I think Cafe Mickey can be a hit or a miss. We haven't eaten there for a few years now and tried Inventions for the first time a few weeks ago.
The DLH is stunning and it feels really special to be in there. The buffet has a good selection of food, we all found something we liked. But, i felt that the character interaction was lacking a bit.
During our meal we saw only a few characters and there were long periods of time without anyone there.
My kids are older now, and we've been to DLP many times so it wasn't a huge deal for us. The cost is also way over the top. My DD who is 16 eats very little and as she is charged as a adult, I can't say she got her money's worth at all. One visit to the buffet table for approx 60E (can't recall exactly) was not value for money.
If our kids were younger, and it was a first visit, i may have been more inclined to go with Cafe Mickey as it's more (or was) a fun location.
What ages are the kids?
You may find Cafe Mickey great. I think the observations come from those who've been many times over the years and noticed a change. For a first main visit, I think you may be ok with Cafe Mickey. You can also get pizza/fries to share which can make it a good value character option too.
