We will be going to DLP next week, for a quick stop on the way south and then 2-3 days on the return, staying in the campervan each way. When we come back its only a few days til DD's 4th birthday so we'd like to do something nice, but we are on a fairly tight budget. Last time we went to Café Mickey you could only have the set 2 or 3 course menu, not just buy a pizza like before - is this still the same? It was really expensive, dd didn't like most of the kids menu, DS has to have an adult meal now, and overall it wasn't great food, though they loved the characters. I seem to remember you used to be able to have afternoon tea in DLH at a relatively reasonable price - can you still do this, and are there characters there if so?

Any other recommendations welcome!

As far as I know its still a set menu at Cafe Mickey

There are no characters at the afternoon tea at DLH as its not a set meal its just ordering from the menu in Cafe Fantasia in there

The other options are Inventions - I think they do lunches on some days as well now but not sure if there are characters there but there are in the evenings and for the Sunday brunches but it is expensive

Auberge - which is mainly Princesses and is expensive as well

You could look into breakfast at Cafe Mickey which would be cheaper and is a buffet with characters - if you do a latish sitting you could have it as a brunch - there are 2 prices one for those staying onsite (where its cheaper as takes into account that breakfast was included already) and for those staying off site

A few years ago we did afternoon 'tea' at the Cafe Fantasia in DLH - our DDs had Mickey Waffles which came with cream/jam etc, and we had Macarons I think?? It's a while ago - I'm fairly sure for the 4 of us with a drink each it was around £50 - if they still do this I'm sure the price will have increased! It was nice as a treat though - although as ASW says, no characters.

I know what you mean about Cafe Mickey - we never go now as we just don't rate the food at all - last time we went our pizzas were burnt on the bottom! Character interaction can be good but many of the characters can be met around the park or at EMH anyway. I hate paying for mediocre food, so I'd rather pay more and get a good meal.

To be honest, I don't think there is anywhere cheap to meet characters and have a birthday meal for littlies these days - it's such a shame they stopped the character meet at the Cookout BBQ place as we did that once and it was a hoot and the good was good, as well as it being very reasonably priced.

Last visit we did lunch at Inventions in the DLH - it's not cheap but imo it's the best value of the lot as the buffet is sooo good, the place is lovely especially if you get a window seat (you could mention it's your DD's birthday and politely ask for one!), and we've never been disappointed with the character interaction. I would push the boat out and do this out of all the options! We go every visit without fail - usually do dinner, but now they have characters at lunch, it's a great option.
