Does anyone know how much the Birthday Cakes are in ''CAFE MICKEY'' ???

I dont know whether to book a ''Character Tea'' and a Birthday Cake....

OR

Lunch at ''CAFE MICKEY'' and a Birthday Cake???

What would you recommend for a little girl just turning 3 yrs old????

many thanks ;)

i would say if you can afford cafe mickey, lucky nugget is 30 euro per adult and the food is great - plus if you linger over your meal your dd will see loads of characters.
mickey or minnie, pluto, goofy, and loads from movies like robin hood, smee etc.
there is loads of interaction and if you book a really early meal it will be very quiet.
i have a picture of smee feeding my youngest son jelly!
and a movie of dd dancing on stage with the characters.
for birthdays all the characters on the floor come over to you to sing.
cafe mickey has steak, pasta etc priced from 20 to 30 euros and a kids menu costing about 11 euro.
plaza gardens is nice but there can be a bit of a scrum for the characters and the cake is not quite as nice.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply, it sounds fab!!!!
Do you know how much the Birthday cake are in the Cafe Mickey???

We did the character tea in Plaza Gardens on Saturday. Those with birthdays were sat near the entrance with those who had just booked the meal further back. But the characters had a CM with them who ensured that they went to every table and if children came up asking for autographs who were not from the table the character was currently at the CM was asking them to sit down and telling them the character would come to them. There seemed to be lots of birthdays so the birthday song was played a lot.

With Annual pass discount it came to 81 euros for 6 adults, 1 child and an infant which I didn't think was bad at all - this was just for buffet and not for meal.

The cake looked to be small, round and with a design sprayed on the front (like those photo cakes you see in the supermarket). All the birthday kids appeared to get a Mickey toy too - not sure if that was included or extra.

Thank you for that info thats really helpful......
Im still deciding what to do  i really cant make my mind up....

Its definately a choice between ''Cafe Mickey'' OR ''Tea with Characters :headache: :headache: :headache:
If i had the money then i would do EVERYTHING!!!! :woohoo:

i think at cafe mickey there is a charge per customer for cake, whereas at plaza gardens it's a charge for the whole cake which you can keep.
i could be wrong.
if you phone the reservation line they will have all those details and if they don't know they ask someone else in the office.
why not save up and do both?
or one this time and one to look forward to another time??
we've found that we love the character meals so much we always save up and go to at least one. it's not much more than the other restaurants - obviously inventions and l'auberge de cendrillon are expensive but they serve lovely food.

i would say whatever you choose, you will love, and you can ensure a great experience by
eating at a relaxed pace so you can meet lots of characters,
making eye contact with characters you have already met to signal you'd like to say hello again (only works when they're quiet),
and being polite to the characters - it sounds obvious but some people are quite rude - rushing up to them with autograph books and stomping off after withou a thank you.
i think it's the excitement!

I can't comment which is best since I haven't done any, but I have booked the character tea and the Lucky Nugget based on reviews trawled from this wonderful forum, and since the children don't even know it's definitely me who is most excited!

This Forum is GREAT :thumbsup2
Everyone is soooo helpful ;)

Does anyone have the number for the Reservation Line???
We booked our holiday with Thomas Cook Direct, but they seemed pretty clueless about information on the extras (such as Disney Character meals)
Thats why i didnt bother to book it with my holiday, but since reading through some threads i have changed my mind :rotfl: :rotfl:

Cant believe the Cafe Mickey charges Birthday cake per person
I thought it would be easier to charge for a Birthday cake alone with a candle etc....
But suppose its there way of making money!

Would be nice if i could bring my own Birthday cake and candle but im sure thats not allowed :confused3

Thanks everyone ! ! !

At Cafe Mickey you buy the cake in additon to your meal, it was an additional 22 euros/cake, not per person. Having eaten a large meal and desserts we didn't actually want the cake afterwards, so our CM boxed it up for us with candles and a new Cake Topper, to take back to the hotel.
The cake is a very rich chocolately fudge affair.

I think you'll find that at Plaza Gardens you pay per head, for a Birthday Tea 18 euros/head adult and children are the same price, from what I remember, from other's trip reports, here you'll have a cake with candles and everyone will sing, the Birthday child receives a present, but you only have a slice of cake not the whole thing.

Have done the Plaza Gardens Tea Party and it was very nice and I'm sure your DS would love it, it's a buffet style tea party here, but for a really good fun atmosphere you can't beat Cafe Mickey IMO. :goodvibes

Reservation number is listed in the Restaurant FAQ. It is worth having a look here at the reviews from others as you decide from all the choices :goodvibes

Im sure when we were there in Summer each birthday group had their own cake and some groups were having them boxed up to take with them whereas other groups had just left what was left on the table

Same here - when we did the Character tea party at the Plaza Gardens the birthday boys and girls at tables around us got a whole birthday cake each and pressie.

Although, seeing the pic of yours Jill, its not such a fancy cake at the Plaza Gardens (though its still chocolate)

I'd check out your DD likes the characters before booking ie book at the resort after you've encountered some characters .We took our DD to Plaza Gardens a month before her 3rd Birthday and she was terrified having the characters so close ,she'd been fine with them at a distance. She's now 5 and we can't keep her away from them :goodvibes . We booked her 4th birthday at ADC (pre -Princess meals) and she had a lovely time.

You can also do the Plaza gardens party without the cake for around £9 per head. That might mean you could do both :thumbsup2

ADC with the Princesses is another option (athough pricey it is just lovely ;) and the little ones also get a free gift). They have the same deal as Cafe Mickey with the cake (22€) and you take home whatever you don't eat.

I would go with Cafe Mickey over the character tea party any day.
The atmosphere in Cafe Mickey is always great and a meal can take up to a couple of hours whereas the character tea party only lasts about 45min.

Budget allowing I would always choose Cafe Mickey much better value for money.
