we are going to disney in april 2006 and seriously considering staying at the cabin's at Ft. Wilderness. it will be me, dh and DD (4 years) and DS (1.5 years) we have been to disney many times before, but this is the first time we have even thought about the cabin's. they look really nice online, but neither of us know anyone who has stayed there.

for those that have stayed, what are the pros and cons? did you like the resort?

TIA

We stayed in a cabin when our sons where 1 and 4, and thought it was great!

We loved having a seperate bedroom for the younger one's naps, and when the kids where asleep, having the living room for hubby and I was great. It had a full kitchen also, and a bar-b-q on the deck!

The cabins are so nice and quiet, which was important for us, as our kids go to bed early.

Taking the boat to magic kingdom was really fun too.

We used our car for the other resorts, so I can't comment on the buses too much.

We found the resort to be very family friendly, with a great beach and playground, petting zoo and a nightly campfire sing along with chip and dale!

THey also show movies after the campfire.

I would highly recomment it!

I would also highly recommend the cabins, but only if you have a car and are able to rent a golf cart to get around Fort Wilderness (the golf cart was also so much fun!) We were there in 2003 with my two daughters (then 3 and 5) and my in-laws, who slept on the murphy bed in the living room. It was really nice to have a separate room to hang out in after the kids went to bed, and to be able to cook a meal (especially breakfast!)

We just stayed at the AKL, and my oldest daughter is not sure which one she likes better!

I agree with Wee Annie about the car and the golf cart. We used the golf cart a lot and the kids thought it was a ride in itself. I'm not sure I would be too excited about taking the FW bus to the boat launch or the WDW bus stop.

We stayed at the cabins when my boys were about the same age as your children and it worked really well for us. It was really nice to have 2 rooms. The cabins and campground were very quiet and soothing after a busy day at the parks. And it was great to have a kitchen. I don't know about your kids, but at that age, my kids were somewhat picky eaters. It worked really well to have some of their familar favorites back at the cabin. The cabins were much nicer inside than I expected, however be forewarned that the bedroom is very small and gets even more crowded with a pack and play. One person can walk around at time and others better be in bed or in the other room!

The cabins are a great price for the space if you need it. We enjoyed them when we had people (work) rooming together. It was a lot of space for the same price as our convention hotel. Because of the two rooms we didn't feel like we 'shared' the space much.

Loved having a full size fridge, a deck attached and the conveniences. I DO wish there was a television in the bedroom though. If you happen to be driving down, I'd bring a small TV/DVD or something.

I didn't enjoy the bus system much. I did find morning walks on the grounds the best on property (morning is my ME time on any vacation).

If I was spending a day at the resort, I'd get a golf cart. We didn't have a full day so we never did it. It looked like fun though!

I DO wish they'd open River Country as the themed pool area for guests or have something more than standard pools.

Having one bathroom can be a drag if you have a lot of adults in the cabin, otherwise it's fine.

For your little ones, try and pick a cabin close to a play area. We didn't stay close to the road the bus travels on, so I can't comment on the noisier cabins, if there are any.
