What are your thoughts on the cabins? We are planning a trip for October and my parents are considering going so we thought this would be a fun way to be together. I haven't seen many postings about this resort. The website says it's large and to consider renting a golf cart. Does anyone know what the rate is for this?

The resort is huge. We didn't rent a golf cart, but many people do. We just used the wilderness buses. My family went with my sister and brother-in-law. There is one bedroom with a double bed and bunk beds. The other bed is in the living room and is a pull-down Murphy bed. It is also a double bed. The cabins are pretty nice especially for the price. We really enjoyed it. We also loved the boat to MK. Hardly ever had any lines going either way. That was a very nice deal. The buses seem inconvenient to some, but I think it sure beats the walking you have to do at some of the other resorts. We stayed at POR and the walk back to our room was pretty long. When exhausted, I would rather wait for a bus. We never waited more than 5 minutes.

Just wanted to add that we would definitely stay in the cabins if we were a group of 6 again. I just can't see spending the extra money for just the 4 of us. The kitchen was a great way to save money on meals too.

All great points :thumbsup2

What we really liked is the QUIET!! You have no one around you - no one over or under or around. No one running up and down halls, chatting as they walk past your room, flushing, showering, nothing!! It's a great place to stay and we highly recommend it.

We were just there a few weeks ago - me, hubby, son (1yr), and my parents. Worked out great! We had the bedroom with our son and my parents took the bed in the living room. We did not rent a cart and never waited more than 5min for a bus. DH didn't like the whole transferring buses thing (internal the another one for the park) but it didn't bother me much and wouldn't at all had we not had a stroller and such to collapse each time. It was really nice to watch the MK fireworks from the beach and they pipe in the music!

We will most likely stay somewhere else next time but it worked out great for our situation and the price (ended up getting a free dining PIN) an it was nice to have our own area and quiet at night!

THe cabins at Fort Wilderness are awesome. Nice and quiet. Do rent a golf cart because the resort is HUGE. Have fun and enjoy

Fort Wilderness is my favorite resort! I would suggest you check out the camping forum on the disboards. There are a lot of really nice people over there who will have specific answers to your questions - especially the golf carts. :)

We loved it. I would think for a bigger group I would want two regular rooms just for the extra bathroom tho!

It was just the 3 of us, but we all sleep better when not in the same room. The extra space was great. I do believe however that our little one was so exhausted that we may have been OK in a regular room. The fridge was great. Breakfast was the only meal we cooked. They need a non-stick skillet in the rooms tho. Everything is stainless steal, it was hard to keep our eggs from sticking. It was great to make breakfast while getting ready. Kept Lunchables in the fridge for our daughter. Had a frozen pizza in case as well that never got used.

While they are practical, for my family they aren't a great choice.

We had friends staying there while we were at WL and we went to visit. The cabins are really nice and a kitchen is good, but...

... the extra travel and bus hopping to get around would take away from my vacation. My friends felt that way also, after seeing how easily we got around the "world" from WL!

Yes you have your own parking spot right in front of the cabin! Very convenient (just can't drive your vehicle around the campground to get places - other than to leave and come back)

We didn't rent a golf cart so I don't remember exactly but I think it was about $65/day?

As you can tell with my ticker and past trips we love the Cabins! Like one previous poster said love the quiet even though it is so large. 2100 loop my favvorite because if there is one drawback it's 1 bathroom. 2100 loop right next to a comfort station so I could go shower there.(I live with 3 girls/women) Go for it you will not regret:cool1: Actually Jealous !!

Loved the cabins. We were there 2 years ago with a party of 5. Like others stated the only drawback was that it had one bathroom - 4 of the 5 were females! But we made it work ... we do not use the dining plan and cook most of our meals. So having a kitchen was a must for us. We did rent a golf cart - we used an off site company (Kenny at Tee Time). This is a much cheaper option than renting from Disney. This eliminated the need to take the internal bus - we just drove the cart to the dock or the buses for the park buses. Check out the Camping forum ... has lots of great information on the Cabins and Fort Wilderness.

If you go over to the Camping Board there is a ton of good info about the cabins and campground.

I've stayed in the cabins a few time, as a solo, and loved it! I loved having my own parking space instead of circling the lot at the end of the day, and I loved feeling like I was coming home to a neighborhood at night instead of a hotel. I have never rented a golf cart, and did not have any issues with the bus service at all. There are two internal bus routes that service the cabins, so I never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus. I walked from the 2400 loop to the main Meadow pool complex in less than 15 minutes (at a normal walking pace, not hurrying at all).

I agree that if you think one bathroom may present an issue, request the 2100 loop so you have a comfort station near by.

We were there in November with a big group of people. We had 4 cabins, and Disney was very good about getting them all right next to each other. We had 3 golf carts between all of us, and I thought they were really useful. Of course, we had three 4-year olds with us, so having the golf cart was very helpful to just hop on the cart and drive back to the cabin instead of waiting for a bus at the end of a long day.

x3 on the golf carts!!!

if it fits in your budget, i strongly suggest a golf cart. extremely convenient for getting around FW.

I'll mention a tip I figured out on our second cabin trip.

There's a sink in the kitchen!!!!!

Instead of everyone trying to cram into the bathroom brushing teeth, washing up, etc. you can also use the kitchen sink to do that too. Just grab some soap and washcloths, towels, etc. from the bathroom.

It helped when we finished breakfast and just needed to do that quick teeth, face thing before we left in the morning.

I read on TripAdvisor about a Dad who arranged a cart rental from an offsite company for a much cheaper weekly fee..does anyone know about these? If you stay on Disney property is parking free for parks? Not sure I like all the bus transfers either!
