I will be sailing on a 7 night cruise in Nov with 2 adults and a 14 and 9 year old. (by the way what is a DD, DS, etc. I am a newbie to this) We are trying to decide if we should book a cabin with a window (deck 2) for the 4 of us or 2 inside cat 11 cabins (deck 6) next to each other. Is it really MUCH BETTER to have the window and all 4 in 1 cabin or forget the window and have 2 of us in each cabin. If anyone has stayed in both a window and non-window cabin, or have had 4 in a cabin, I would really appreciate your thoughts.

I would go with the window. On our first Disney cruise we(3 of us, sorry not 4) had a room with a window on deck 6 and loved it, it was nice to be able to look outside and to some light in the room without having to turn the lights on. Last year when we did a cruise on Carnival we had an inside room(again for 3 of us, not 4 , me and 2 boys both times) and I hated it. You had to have the lights on all the time and it was very easy to oversleep, which I did one morning when I had a spa appointment. I had already had our May Disney cruise booked when we did the Carnival cruise, a cat 11 on deck 7. So after we got back from the Carnival cruise I went ahead and switched our inside room to a room with a veranda. I just felt that I couldn't do another 7 night cruise without at least a window. Good luck in deciding what to get. You will probably get all kinds of opinions on this.

It all depends on how much time you plan on spending in your room. The only time I spent in the room was to sleep and a nap for my 3yr old dd. Other than that, I was out and about. So a for me a cat 11 was ok. Our next 2 cruises we are in a cat 10 which will be with a split bathroom. I still prefer an inside cabin to give my daughter a nap. With all the excitment, it is hard enough to give her a nap without sunlight. She's usually asleep with the darkness in about 5 minutes.:jester:

With the 2 scenarios you mentioned, you have to decide whether privacy with your spouse or looking out a window is more important. Two category 11 rooms will be much more expensive than one category 9 room. Compare the price of 2 category 11 rooms with one category 6 room. You'd get a little more spacey feeling because of the verandah. You can't get connected cabins in category 11, so your 14 and 9 year old would essentially be "on their own." That is something you have to decide if they are ready for. Four will fit in a category 11, so that is an option also....it isn't much smaller than a category 9 room.

We got connecting staterooms because we did want the extra space and privacy, but we have 3 children so the options were a lot more limited than with a family of 4.

For us, it's worth the cost of having the verandah. We like having the time alone and quiet there plus it's nice to look outside and see the water from the sliding doors.

We had URI's this December and chose to stay in the cabin during the worst of it. Having the verandah made all the difference when we had dinner (room service) there and watched the sunset.

i agree with Rae, I could probabaly cruise twice a year without a veranda but would rather go once a year and have one. When i had my ear infection I took a pillow and blanket and pushed the chairs together on the veranda and took a peaceful nap. It was wonderful when you feel ill but still are able to enjoy cruising. On deck it was too crazy I just listened to the waves and fell asleep.
