Cabin Organization Tips?

I also pack a shoe holder that hangs in the closet with pockets on each side. This works great to keep my shoes, DD's & DS's straight. DH takes a couple and keeps them on the floor of the closet. I also use a hamper under the desk and pack up the dirty clothes after 3 days in a trashbag in one of the suitcases then slide it back under the bed. Helps to have the packing in process instead of waiting until the last night.

I'm not sure why you would let the in-laws talk you into just one cabin. Why couldn't they have just been in the next room so that you could have connecting cabins for your family??? And, if you are in verandahs, you can open between if you are on the Dream or Fantasy.

As far as organization, we use the over the door shoe organizer on EVERY trip we take, it is now a staple for us. I don't pack it full, I just smash it down and pack it. I use space bags to pack our clothes in, each person gets 2 HALVES of a bag...I combine our clothes in case a suitcase gets lost. I use the space bags that you just seal and roll (or lay on) to squeeze out the air.
We have found that on the Magic, storing suitcases is a bit of a problem, but the Dream and Fantasy both have higher beds, allowing our suitcases to fit nicely. Also, I take full advantage of any storage in the room. Our dds each get assigned 3 drawers and 3 pockets in the shoe organizer. I hang up any clothes I can in the closet.
We are to the point where we typically have connecting staterooms for the 4 of us, our dds (9 & 12) are not the easiest to share space with! lol
So, I let them organize their own room, with a little guidance. They do pretty well.
Good luck!

We were just on the Fantasy and we hung as much as we could. There are shelves im the closet we put our shoes in there. We split up the drawers and at one end of the dresser there were shelves my husband used for his tshirts since all his shorts got hung up. We each get a shelf in the bathroom and that's plenty for us, the extra not always needed stuff goes under the sink.

We keep 2 suitcases close to the end for easy access 1 we put stuff we buy or want to keep like navigator in there to try and keep the place clean. The other dirty clothes but I agree every other night I fold the clothes up while everyone is getting settled into bed makes it easier at the end of the week for packing

Packing cubes! They really helped to keep everything organized and neat in the suitcases and made unpacking really simple. Just take them out of the suitcase, fold the top under and place in a drawer or closet. I got a 3 piece set for all of us and a set of the slim cubes and it fit all of our clothes for 3 people.

Sorry to crash in on this thread but these look great! Do you think ebags are better than the other cheaper brands around? Thanks

I can only speak about Ebags and Travelon. Both are good quality, but I would recommend Ebags over Travelon for the following reasons:

1) Lots of colors - you can pick a different color for each family member and/or type of clothing. i.e.-we have raspberry for me & navy for DH, I use orange for swimwear & green for sleepwear. They also have coordinating shoe bags!

2) Lots of sizes - different sizes allow you some flexibility

3) They are soft sided - Ebags' collapse, Travelon are more rigid, so they take up more space in storage and are slightly less flexible when packing

4) Ebags is always having a sale. You can add to your bags at reduced prices.

We chose our colors to coordinate with some Eagle Creek Pack-It folders that we found. This way we can use our travel organizers for both business and leisure. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much. Actually that was very helpful because colour coordinating is important to me. Its just me and DW but we usually do a cruise and WDW (DVC ) so we could have a colour each, plus we could separate our cruise/wdw items. I am disabled so although I get out all the items to take DW packs it all and it drives me mad I can never find anything at the other end! This way easy! Love it! I will see if they sell Ebags in the UK ( we live here ) if not will get some on our next trip!

I've used Eagle Creek pack it cubes and folders for over 15 years, and have been very pleased. Cubes. Folders.

I've bought Eagle Creek products at sporting good stores, travel stores, and recreational stores. REI (this REI page also has packing videos).

you can purchase great closet organizers that fold up small from USAirways Inflight magazine. They're similar to shoe organizers but larger and fold up thin.

Thanks! Will check that out!

I just skimmed through this thread - so sorry if this was already posted . . .

We bring magnet hooks that we have on the inside of our stateroom door. Each person has their own hook and each time they come in the room they hang their lanyard/dry box/sunglasses onto their hook so that when they head out again - everything is right there ready to grab and go! :cool1:

When we checked in for our last cruise we asked for a blank "key card" - we kept this in the top drawer by the closet (along with a bag of small bills for roomservice) - we used the blank card to control the lights/tv so that no one had to head out and forget their key was in the light switch. (any card will actually work - we just liked having the blank one)

Just a question please re the over the door show organizer ( love this idea ) do the attachments for over the door fit on the door to the room or only on the doors internally? Also we have an accessible room as I am disabled so wondering if its suitable for a sliding door ( accessible rooms have sliding bathroom doors mostly in resorts )

Hi Paula, not sure if I can answer your question entirely, but maybe I can share enough info and ideas, and others can chime in and fill in the blanks.

My over-the-door shoe organizer hangs by hooks. Like these: first pic (this is the kind I have) & second pic and the shower organizer hangs by a rod with hook ends.

You have to put the hooks in to hang it, so instead of using the over-the-door hooks that are supplied, you might be able to use these suction hooks or these 3M Command hooks with these strips. We use the suction hooks in the shower with the shower organizer.

I don't know if these ideas would work with the surface of the doors you speak of, or the way the doors travel. If the surface is too rough, suction definitely won't work. If the doors are pocket doors (which I doubt they are, but I am unfamiliar with them), then a door organizer of any kind won't work.

If the hooks will work, you could hang the shoe organizer as high as you can reach and cut the excess off of the bottom.

Hopefully this post makes sense (it's early :goodvibes).

Hi

How incredibly helpful you are thank you so much for taking the time to post that. I had not considered replacing the over the door hooks what a good idea! I could play around with the ideas at home to see which one would work best. I would not be able to reach the top pockets because of my disability but DW can have those! I just thought like the OP have posted re thier younger children same could apply to me. I will just use the lower pockets! Thank you! We typically stay at SSR for 2 weeks as we come from the UK and try to maximise the flight cost and time usually taking in a 3/4 day cruise so lots of luggage and organisation needed!

Yes me too! I love the packing cubes idea. Got to get me some of those. I do a vacation brochure each year (sad) with accomodation, flight , car etc ref numbers, pictures of resort and things to do. A day by day list of adrs and activities.. Useful numbers etc.

Takes me ages but its part of the vacation for me. When its complete ( I do it as a booklet in publisher ) my partner prints it off at work and binds it for us. Lol people think it is a professional production it gets more complex each year....last year I added an index what ever next lol...

I love it! Makes my elaborate spreadsheets with ADRs, EMH and Recommended Parks, look completely amateurish!

I think the newest comic book superhero should be "Captain OCD" ( "Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder". Don't know if you call it the same in the UK). Now that is a superhero I can relate to!! :lmao:
