Cabin locations to avoid on the Magic?

We are trying to decide whether to take a gaurantee rate or just book a specific cabin on the magic.

We just had a family balcony cabin on deck 9 of the Dream, midship but towards the after and the area across the hall had the most annoying mechanical sound coming from it. we had a cabin about 10 rooms closer to midship on the fantasy and it was silent,

what areas to avoidon the magic for noise and vibrations?

If GT is a lot cheaper, personally I would roll the dice and book GT. The Magic doesn't have the Fantasy's severe vibration problems so you should be okay anywhere if you're flexible. Keep in mind though, that GT always carries the risk of getting a handicap stateroom with no bathtub & a shower with no lip that will get the bathroom floor all wet every time you shower.

If I were choosing a stateroom on the Magic, I would avoid aft, because aft on every ship has some vibrations. I would also avoid deck 6, because each time I've sailed that deck on the Magic I've had minor odor issues in the bathroom and/or stateroom itself. Nothing to freak out about as it was mild & only occasional in the stateroom (constant in the bathroom with toilet), but I'd rather avoid it if I could.

Same on all ships really. You feel the most vibrations aft because that is where the engines are. Though you will occasionally feel them forward when docking or pulling away as they use the forward thrusters (nit sure if that us what they are called) to position the ship.

Other thing to watch for is are there rooms on either side of it or is there “blank space” on the deck plan. That space could be where some kind of equipment or a service elevator is and that could create noise. For the quietest rooms, also try to book a room with staterooms above and below (deck 7 on classic ships is popular for that reason)

I would avoid any of the cabins very near one of the laundry rooms. We were in 6578 on our first Magic cruise (that’s a 5B, midship veranda on starboard). The laundry room on deck 6 is across from 6588, so about 5 rooms further along the corridor. We heard a lot of noise and noticed the corridor was much warmer in the area near the laundry (this was a Med cruise out of Barcelona, so warmer weather conditions outside). Since then, we make it a point to book closer to the midship elevators, avoiding the laundry area.

We've had rooms (deck 2) on the Magic forward, mid-ship and aft. The only noise "issues" we had (and I'm calling them issues only because they were noticeable, but not particularly annoying):
Forward - we were near enough to hear the anchor chain, so some noise when coming into port and leaving. Although leaving we were often not in our room.
Aft - over the aft thruster, docking in port they're pretty noisy, but doesn't last long. Also, in the aft room, we were underneath the passageway portside outside Lumiere’s and could sometimes hear running foot steps above, due to no carpeting on that passageway.

I would go for midship, any stateroom sandwiched between staterooms above and below and away from the elevator/stairs, laundry rooms or any smoking area. We stayed in deck 8 on the Magic and it was so loud with the pool deck above us. We also stayed deck 6, aft and don't recall the noise issues others are stating, however, we did have a water leak in that room which was promptly fixed.

We just had 6530 which was literally across from the elevators. We thought there would be wall gap but there wasn't. The first day while everyone was getting luggage and into their rooms, it was very noisy and the last night very noisy with disembarkation prep.. but once everyone was settled and in rooms we heard nothing. So if you're considering a room across from the elevators, it was very convenient!

Well, I'd go for the GTY rate because Disney will feel free to move you anyway, even if you do pick your cabin. For our upcoming trip, we got moved from our cabin on a low deck between the mid/fore elevators to one that is on a higher deck but more fore than the fore elevators. Really not at all what we wanted, but Disney considers it an "upgrade" for some reason, and they evidently aren't using the staterooms in the area we had originally selected, so we'll have to go with it.

You can look at the maps of what's available for the cruise you are looking at, and if none of the rooms available for choosing are ones you really object to, that probably means you won't get stuck in a bad one, so save some money and go for the VGT/OGT/IGT rate. I'd certainly have done that if I'd known I had the option (the VGT rates that came up were more than $1000 below what we paid for our Oceanview).
