This summer has been nuts in the DFW metroplex! We are at our whits end and I so can't wait for the cooler months to get here.

Does anybody know of any free or inexpensive ideas to stay cool? We have walked the malls, cabella's, and bass pro shops so many times I really don't want to go back! Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated!

This is sad to say but 2 weeks ago I was in the Dominican Republic, at night it got down to 75 degrees and I felt like I needed a sweatshirt on...

I hear ya! We live north of Fort Worth close to Cabellas. The kids are back in school, but this summer we beat the heat by:
- Science Museum twice
- Legoland twice
- weekly kids matinee pass ($5 per person to see 10 movies at set day/time)
- bowling twice
- roller skating twice
- local pool membership that has water slides
- 3 night stay at Great Wolf.
Otherwise, we just suffered in the heat and stayed indoors.

I can't believe the forecast is still triple digits for at least the next 10 days. We were teased by the thunder and lightening this morning - not a drop of rain here!

Visiting the local library. We have several community theater groups that put on plays which is a good way to excape the heat. How about artist for a day places- AKA a place paint pottery.

When my kids were younger, I bought a member ship to The Science Place in Fair Park. We went there every week. My kids thought the whole museum was one wonderful indoor playground. Yes, the membership costs some money, but parking there is free, or you can take the train.

Oh, hey -- the train! For younger kids, simply being on the train can be an adventure, and a one day pass is very reasonable. You could plan some free/inexpensive things to do along the route.

Definitely check out the libraries - any and all libraries within your area.

Good luck! It's not been the worst summer ever, but well, I guess it's nearly second-worst. ;)
