This is day three of being trapped in my house by the snow and ice. :hyper: I did get out for a short while yesterday to go to the gym and grocery store, but had to get back home before the roads iced up.

I don't know how people up north handle this. I'm thinking it's time to move further south.....maybe somewhere around Lake Buena Vista, FL :thumbsup2

Meh. We probably handle it the same way you guys handle 90 degree humid heat in the summer - stay inside, find other ways to entertain ourselves, get used to it.

It'll blow over soon. Hang in there!

I hear you Carly, but, as long as I have to deal with the heat and humidity in the summer, shouldn't I be exempt from being trapped inside by snow and ice in the winter. :confused3 I think I'm getting the worst of both worlds here!

It wouldn't be so bad, say, once a year. Oh last year was the worst. I was snowed in enough to last me a lifetime. It started December 9 and the snow never left till sometime in March, just piled up more. (We weren't snowed in that whole time, just periodically!) Our road was never cleared more than a pathway. One time it was so narrow and high, the mirrors on my van folded in. So, as soon as the wind blew, it filled in again. One night I had to park on the road just because the wind blew. DH spent 5 hours in an open tractor just clearing enough to get the vehicles home.

I occupied myself by planning vacations online! But then there was the 5 days without electricity...

We are having a much better record this winter. One Saturday was bad blowing snow, this week school was cancelled yesterday, but DH cleared snow and took me to work. We have invested in a big, cab tractor and he can plow all the way to the highway.

I hear ya!

That's why my husband wants to retire in FL. They may get cold but they never get iced in!

I'm losing it slightly. The kids are being pretty good considering. We finally got mail today! Dh went back to work today. I needed that more than anything. I love him but being snowed in is no longer fun after the 4th day. Coming off the weekend it was just too long cooped up together.

I hear ya!

My DH is trapped in a hotel in Alpharetta. The bar ran out of beer the day before yesterday. It ain't pretty.

So far the hotel restaurant is rationing. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner have become yes/no questions. DH said someone made a death-defying pizza run last night, so things must be looking up.

After three snow days, I'm ready to go back to work! My daughter is bored too. A little winter weather always serves to remind me why I don't really want to move much further north.

We get heat and humidity in the summer too-we aren't exempt :lmao:.

Why are you cooped up? Go out side, make a snowman, have a snowball fight, go sledding, put some water and food coloring in a spray bottle and paint your yard, go to a movie, rent a movie. I couldn't imagine staying inside for 3 days even in the worst weather. :confused3

I heard on the radio this morning the entire city of Atlanta has only 9 snowplows for the entire city. Massport owns 50 snowplows for Logan Airport alone! The last time I can recall being snowed in for days was the Blizzard of 78. We get bigger storms than you do (and lots of them) but we have the equipment to clear the snow away and sand the streets to melt the ice. Plus, we have more opportunity to learn how to drive in this weather. I came to work today with 8-10 inches of snow on the ground and things were just getting going. I have no idea how much is out there now. I am accustomed to driving in the snow, though, and I have a 4 wheel drive vehicle so it doesn't even phase me. Like Golfgal said, go out and have fun and go sledding in it!

If we got snow I would have taken the kids out. We got ice and all ice. Then it melted into wet slush then refroze. There is really nothing to play in. I let them out to burn off energy but there was no driving in this mess so we could go take a walk and chance falling or go outside in the yard but leaving was no an option where I am.

In some parts of GA there was enough snow to enjoy this baloney but we got all ice. I'm from New England so bad weather is fine but it's different when it's an ice storm without equipment and a snowstorm that you can drive in after they plow. My family back home just does not believe how it shuts us down. No banks, no mail, no courts, nothing was open. It's baffeling unless you are in it.

My DD17 has been out in it off and on, but the rest of us are staying indoors. The problem is, the snow has about a 1/2" crust of ice on top, then snow, then another 1/2" to 1" layer of ice on the bottom. DD went running through the snow/ice and it actually cut her ankle and caused tremendous bruising and swelling. It looks like it's sprained, but it's all soft tissue injury. Another time she fell backward into the snow and the snow-hole cut her upper arm. She has an enormous bruise, with swelling, from the icy snow! To build their snowman, they had to chop through the top layer of ice and scoop out the snow. Yesterday a kid went sledding down the hill in his neighborhood, hit the ice and went careening into and under a car. He is hospitalized with severe head injuries. This is not good, soft snow like ya'll get. This stuff is an icy mess.

OP, I know just how you feel. I am not genetically equipped to handle this much ice and snow. I love our usual brand of winter--4 days of cold, a day of snow, get out of school and run around, snow melts, we all go back to normal, and the temps return to the upper 60s & 70s for another couple of weeks. Rinse, repeat, until the pollen blooms and all the cars turn yellow.

I was so excited when I saw the UPS truck drive by a few minutes ago, I actually exclaimed 'oh goody'. Still no mail but at least things are moving. Nothing's been open for the last 3 days, no mall, no movie theaters, no stores and even the grocery stores were on very limited hours but all the good stuff was gone. :rolleyes1 DH and I both grew up in the North, this is not fun snow. This is ice, ice, ice and lots of people who don't know how to drive/get around. I told him that this definitely confirms yet again why no matter how many times my parents ask, I am not moving to North Dakota. :scared1:

I grew up in the North, it's a completely different ballgame than here. There is so limited accessibility, I hate snow here, LOVED it up north.

I'm over this ice. It's not PRETTY, fun or something to sled on. ugh...:surfweb:

True about the 90 degree weather, but at least you can get out, into your air conditioned car and go somewhere else. YOu aren't trapped inside your house, well unless a hurricane comes along. Then I get cabin fever.

This is exactly the problem. I look outside now at the lawns and the snow has a hard crust sheen to it and the streets are shiny (ice). We're out of school again tomorrow. The streets just aren't getting clear enough to navigate the busses safely.

The way it's looking, we probably won't have school all week. Forsyth County has already closed on Friday. The kids are even getting tired of playing in the snow. I'm guessing it will be another week before it melts in the yards. I'm hoping the roads clear up by Saturday! Anyone know what GA20 in Cumming is like?

Friday it should get into the 40's. No mail here in Atlanta or fedex, or ups.
I am glad we have streaming netflix!

I can't imagine being cooped up for days at a time because of the snow. Here in Massachusetts, we get a huge storm and everything is pretty much back to normal the next day.

Yesterday we got around two feet of snow. Roads were plowed by evening. Kids do have school today, but it is a two hour delay so they go in later by two hours but it counts as a full day.

I can imagine what a nightmare it must be to get things back to normal without any snow equipment....plows, salt, etc..

What would have been bump in the road up north is a major problem down south.

But hang in there everyone! We are one more day closer to spring!

I live on GA20 (between 400 and Gwinnett County). It's OK. It looks like they ran a plow down it early yesterday, so it's actually had a chance to dry out in most places. Just BE CAREFUL. The icy spots can jump up out of nowhere and get you.
