Cabanas at the GF pool?

Ohhh- now I'm really upset ( not really- but you know) - Seriously it was like they forgot to restock the frig or the pool attendants just really didn't want to work that day:thumbsup2
I had seen your pictures before we went, which was a reason we booked one in the first place. I thought I remembered that they had Internet Access out there- again pool attendant had no clue.

I'm very hopeful that my experience was in the minority and strike it up to off season bored workers. Because other than that- we did enjoy ourselves. And if you are going during the hot season, where the pool will be crowded and shade a good thing- then I would definately book one. You will be the envy of everyone at that pool!

wow! that is an awesome perk. how nice!

My overall experience with the GF was just like your pool experience. Bored workers who didn't really seem to care at all about the guests..... :confused3 (Check in staff at the All Stars on the same trip had a great attitude. Girl at the GF was flat out RUDE! What was I paying that rate for? )

OK, I feel like a thread killer here.

I tried to book a cabana back in Sept. 2006 - we checked in on Sept. 30th I think. Well, they had discontinued the cabana rental. My DU agent called for me almost every day b/c they weren't accepting ressies for past 9/30/06. Finally she was told that the service was discontinued. I don't know if it has been reinstated, but I wasn't able to enjoy the lovely cabana experience.

Again, I am sorry if I am bursting anyone's plans!

Scanne, when we were there in December the cabana was all set up like this as a rental. :confused3 Not sure what happened?

As far as the internet service.....There is NO internet access. My DH wound up using his computer's cell phone modem and just had to dial up. It was a bummer. SO, just so you know - NO INTERNET ACCESS at the pool. There was a misunderstanding about this, and the GF CMs were really scattering and trying to help, but there is none available. I think there is in the lobby of the GF, but it would not reach out to the pool area.

Lives4Disney :)

Thank you for clearing up the internet access question. It was very confusing in Sept.

Maybe they discontinued the Cabana Rentals for Oct and then brought them back for the busy season? When we were there middle of Sept. 06- hardly anyone was even at the pool and the cabana sat empty a lot. I can see it being in high demand during CHristmas and Spring Break season, I know I would book again if we were there during that time. It can't hurt to call and check:goodvibes

My sister will be at the GF in July, and this would be right up her alley. Can anyone give me the contact info or a link I can send her?

We rented a cabana when we stayed recently at GF. We, too, encountered bored employees who made no real effort. We did have drinks in the fridge and the fruit bowl, but overall I'm not sure we enjoyed it enough to bother again.

We rented a pool cabana at the GF on two vacations (June 2006 and April 2007) and loved it. Renting them was relatively new when we did it in June 2006 and the staff really had no idea what they were doing when we arrived...lots of running around until we finally found out that the only one who really knew anything about them was the lifeguard (who had more important things to be doing...obviously). But the fridge was stocked, we got a nice fruit basket and the price was well worth it to us in spite of it all. Last year our experience was much better...they had someone assigned to the cabanas and he seemed quite eager to help with any questions/needs we had.

Most days they seemed to sit empty so I don't think a lot of people know about booking them. You can reserve them by calling 407-WDW-PLAY ninety days in advance, which I'll be doing next month...we're going again in July and will defintely be renting a cabana for a few days. To us it's well worth the money to have a reserved spot at the pool and some shade when we need a break or to eat our lunch. last year we paid $60 for 4 hours (10am - 2pm & 2pm - 6pm) or $110 for 8 hours.

I won't stay at the GF again. We booked a Wishes Cruise on the Grand 1 and put an order in with private dining for beer/soft drinks/chips and dips at 9am on the day of the cruise. It was supposed to be on the boat for an 8.30pm departure. At 8.40 we were still calling to find out were it was ( all the pontoons had their orders loaded ready) and only got it 5 mins before Wishes. The excuse of 'sorry we had a last minute rush on' really pissed me off. The next day we had reserved a Cabana as a surprise for my daughters birthday for the afternoon sesion. It was booked 4 months in advance and I had given CC/ressie info etc. We turned up to find it had been double booked and there was no altenative they could offer. It was left to one of the lifeguards to sort it out with managment who after a while offered to pay for the birthday cake we had reserved that night at Citrico's as an apology. The guys at Citrico's were wonderful - they put us in Chef's Domain and really made a fuss of DD. We checked out the following day and reported our disappointment with the Cabana and private dining to RPC staff, who had done nothing at all for my DD's birthday (I'm not after freebies but at all other Concierges they at least send a card). All they could say was 'you should have let us help with the private dining' , 'If you have staff who need help taking drinks out of a fridge and pouring chips into a bowl it's no wonder service sucks' was my reply :)

If the rest of the staff put half as much effort into guest satisfaction as those at Citrico's do it would be OK - we still eat there a couple of times every trip and it's fantastic, but I won't stay there again until the RPC staff pull their heads out of their backsides.
