I know, I know, there are probably 30 threads somewhere on here that talk about cabanas at HRH. I've spent the past 45 minutes searching and can't get what I need.

I reserved cabana #7 for Friday, May 2 for :scared1: :scared1: $200 :scared1: :scared1: dh is gonna (is there a smilie with choking another smilie) . . .well, he's gonna . . . probably do nothing because I already told the kids so they will bombard him as soon as he walks in the door from working EXTRA today, his day off, for vacation funds  So since he  me soooo much, maybe he will only shake his head is absolute wonder at my inability to STOP SPENDING MONEY FOR THIS VACATION!!! Ok. . . I did have a deluxe room reserved and changed it cuz he wanted me to. . . isn't that compromise enough already???

Back to the cabanas. . . I want to make sure we got a good one :thumbsup2. I think this is the yellow submarine themed and, from what I can remember from reading all the OTHER cabana threads, this is in a good location. I verified there would definitely be a dive in movie this night (weather permitting of course) which is why I chose Friday rather than Saturday.

Please share your cabana pics, stories, info or thread links with me :worship: I'll need them to show dh how much fun we will have while paying an additional $200 on top of what we have spent for the park tickets and the room itself. . . oh yeah, any poolside food pics or stories will be good too. . . leave off the cabana boys though, would ya :rolleyes1

Sorry for this boring, repetitive topic :guilty:

We love cabana #7.

It is indeed the Yellow Submarine cabana. It sits right behind the baby pool, so you are a bit out of the way. The times we have rented it, hardly anybody used the baby pool, so it wasn't very busy right out front.

Perfect view of the movie screen for the Dive-In Movie.

It is also very close to the gate out to Universal, so if you feel like a hop on Mummy, you are close by.

Only 4 cabanas away from the slide, so that was nice too.

Cons:
It has some shade right next to it, so we had a few people wanting to take our reserved lounge chairs.

Since it is set back behind the baby pool, you cannot see the slide if you want to watch little ones.

My kids love cabana day when we are on vacation. It is always one of their favorite parts. It is a nice refreshing break from going into the parks all the time.

Since I posted, I have changed my mind and decided on #10. . . pro's and con's I know. . . but since 10 is near the slide and our kids are older, we wanted to be able to watch them on the slide. It looks like it will be quite a bit busier, but that's ok too, I guess. DH is home, but I'm waiting to tell him until I have some pics to show, and some "couldn't live without cabana day" stories to tell him.

Anyone got #10 reports. . pros and cons??

I think I'm gonna ask gramma to finance cabana day for her little darlings. . . if that doesn't work, I'll ask gramps. . . I am his only daughter and my dd's are his only granddaughters;) Guess dh can't be upset then. . . yes, yes, I'm aware how manipulative that is.

So now all the homies will know where we are that day!

Maybe We will HAVE to come visit . This is Friday right. WE are there from 4/30 till 5/4 . We are there for my DD Sweet 16 so we are gonna be looking for a break . My friend and I will most likely be by the pool as the girls go off to the park. ;) . Thank goodness they are 16 and are old enough for that . :woohoo:

You can't go wrong with 7,8,9 or 10.

10 is the Stevie Wonder themed cabana (I think - or was it 9?) We haven't rented it, but if I remember correctly when we passed it by, it had some great aiderondack chairs in it - unlike just the regular lounge chairs in 7 & 8. I remember being a bit bummed that the cabana has such great chairs. I was kicking myself a bit for changing from 10 to 7 & 8.

It is definitely the closest one to the slide. Just hop out of your cabana and you are almost at the stairs. Don't recall if it is the best angle for the movie, but you should be able to see it ok.

Have fun!!! We love cabana day when we go!

From the research I was able to do, plus the questions I asked when I called to reserve, #10 is the Stevie Wonder cabana. I did see a pic of it and it has those adeirondack chairs you were talking about. I was told it is the cabana closest to the slide. . which is why we changed. I HOPE it has a good view of the movie.

I know this much. . . I'm getting up early, going to Pastamore' to pick up breakfast (don't forget the Starbucks, which I have given up until vacation due to fat content of mocha's), then plopping down in the cabana and enjoying some food, STARBUCKS, and a good novel. I'm thinking the kids will have fun on the slide and it would be a good day to dash off for a water ride or two, or three . . . whatever.

If we bring down all our stuff and just leave it there all day, will it be safe?? Maybe that's kind of a stupid question, but has anyone done that. We certainly wouldn't leave anything like money there, but the usual beach day stuff you tote around?? Anyone had any problems with things going missing from the pool areas?

I'm off to look for a menu for what's available pool side. Any recommendations??

The only thing we had go missing is DH's wallet. We paid our final tab at the end of the night - so most everybody was gone, and left for the Portofino. We had barely left the gate when DH realized that the wallet must have slipped out. We ran back to the cabana - this was less than 5 minutes and the wallet was gone.

We were leaving the next morning at 6am. What fun boarding a plane without ID. Luckily we called United and they told us that if we had a police report, and it was a return trip, we shouldn't have too much trouble. He just had a bit of extra screening.

Police said it was not uncommon at any of the resorts, Univeral and Disney. People troll around to see if people leave their wallets or purses unattended. The police officer told us that if they ever dredged the boat canal, they would find hundreds of wallets. They grab the cash and throw the rest in the water.

The time we had 2 cabanas (7 and 8), we had the adults in 8 and the kids in 7. The kids were always in the pool, so I did notice people trying to grab the floats and things that were still in 7. Pretty sure they weren't trying to steal anything, that it was just extra pool stuff (in an occupied cabana), but I did have to tell a family to put the stuff back. They were pretty sneaky though. They tried to come back several times, sending different kids over to grab the floats. I just don't get some people.

That said, we have left our books and clothes and such in the cabana, did a few rides and came back. Everything was still in place. But I wouldn't leave anything you are not willing to lose. You never know what kind of people are hotel guests.

I did return once, after walking my mother back to the PBH and DH and kids were in the parks, to find an entire family parked in the cabana watching cartoons on the TV. Our stuff was all over the table, so you could definitely tell it was occupied.

I picked up my book off the table and laid down in our lounge chair that I had pulled into the cabana for shade and continued to read. They finally left after about half an hour. They weren't bothering me and the kids looked like they could use some shade, so I didn't say anything.

As for the book, the pool boy bringing me drinks, the kids in the pool or the parks, and lounging in the cabana - The BEST way to spend a day at Universal :cool1:

We had the chicken fingers and cheese sticks last visit they were pretty good. I totally Forgot about STARBUCKS . I live on STARBUCKS and can't give up on my drinks . I usually have at least one a day . The fat content is high but in NYC they are on everyother corner it is so hard to resist .MY DH thinks i am like a this with STARBUCKS ....

Ready .... :worship: STARBUCKS .
(me)

Enjoy maybe we will see you POOLSIDE :cool1:

There is also a Starbucks in Louie's on the Studios side.
Just saying...:rolleyes1

:scared1: Yikes! I'm assuming your dh never got his wallet back. . . .that stinks. The only good thing I see from this is that at least it hadn't been stolen. . . sounds like an accident. We plan to carry some cash, but not very much. After reading some other threads, we have decided to use the room key as much as possible, travelers checks (I know, very old school. . but so safe) and our credit cards when all else fails. That way, we don't have to worry so much. I'm such a freak about things like this. I have to write down every time we take cash or tc's from our stash and then add all receipts to our budget every night. . . :confused3

Do you take your own pool toys for the kids? I was wondering if HRH had toys available or what? My kids definitely need toys. I'll be certain to put our name on whatever we bring.

I do have some things I wouldn't want to lose. . . lots of very nice beach towels my parents have brought us back from various trips, etc. I guess we will just have to be certain someone is either there at all times, or take the stuff back to our room when we are not. The sad thing is that you know there are not just random kids running around. This is a pricey resort and someone's parents are paying a premium to stay there. I know this stuff happens everywhere. . .

So is it not posted anywhere that the cabanas are reserved and/or occupied?? :confused3 You are such a kind person, cuz if I were honest, I don't know that I would've been ok with another family hanging out, for free, when I had to pay $200 to do it!! I might've charged some rent :rolleyes1

A couple other questions. . . do you know if there is tax charged on cabana rental? Is the food you order from the beachclub worth it?? We were kinda thinking order pizza to be delivered or something. Maybe run out for something. I looked at the menu, and, well, I just wasn't very impressed. . . . just want to know what we can expect.
