hi all:wave:

It's my birthday today and I just managed to bag the last cabana on the Family beach at castaway cay for our upcoming trip!:cheer2:

We've got Cabana no 20, and I'm struggling to find out much information, other than most people seem to prefer the lower numbers (particularly 5-9!):goodvibes

We are a family of four - our two boys are 9 and 12, and im sure will want to visit Pelican plunge and do some snorkelling, and wed all probably want to take advantage of the included snorkelling equipment and bike rental - although our priority will be chilling out and sunbathing.

We like to be away from crowds and if that is the quieter end of the beach then that's terrific - I'm a sun worshipper, so I'm not worried about lack of shade and indeed I don't actually like to be too near vegetation as I get paranoid about bugs and being bitten, so from that aspect the new cabanas appeal - but they do seem very close together?:confused3

So, after that long introduction :faint:, my questions are these.....

How far away from everything REALLY is cabana 20? We are able bodied and can walk comfortably - is the walk to pelican plunge, cookies and the snorkelling a trek or just a slightly longer stroll than the other cabanas?:goodvibes

For those of you that have stayed in the new cabanas, were you happy? Or would you have switched to a lower number if one became available? And if you would/wouldn't switch could you tell me why please?

Thank you so much for any advice :thumbsup2 - I was thrilled this morning when I managed to get a cabana, but now I'm worried that perhaps the area is too close together to feel private and im worried about being too far away from everything to make popping to get food or snorkel etc easy?

We have stayed in cabanas 16 and 18 and both were great. They now have the bathrooms open right near there so even more convenient. Pelican plunge is quite close as is Cookies Too. My husband had the concierge golf cart drive him over to the snorkelling area. If I had to opportunity to choose any cabana number I would probably choose 12ish but I would definitely take any of them, without hesitation.

Have fun!

We stayed in 20 and our only complaint was how far it was from everything. It wasn't so far that it ruined our trip or that we didn't like it, we still loved it and would book it again if given the chance. If they have new bathrooms open closer as a previous poster mentioned that would make a big difference. Also, they are supposed to have CMs available to give you a ride to go get your food and shuttle you back and forth if you like but there weren't many CMs around on this particular day so we ended up walking back and forth every time someone wanted food, or a drink, or to use the restroom or visit a store and it got to be a little inconvenient. They are fairly close to one another and in March 2015 when we were there, there was very little vegetation so that meant very little privacy when on your porch. I posted a couple pictures. If you look closely you can see the porch of cabana 19 and 21 on either side. I've got other pictures if you're looking for something specific, let me know and I'll try to find it.

Thank you ever so much for posting - I really appreciate it.:thumbsup2

I'm hoping with the new restrooms open by cabana #16, that the only real walking we'll need to do will be for pelican plunge and Cookies too - hopefully we can get a shuttle for the snorkelling, as I understand that might be a little further out.:thumbsup2 I'm really excited as on previous trips we've been back on the ship straight after lunch, as I really don't enjoy crowded beaches, and whilst the cabana is the furthest away from everything, I'm actually looking forward to the secluded nature of it. It's not so much privacy I'm after, as just not worrying about losing chairs/hammocks if we decide we want to explore a little! :goodvibes

That's why we love it too. You can lock your stuff in a safe and go exploring without having to worry about it, it's quiet but not completely removed from everyone and everything. You can get shade when you need it and there are plenty of chairs, tubes, your own hammock and a refrigerator to keep your drinks cool. Plus it's so nice to eat inside your cabana on fairly comfortable chairs. For us, it just makes our whole time on CC so much more enjoyable and relaxing. It's also the one time we are not afraid of the ship leaving without us so we aren't hurrying to get back on board early. On the contrary, we have actually encouraged the CMs to let the ship sail without us so we can stay on the island but they just won't. ;-) I'm sure you will enjoy it too!

We had cabana 18 before the bathroom went in and that was my only complaint at the time, it was a hike with little kids to the bathroom.... but now that they have the restrooms, I'm sure it will be fine. Even without the bathrooms, if it was between cabana 20 or no cabana at all, I'm all about the cabana!

Happy Birthday!!

The walk on the path, from #20 / 21 / #? end cabana, to lets say, Cookies Too, is 3 - 4 minutes for an average male.
From #6 it is 80 - 100 paces for an adult male. So , .. 220- 300 feet. So 1 - 2 minutes.
So even if in the last Family Cabana # 2X, it's not more than 1000 feet to Cookies Too, or the original bathrooms.
But now there are bathrooms "around the bend from # 10, which means pax in # 21 are 10 - 70 feet away from bathrooms."

IOW the distances are not that great regardless of the Cabana on the Family beach especially regarding Bathrooms now.
And the food is only twice the distance, which only adds 2 minutes if walking, compared to the closer units.

Of course #1 is 20 - 35 paces to the Cookies Too.

Cookies Too is 100 - 120 feet more from the bathrooms. So subtract 100 - 120 feet to get to the bathrooms, at least for the lower Cabana #'s.

Cabanas #12 thru Monster Cabana (#21), are around the corner, and on the lagoon/tidal pool, That still has little depth, yet varies, no swimming possible.

Water great for toddlers, not so much for adults fwiw.

Cabanas 1 - 10 , on maim swim-able beach.
11 -13 on point. the transition to tidal pool.

Below link; Old pic, lagoon not dredged. New cabanas not shown. New Bathrooms not shown. Bathroom building is SSW of Cookies Too 100 feet.

Using Google Distance Key, distances are less than I indicated. That is good. fwiw.
Perhaps if you are in # 11 or above , don't click on goggle map link. LOL

Enjoy
