First time cruising question...

Does it make sense to book a banana for a mid January cruise? DH and I keep going back and forth on this one. We have been to WDW multiple times in January and had to wear hats and gloves! I use to live in the Caribbean and know the weather can change on a dime.

Would we better off just enjoying the island/ renting bikes/ etc on our own?

Thanks for any and all opinions :)

We don't find it necessary to have the cabana. It's a big cost if you aren't sure you want or need one. We go to the beach for the whole day and are just fine with the umbrellas. In my opinion if we were traveling with a baby or elderly folks then I would consider it, but the price it too much for my pocketbook.

We get a cabana any time we go. You are right, for Jan it could be sunny and hot, or 60 and cooler. It really is a toss-up for January. We get it to have our own spot and not have to worry about our things and dragging a bag around with us. It's also very nice to have your own spot to eat and change. I understand people saying its not 'worth it' to them. That is fine, I understand that. It is worth it for us. Very nice and quiet and makes our beach day always a comfortable one.

I too am wondering about a Cabana in January. What is the weather like in the Caribbean in January. The only time we have been on a cruise in January we missed CC because of rough seas.

January in the Caribbean is hit or miss. Farther South islands are usually about mid 80's which is nice and the water is nice, but can be cooler with tides. The northern islands can be cool depending on the dip in the jet stream and how far down it's going. I have seen weather in the high 80s and then falling to the mid 60s the next (that was seriously weird winter though). I would say for the Bahamas region plan on it being in the low 80s/ upper 70s and the water being around 70 degrees or so.
