Planing on going to Winn-Dixie Supermarket down by DTD and was wondering what the cab fare would be from there to POP? I am taking the ME so I can't do my regular grocery stop and was thinking of going shopping at DTD and then hopping on a cab to Winn-Dixie Supermarket which I'm assuming should be cheap since its just a 5 minute ride according to Mapquest. But I wanted to know what the cab fare would be back to POP since I'm intending to get a case of water and its way too heavy for me to carry back to DTD and then take a bus. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :cool1:

FYI---

Make sure that Winn-Dixie is still open. They are closing all of the Winn-Dixie's in NC and SC. I have not heard about the FL stores.

My husbands cab ride from CBR to MK was $14.00 not including the tip. I do not know if that tells you much.

Our Winn Dixie Stores in northern Alabama are set to close in July so you may want to have a second store in mind. Why not try WeGoShop.com? They shop for you and deliver to your room for $15 for the first $100. I'm trying them in July after seeing all of the reviews of them on the board.

IMO - Shop at Publix!!!

I know this is off topic from the OP's question but I wanted to add my two cents worth!

As previous posters have mentioned, Winn Dixie is closing many stores. The only stores that will remain are in FL an GA (but some of them will be closed also). I have been with Winn Dixie for 9 years here in NC. We were told yesterday that all stores except those in Fl and GA would be closed sometime before September 1st! This is after months of speculation - and - after having been told over and over again by the company that there "wouldn't be major closings" and we "shouldn't worry." Two months notice is bad enough for something like this but then our manager followed this news with the news that our store may be part of a purchase of five or six stores by another grocery chain and if the deal goes through it will be complete within two weeks! How's that for notice. They don't know yet if the new chain will want to keep the employees on. ("Wait and see!")

We are in a very small, relatively rural area. Our store employees about 100 people and there just aren't enough jobs in this county for us all to go to. Winn Dixie sure isn't looking out for its employees :confused3 so I feel it's only fair to let my opinion be known and recommend you SHOP ELSEWHERE - anywhere else!!!

Thanks for letting me vent...my blood pressure needed it!

Thanks for replies. I didn't now they were closing or that they were so rotten to their employees. I won't be giving them my business. I like to shop for myself because I never know what I'm going to be in the mood for in that kind of heat. I guess I'll have to order by netgrocer.com, they don't have a minimum, I can order the water from them and the other stuff I'll bite the bullet and go to Goodings. Thanks everyone! :cool1:

Just a thought, but maybe you could just take the cab ride to Publix? Personally, I am glad to see Winn Dixie go. I feel bad for any of the people that work for them and will have trouble finding somewhere else to work, but Winn Dixie never kept their stores up the way that Publix does. They just seem dingy and dirty to me as well as being much higher priced than Publix.

Having always stopped at Goodings I wasn't familiar with any of the other supermarkets in the area. The only reason I asked about Winn-Dixie was that another poster suggested it and I looked it up on Mapquest and saw how close it is to DTD. I'll check out Publix, thanks. :cool1:

As a former employee, I'm sad to see the Winn Dixie closings, but they're not as drastic as a previous poster indicates. They're not just pulling back to FL & GA. Despite SEVERE cutbacks, some stores in Louisiana, Mississippi, & Alabama are remaining open.

The reported numbers say something like 35% of the stores will be closed. I know they're trying to sell off some of the properties to local chains here in LA, so there may be some hope that the two Orlando locations will re-open under new ownership.

To answer the OPs actual question I cannot give a definite answer but how to figure it out.

Go to Mapquest or a similar program. Plug in the street address for POP (1050 Century Drive, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830) and get driving directions to the store you want. Look at the mileage shown.

Taxis in Orlando are currently $2.00 for the first 1/4 mile and then $0.25 per 1/8 mile (figure $3.50 for the first mile and $2.00 per mile thereafter) plus tip.
