cab fare to grocery store

Does anyone know how much a cab fare would be to a nearby grocery store from the POFQ...not the really expensive one right outside the gate.

We are trying to decide whether it is better to pack all of the snacks and extra bottled water/pop/beer or buy it when we get there...there are 3 of us, 2 adults and a child, so we should have an extra bag or 2 available to pack and take with us.

Since we are using magical express we are not planning on renting a car.

thanks

Why not just go to Hess? It sounds like all you are looking for is water, snacks, beer, etc. You can get a cab right over to the Boardwalk Hess, though I think the MK Hess is supposed to be very nice now (I have not been there since the refurb). The one at DD has pizza and sandwiches.

You could also get a bus to DD, and then walk over - and get a cab back if you need.

Thanks for the tip....it has been about 8 years since we have done Disney so I dont really remember how things are layed out or what is available on site, that sounds like a good suggestion....is there a grocery store in DD or is more like a gas station convenience store; milk, pop, beer, snacks, etc.?

Any ideas how pricing is at the Hess in DD, it is a gas station is'nt it? Frankly I am of the opinion I would prefer to spend a little more on a cab to pay less for sundry items rather than support outrageous pricing...I hate feeling like I am being gouged and taken advantage of...

You could also try a grocery delivery service. I used Garden Grocer (www.gardengrocer.com) last year and was very pleased with them. The delivery fee is not much and their prices are good. You also don't have to waste your valuable WDW time going to a store. They bring the stuff right to your room or deliver it to bell services who will then bring it to your room.

It is a gas station, and mostly very reasonable (much more reasonable than Disney!) The last I saw when I stopped for gas last week - $2.95 per gallon, which is a great price (when they switched to Hess, the gas dropped - thankfully!), the Coke 12 packs were 2 for $6.00. Sometimes the DD Hess has a pizza for $6.00 or so, they are actually very good (is it Godfathers, I'm not sure?). If I want something on property, I go to Hess. We'll pick up sodas, snacks, etc. if I forget anything. Otherwise, you'll be paying more in cab fare - and at that point, I'd go to Publix.

I am local, and I'm cheap - and I go to Hess for gas and items. I don't know how the beer prices measure, I don't drink it - but I'd expect it'd be the same. Sometimes we pick up items at the Hess because they are cheaper than the grocery store at that given time (if we are stopping there anyway).

I think it cost us 30 to 40 bucks to take a cab to Goodings.

We usually rent a car at least one day. Theres always something to go out for.

we are using gardergrocer too.

Wow!

And Goodings is more expensive than Hess, by far! At that point, I'd rent a car for the day. Go to Publix, go to the Orlando Premium Outlets, which has the Character Premiere (Disney's outlet store for their merchandise, one of them anyway).

I found that the Hess Station prices are quite reasonable compared to Disney prices. Just know that they do not carry Pepsi products.

Right, they only carry Dasani water too (yuck for me, but not everyone cares). I wish Disney would start selling Zephyrhills again.

Anyone know if Hess carries cereal? This seems like it would save some time If we do end up shipping our sunblock down.(We use continuous spray and I don't think you can bring that on the plane)

If they do, it'd be a very small amount of it - you might want to ship the cereal too! :) If I travel and want my cereal, I just throw a box of it in my bag.

I've not been to the Hess near the MK yet since the renovation, so they may have more items.

does the hess carry beer...is it possible to take disney transportation to it?

Hess carries beer, yes. You can get a bus to Downtown Disney and walk across the street. Then you can walk back across and get the bus back to your resort. :)

Which part of DD are we talking about, is it Market Place or West Side?

Thanks

Susan

I haven't ever walked across the street so I don't think much about it. I would say closer to the Marketplace, I think the West Side is closer to the Team Disney building.

The HESS that is in the DD area is across from West Side.
If you take a cab to PUBLIX, the closest one is on Vineland just a little down the road from The Dixie Stampede.
To the poster that was charged $40 to get to Goodings, You were WAY overcharged by the cab company and that is unfortunate.
Goodings is located directly across 535 from Downtown Disney-you could have walked there if needed. That cabbie should be fired for taking advantage like that.

If you do decide to take the cab to PUBLIX, you will see that there will be waiting cabs when you are finished shopping waiting to take you back to your resort.
