CA to lift mask mandate on 2/15

I am not assuming that Disney will change the masking rule come 2/15. The current CA masking indoors rule was related to the Omicron surge. I think it started in December? And now it will expire in February.

Disney has had the mask mandate in place almost the entire time they have been reopened except for a short period of time over the summer around June. So I would not be surprised if Disney keeps it after 2/15.

Both Disneyland and Disney World have gone through periods of requiring and not requiring masks. If I remember correctly the Delta wave caused Disney to reintroduced them.

With Omicron proving to be less problematic and cases falling in all areas the justification for keeping the mandates will hopefully only reduce.

Disney has a lot of problems and negotiations with the Unions has broken over the vaccine mandates last I heard which Disney will push ahead on (a sign they see vaccines over masks as being the way forward).

Over the coming months I think the direction of travel is going to be less restrictions and a lot less masks and happy days for that :D

Will it be in time for my trip on the 19th - probably not - but I can dream :)

Hoping for a return to a more normal world soon :D

The mask mandate is for vaccinated persons. Unvaxxed will still be required. Which is why Disney required it before. The union says "How do you know if someone UNVAXXED is not wearing a mask?" So DIsney says everyone will wear them inside.

Disney follow what the CDC and local authorities say. They have implemented and removed masks at various points. The last I heard Disney have stopped talking to the Unions as they couldn't reach agreement. I don't think Disney care all too much what the Unions think anymore.

I would seriously doubt it. WDW has had a mask mandate and Florida has never had a statewide one. I am sure they will keep it, and I truly hope they do.
I think FL followed CA rules because it was easier to set the guidelines for the whole company

They have not followed that in the past. They only removed the masking indoor requirement very briefly, then reinstated it, even when it was not a county or state requirement.

I only hope that if they are going to change their policy, they do it with enough notice that guests who wouldn’t otherwise visit without the indoor mask mandate (like me) have time to cancel and book a different vacation. This is exactly why I booked a package, knowing I am more risk adverse than the general public, so I can cancel up to 5 days in advance and get the vast majority of my money back!

Your memory fails you... They reintroduced masks due to delta and the advice changing. Yes it was briefly as alpha had waned and then Delta came out of nowhere and change the situation.

We are adapting our health and safety guidelines based on guidance from health and government officials, and will require Cast Members and Guests ages 2 and up, to wear face coverings in all indoor locations at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort beginning Friday, July 30, regardless of vaccination status,” said a Disney spokesperson in an official statement to the press. “At Walt Disney World Resort, this includes upon entering and throughout all attractions and in enclosed transportation vehicles, including shuttles, buses, monorails and at Disney Skyliner.”

The policy change at the parks comes as Covid cases continue to surge in the U.S., fueled in part by the spread of the Delta variant and others.

L.A. County reinstated a mandate for masking in indoor public places on July 18. The state of California called for universal indoor masking earlier today.

If Disney follow what they have done in the past then there is every reason to think Disney will now drop masks - well soon anyway.

Can't you just wear a N95 mask or better ? That plus the vaccine and you will be really well protected. Be a shame if you cancelled. Masks will have to go at some point.

That is correct, but DL is in Orange County, not LA County. I live in Orange County and we had a very long stretch where masks were NOT required indoors yet they were still required at the DLR. Only recently did Orange County have to go back to wearing masks indoors due to the statewide mandate, but this was only the last two months. But Disneyland never dropped the indoor mask requirement even when Orange County did (and at a time when there was no statewide mandate).

maybe. I’m just not excited to be crammed indoors with a huge crowd of strangers during the first week or so of this change. There are a lot of other places I’d be more comfortable. And the cost of canceling is not significant.

You’re right that they have to go at some point, but it’ll still be awhile for me until I attend an indoor event with an unmasked crowd.

The current mask mandate went back into effect for CA Dec 15, yet Disneyland had mask requirements for indoor areas when we went in September, November, and the first weekend in Dec, when there were no mask mandates. I agree, Disney will likely keep the indoor masks.

I think all 3 of us are saying the same thing. California dropped their indoor masking June 15th 2021. Disney also dropped the mask mandate then. (July 28, California does recommend masks be worn by vaccinated people also indoors, but no mandate.) Then July 30th 2021, they reinstated it. Even when CA and Orange county did not require it. California reinstated the mask mandate for vaccinated group on Dec 15 (unvaxxed are supposed to wear a mask indoor public areas). It will drop Feb 15. I don't think Disney will drop theirs.

Not really. The union talks broke down because the Unions wanted Disney to require that all Cast AND GUESTS be vaccinated. And Disney said absolutely not to that. So, Disney is moving ahead with requiring all cast to be vaccinated.

I think Disney will drop the mask rule ONLY because with it in place they are required to provide masks to guests and you KNOW they don't want to spend that money if they don't have to. However, I suspect that until all their cast have submitted proof of vaccination (due sometime on April, I think?) they will keep the mask rule in place.
