Hi all, I did a search, and the only answers I was able to find were from a long time ago. We were thinking of trying to do dessert and drinks only at the CA Grill for fireworks when we're there in June. The entire menu doesn't appeal to the other two adults we're going with. It would be just the four adults.
So, for those who have been recently, is this doable?

It is doable but you would need to get there early as it gets quite busy before fireworks, and there arent a huge number of bar tables. My wife and I do this every now and then, but its usually just the two of us and we sit at the bar so its less of a problem for us...

Honestly, I would not bother trying to go here for dessert/drinks. The place is a zoo close to fireworks, the desserts are nothing to die for, and the view of the fireworks is not that great (much better view in the park itself). The bar is not up against the glass, the viewing platform outside may be crowded and it's kind of off to the side.

If you are going to make a reservation and actually waste a dining table to just get desserts, you may find that you would not be seated in time for fireworks anyway as people generally make dinner ressies 90-120 min before the fireworks and then stay at their tables even if they are done eating. I have found that if we make reservations to eat close to fireworks time, we are often seated way behind schedule (last time was 50 min past our adr time). We are not interested in the fireworks but it is annoying to have to wait so long for a table.

You said it, I didnt:duck: But I agree with what you are saying. A party of four having 4 desserts and 4 or more adult beverages. Vs. A party of 4 each having one entree, water, no dessert or appetizer. What makes one more entitled to the table than the other:confused3

No you missed my point. To guarantee to be seated by the time the fireworks show, you would have to book 90-120 min before the show which is a long time to sit with one small dessert. Booking a table 45 min before fireworks--very good chance you will not be seated until after the show.

Gotcha, your right I missed that point, my bad:thumbsup2

Personally - I think dessert only ressies should only be made for after the fireworks to be fair to the servers. They only get on chance to serve a nice size dinner to fireworks folks and receive a good tip. I think it would be a bit rude to take up a table for desserts only during the fireworks

I can tell you that my mom and sister had the same idea and were refused a table at that time since they were just ordering desserts. It's a hot place to be and the management at the time opted to not seat people who were not having a meal.

They WERE, however, allowed to sit in the bar area.

Even though they are family, I don't think it was right to try and take a table from a server during peak time for a small tab, personally, so the bar seemed like the perfect spot for them.
