Just quick question....when you have your c-pap in your room what do you use to cover the nasal opening. worried about sanitation and critters!

If you don't cover it at home, I'm not sure why you would need to cover it in your hotel room. If you're phobic about Housekeeping touching it, just cover it with a clean article of clothing.

I put it up in a drawer or in my suitcase.

Not because of critters, but because I don't want strangers touching it.

They might have to move it or in plug it or accidentally knock it to the floor. They're using their hands to clean I don't want them touching my mask.

I put my toothbrush up for the same reason.

I just pop it into the nightstand drawer and close it. I've never had housekeeping anywhere touch my CPAP machine or the hose. Its always exactly where I left it when I get back. If you're really worried about it, put the mask into a sock to keep it clean.

We take along a new, clean 2 gallon "zippy" (ZipLoc) bag when we travel, and DH puts his mask/hose in there, and then that, along with the unit goes into the suitcase when we are out of the room.

He thoroughly cleans & sanitizes his tank, mask & hose every night (and we have to bring along Distilled Water) because... well, it's on his face, and he breathes through it, so... He doesn't let ANYONE touch it but him.

We use a plastic container to hold the mask and small hose and so forth in the room.

Usually forget to cover my sister's but she does have a small bag that one mask came in. We usually pack it in that for travel and on occasion, have used it to cover her mask when in hotels. We very rarely cover it, but have on occasion at hotels. Usually, we cover it if the space to place it is small and can slide off too easily from where we placed it.

Gift shops sell distilled water it's like $3 a gallon. Unless you drive then it's probably cheaper that way. But I fly and just buy a gallon for the Cpap and to make coffee.

Thank you! I had never seen the distilled water in the shops (although admittedly, since we always brought our own or had it shipped in with groceries, there was no need for me to look for it). I'm genuinely glad to hear it's available so easily on site!

They tend to keep it behind the counter. You just have to ask.

You can use bottled water while on vacation. The only reason you use distiller water is to prevent "pitting"of the metal tank. Bottle water and distiller water are the same as far as what you are breathing in. Once the air passes over the water in the tank it goes directly into your plastic hose...no part of your machine will be damaged.

Some shops have it on the shelf. I believe it was Beach Club Marketplace where I saw it on our last trip in November 2014.

So I asked at the WL Mercantile store. The CM I asked explained they keep it in the back, not on the shelf, so all you have to do is ask and they will get it. The price was in the $3-4 range IIRC, which is higher than "normal" stores, but kind of reasonable if that is all you need. She said most of the resorts are similar.

I include a gallon of distilled water with my Garden Grocer order; price is cheaper and I am placing an order anyway.

Never occurred to me that housekeeping would touch the mask. I do use citrus mask wipes each morning; put just enough wipes in a ziploc for the duration of vacation rather than carry the whole container along. I do ziplock both machine and mask for going through TSA.

Critters? Like bedbugs? Mice? We've found WDW rooms to be very clean and critter free.

I have an older model so I don't use any kind of water. Thanks for the tips on using the bigger bags to cover my unit with and my mask. I'm not too worried about the unit its self but don't want anyone touching my mask or hose. Thanks again everyone!

FWIW - my husband is a total germaphobe and he does nothing to protect his CPAP while we're on vacation. He picks the "best night stand" - i.e. closest to an outlet and then sets his mask/tubing on the unit when we leave for the day. He has done this in many places - Mexico, Vegas, WDW, DL, Palm Springs, etc - and we've never had an issue. At first he was super diligent about distilled water but has given up on that except for longer trips when we pick up/order it.

I use a pillow case, I just stuff the whole mask in there. I like it because it breaths, unlike a plastic bag and they are easy to wash.
