DD has been diagnosed with C-Diff - http://www.cdiffsupport.com/aboutcdiff.html - from taking a number of antibiotics in the last 10 days and was admitted to the hospital because of it.

Does anyone know how long a person usually is in the hospital because of it? Of the 4 doctors that she saw yesterday, no one said anything to us about how long she may be there and I am not finding anything while searching online.

If anyone has any experience with this, I would appreciate hearing about it.

TIA! :)

What a bummer, Beth. I have no idea about it, but sure do wish her well, you guys too. She is in my prayers for a quick recovery.

Beth,
I read your link and I'm just curious as to why they are hospitalizing her? It didn't sound like the treatment required that. But they may feel that she is severely dehydrated? Maybe they just want her in there so they can hook her up to and IV and get her well-hydrated.

Thanks Dan! :)

P.S. I was thinking about you last week when our #3 DD went to Chicago for a band trip. I am not sure what the Music Festival it was, but I know that she had a good time.

Yes, she was admitted at least for dehydration but I am not sure if there are other factors. :confused3

Oh, then that's probably all it is then. I know that they really worry about that and if you're having horrible diarrhea then you cannot get rehyrdated on your own. My guess is that they'll keep in there for 24-48 hours and get her stabilized with hydration, started on meds, and then let her go home.

I hope she feels better soon.

Just curious, what were all the different antibiotics that caused this? Some of them are really lethal. I know that Biaxin has a high incidence of causing this. I took it for about 3 days and got horrible (but painless) diarrhea and they made me come right off of it for fear of c-diff.

C-Diff can be contagious. Whenever we had a case of it at the nursing home I worked at, it was taken very seriously.

Best wishes for your daughter. I'm sure her doctor just wants to keep an eye on her until the worst of this has passed.

She started on Augmentin, then was given an injection of Roseffin, then was on Avelox. The Infectious Disease MD that she saw yesterday said that there has been some literature that shows a higher incidence of C-Diff in people taking Avelox and that she is encouraging other Drs not to prescribe this medicine.

BTW, DD just called and said that they are going to try to step her diet from clears and see how she does. If it does not cause things to get bad again, she may be released tonight. :cheer2:

You are right. DD works as the hospital where she has been admitted. She has always has been concerned about picking up C-Diff since she is a Nurses Aid and is involved with the "clean up" of this problem with patients. But we really think that it was the antibiotics that she was on that caused this for her - but now WE need to be careful too! ::yes::
