Hearing reports of no cookie decorating on the cruise - should we bring our own gingerbread cookies to decorate? Not homemade, but a couple of those giant decorate Gingerbread kits you can buy at the grocery that come completely sealed.

You should be able to bring them on board to use in your cabin.

I bring a gingerbread house kit on every VM cruise - I decorate them in the room and tell the room steward they are welcome to keep them as a decoration or toss them when we leave.

Doing those kits can be pretty mess. The icing hardens everywhere or crumbles.

You also can’t take it off the ship at end either.

I’m sure if it was sealed you should be fine. Question is will you find time to do it with other things going on around the ship.

Obvi, we would clean up any mess we made - we do stuff like this in the little coffee shop in our local grocery store (no empty flat surfaces to work with in our tiny apartment.) We always clean up when we go there so we're used to it. As for questions it's not hard to say "We heard they stopped doing cookie decorating, it was important to us for this trip, so we brought this from home."

Well, except for the mess. And random people stopping by asking where they got the supplies for the activity.

Honestly? It sounds like they've done away with most of the specific Christmas stuff these days, over the Christmas trip we would much rather take some us time and do cookie decorating then yet another generic Disney trivia contest.

Is there a reason this would need to be done in the cabin? I'd think it would be easier to do it at an out of the way table somewhere.
I mentioned the cabin only because I can't think of any public area on the ship that would be good to do this.

It sounds like you are really trying hard to do "Christmas at Home" on your cruise.
Would it be easier for you to reframe this as doing DIFFERENT traditions this year, rather than "how we always do it".

There will be plenty to do on the cruise, you don't need to haul all your own activities as well!

It used to be an activity on the Very Merry cruises. Then they dropped it down to gingerbread cookies. So yes, there is a desire as part of the theme for the cruise.
I was asking the OP so they could think about the importance to them.

I found a foam gingerbread kit I bought a few years ago most likely from the Dollar Tree. I'm going to take those the cruise instead of actual cookies/gingerbread house. I'm sure you can still find them.

I’m sure there will be other Christmas theme activities to supplement this one. Moreover, why not do it at home as a special activity to get in the mood for the crusie instead of on the crusie? Seems to save luggage space from perishable items.

Do you have a strong desire to decorate gingerbread on a cruise? If not, I wouldn't bother.
I think that’s a fair question. My vote is if you are just going to buy it, transport it, build it, and clean up the mess yourself you might as well do it at home a weekend before or after the cruise, then save your cruise time for the cruise-run activities where all you have to is show up and have fun. I enjoy bingo on disney cruises, but if they didn’t offer it any more, I wouldn’t bring a portable bingo game and sit in my stateroom for an hour yelling “Shake it up betty” and busting a move to the B-11 song.

Yeah, I know I'm going to catch flack for this but I bought a special hard side carry on just for all the food we're bringing with. I don't think a couple of gingerbread men are going to take up much of that space. And yes, all food will be factory sealed. I'll spend the first part of the month making my usual baked goods and such so I won't need to worry about missing those - and focus on factory sealed store bought stuff for the trip.

And yes - I know, plenty of food on board - but none of it is the stuff that it just isn't Christmas without. And reports back is that outside of stuff we have to pay for and main meals in the dining room it's pretty nasty anyway.

Most of the Christmas activities I've heard about outside of the cookie decorating were pretty much jut for the kids - and we don't have any so that let's us out. Not to mention that with a b2b - a lot of the normal cruise activities are going to be repeats for us.

Maybe I'm making something out of nothing, but all these recent complaints coming back from cruisers is making me really nervous. I just wanna make sure that I have what I need to keep this special even if Disney fails due to all the recent cut backs.
