i hate to say it, but this is a good economic move for usair. there were plans to scrap it before all of this happened, it probably just sped up the process.

metrojet uses older 737's that are gas-guzzlers and not as cost-effecient for us-air.

Any idea how long before we know the impact? I have Metrojet ressies from Logan direct to Orlando on 2/24 and then back to Manchester through BWI on 3/3.

Will they reschedule? Refund?

Everyone says we need to keep flying and the Airlines are cancelling so many flights. How do we keep flying with few flights. I have PVD to MCO in March on MetroJet. Now I have to wait and see what they will do. Bummer!!

Figures. I've got two Metrojet flights booked right now. One on November 14 & another on February 2.

Any idea how I might take a pre-emptive strike and get rebooked now even though they haven't officially announced this? I'm particularly concerned because both are award tickets and I have a sneaking suspicion I might get lower priority than paying passengers & end up flying at some absurd time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Actually, they have officially announced on US Airway's web site that Metrojet service will be discontinued by December, 2001. So call now if you are booked on flights after that, and have them make alternate arrangements for you. Be polite and be very flexible, I'm sure Beverly Lynn is much more knowledgeable than I am on this, but I believe they are under no obligation to rebook you on US airways flights at the Metrojet price, and can simply give you a refund. My feeling si taht they will realy try to be accomodating, but you aare going to have to be realistic on your expectations as well.

I was told they can't do a thing until your flight is actually cancelled. We have res in March to Orlando and have to wait until it is cancelled. Rep said it could be done by Monday.

I got through to someone at USAir regarding my two itineraries involving Metrojet.

It seems the flight booked via the FirstUSA visa rewards is like a regular booking to them. I can change it to two other options they made available to me. The question is, should I rebook that November 14 flight or take the chance that it will still happen?

The big concern is the February 2 flight. I booked that one via Dividend Miles rewards and, since the flight has not yet been cancelled, the only other thing I can switch to is any other available reward seat. Probably needless to say that, at this point, the only ones available are for very late afternoon and very late night arrival (our original was an 8:30am depart / 11:30am arrival) which would blow a whole day of our vacation. I'm really depressed because I made a serious point of calling and getting the reward flight the first possible day I could to make sure I got times I wanted.

Given that I booked this 7 months ago, I think it's really unfair to limit me only to reward seats. Will they open up regular seats on other flights to reaccomodate reward purchases in consideration of the late cancellation they are making or am I going to be left with the dregs of the reward seats even though I was first in line to book?
