BWV Wireless :(

We were at BWV std view 4th floor room near the lobby from 17-21 Oct.

DH brought a laptop along for work, but he couldn't get connected. My iPad was intermittent--sometimes it would hang up and I would have to switch the wifi off and use the 3G connection instead.

We didn't realize the wired connection was disconnected, so we went to guest services to a get a cable for DH's laptop. (By now, I suppose they are getting tired of telling people its been disconnected. :rotfl: ) Anyway, they said some folks have had luck connecting to the internet by sitting over by the fireplace in the lobby. We looked over and there were a couple of folks balancing laptops on their laps over by the fireplace.

I didn't run any speed checks. DH just couldn't get in and I didn't think about it with my iPad.

We complained in August because the service was so bad. We were lucky though, we were above Big River and we frequently used their wifi.

I guess we were lucky during our stay 10/24-10/28 we had a 2 br standard view forget the room numbers but about 1/2 way down the hallway....had no problem with our iPads and laptops.loging in and staying connected...my friends husband did quite a bit of work on his...I asked him about the connection since I'd read there were problems and he at one point had his work website opened and two banks....doing a payroll transfer and had no issues

All wireless routers have internal firewalls that prevent outside traffic from getting to your connected PC. You just need to turn it on to block all traffic except your Internet connection. Also turn off file & print sharing when connecting to ANY public (I.e. Disney) network.

Yes, blocking traffic TO your device but the traffic you are initiating exits the router onto the wire. Unencrypted traffic can be captured rather easily on the wire. I wouldn't care about getting onto your laptop when I can see your passwords and other data crossing the network.

I can guaranty you that you cannot read outbound traffic from my PC if I am connecting to a trusted site. Your scenario is true if someone connects to a site they THINK is legitimate, but IP Traffic across the wire is secure assuming you are using http or https, and have set your network to "Public Network".

We experienced terrible wifi access at OKW in October. I called about it twice. Only one out of our four devices was able to connect because the signal was so low. They said they were opening a ticket with Comcast but that was about all I ever got. While we were at the main pool, we were sitting at a table still in the pool area but on the edge and we had no wireless connectivity at all there.

I travel quite a bit for business and I've never had wireless service this poor. Big disappointment.

Just did a resort survey which had alot of questions about wi-fi. I expressed the sentiments from this thread. I was so busy complaining about wi-fi, I forgot to complain about the change in parking at BWV. We were there during the recent cold snap and it was a real treat racing from that lot after dinner, in 40 degree temperatures

We were at AKV this June and the wi-fi was just horrible. My 13 year old son kept whining and begging me to go down and say something to them. Like that would have helped. :crazy2:

We are heading to the Beach Club in January, and we'll bring our MiFi Jetpack from Verizon. We've never had signal issues with our Verizon cell phones, so hopefully the signal will be strong enough to allow us to do a bit of work on our laptop.

I just got back from a 8 day stay, I got sick of calling the number everyday to complain about the wireless. The wireless was so bad on all of our devices, the tech lady tried to at first to blame them, after hard resets and turning the wifi on and off several times, I mentioned about how I had already read about how bad the services were and I was wise to thief game. Her tune quickly changed. She then said she would fill out a work ticket, every day I got that response.

Actually called this morning to complain about wifi at VWL. As long as the usage is very light, it seems to keep working right now. But any large web pages or even small downloads and it stops responding. I wonder if there's some throttle or just poor equipment. They are supposed to send a tech over to check it out.

It is currently ok for browsing but no way could I do any actual work over it. Hmmm...maybe that's the plan. :-/

I keep considering getting a mobile hotspot but don't want to spend the money right now...

Just got back from a week's stay at BWV. My brother was able to get a consistent wifi connection all week but I could not connect with my iphone or iPad. It was horrible. I could get connections in the lobby, MK, DHS and Epcot but in our room? Meh.

Update to my thread from this morning: i had called tech support this morning and they said a tech would be out to investigate. Tonight my internet is rock solid. This is the best I have ever had at WDW wired or wireless. We will see what happens tomorrow, but I am hopeful!! Well worth the 10 minute call this morning. I can surf, pull down apps, emails with attachments, and e-magazines. Almost like being at home. Wow. I am sure the speed doesn't match my home connection but it's extremely useable!!

Good for you! :thumbsup2

Room 217 BWV horrible horrible WIFI, last week. I wish I had thought to call and complain. I did receive a survey and went into detail about out experience. DH on a laptop and me on an IPAD.

Our wireless was terrible last week at BWV too. We were at BLT for three nights and didn't have a single problem. Switched to BWV and it cut out constantly, and usually when I was trying to appease a crabby baby with Elmo videos. It was really frustrating.

I was in BWV room 3081-3083 and no WiFi for 5 days. We called tech support and tried all their suggestions but nothing worked. On the porch I could get the public access conex but it kept cutting out.

We were in room 2009 BWV right after Thanksgiving for a week and WIFI was spotty. Had best luck early in the morning (like 6am early!) and during the fireworks which we enjoyed from our balcony. I did most of my web surfing through my 3G connection which worked best on the ferries.

I'm sitting on the balcony of my room, 4117, and I have excellent Internet signal strength and speed. Have been emailing pictures and surfing all morning here no problem. Way better than when I was at OKW, SSR and AKV.
