BWV vs OKW

You guys have given me a lot to think about...
We do spend time in the room watching TV and relaxing...

I'm trying to use the least points possible so that's why I'm thinking of OKW or BWV. They are the same points for the time I will be going (which is late June) according to the points charts unless there's something I'm missing. We're only planning to stay DVC from Sun-Thurs and then switch probably to POFQ (if there's a good rate) for friday and Saturday to save money.

But if I can't get SV at BW then I guess we'll have to go OKW...

Is SV standard View?

I know there's no food courts but I'm just looking for something relatively fast that's close to the resort. We can just plan to eat at the parks if its a problem...

Yes, SV is standard view.

Are you talking about going this June? If so you will have a hard time getting SV at BWV on such short notice. SV tends to sell out before the 7-month mark and you are now at the 4-5 month point. You'd have better luck with a non-SV BWV unit but, of course, that would take more points.

If you do want a SV unit at BWV I'd start trying to find a member right away and get on the wait list. You could also have the member make an OKW reservation and then put you on the SV BWV wait list, hoping something might come through.

Good luck! And congrats on your upcoming wedding.

Thanks Michelemouse! That's what I was wondering about. Yes we're going this June though we are willing to go anytime this summer b4 school starts. The wedding is June 19th so anytime after that is fine...

So you all think BWV are the best for us? Closely followed by OKW. so we should be happy at either.

Our big issue is that we both just graduated from college (well df is in his final semester) And we're looking for professional jobs AND trying to buy a house so we're waiting very last moment here.

I really want to be prepared so when I can finally make the decision to go for I can do it right away.

You guys have been great!

Thanks for helping this (hopefully) future DVCer!

Sarah,
Sorry.....I somehow totally missed that you were looking to stay as inexpensively as possible, and thus the need for the SV BWV reservation. I totally understand this. I do think Michelemouse gave you good advice---go over to the DVC rent/trade boards and see if you can get on the wait list for a SV BWV room. If you can't, I'm sure you both will be very happy with the OKW accomodations. Ask for a water or woods view when you make your request if you want something quiet/romantic or to be near HH if you want to be close to the pool and boat dock etc. While not a walk away from Epcot, OKW is a walk or nice boat ride away from DD and there are many dining choices there, as well as Olivia's on site. DD has nice sit-down restaurants like Bongos, House of Blues, Wolfgang Puck, Rainforest Cafe etc, as well as some "fast food" type options like Wolfgang Puck Express and even, if you're really looking for "fast" food---McDonalds.
I can totally understand your needing to stick with a budget with the wedding and house hunting etc. Our family of 5 found a good way to deal with the dining budget while on vacation and not having a food court option. Try eating a bigger breakfast, then for dinner eat slightly earlier so you can order off of the lunch menu----you can save a decent amount of money doing an earlier dinner from the lunch menu at most restaurants. Can't tell you how many times we've done this with 3 kids----especially now since they're over 10 years old and not considered "kids" anymore by Disney dining standards. Miss those "Kid's Menu" prices ! lol
Good luck finding a Member to rent from and hope a SV BWV room comes through for you. Let us know how you make out with your plans. :earsgirl:

I don't know, if you were happy at POR I think you might really enjoy OKW. Neither BWV nor OKW has a lot of good fast food options. Right at OKW you'd be limited to Olivia's and the take out windows but DD isn't far and by this summer the food court-type restaurant at SSR will also be open. At BWV you do have the option of getting food in Epcot (as long as using passes isn't a problem). OKW has an overall romantic feel and if your DF wants to swim there are 4 pools.

I'd like to throw a fly in the ointment as well. Could the budget possibly stretch to get a one-bedroom at OKW? Think about if you cut out breakfast out and planned to eat in at OKW or some other cost-cutting measure. I think this would be a truly memorable and romantic honeymoon option for you.

We have eaten at all of the food courts, plus all of the "fast food" eateries at the bigger resorts, and have found things like hamburgers and chicken strips cost pretty much the same.

Have you thought about going to SSR? The first building opens on May 17th and there may be others open by the time of your late June wedding.

While SSR points are more than OKW for a Studio, they are less than BCV, VWL, or BWV preferred.

For 5-days a Studio is: 55 points at OKW or BWV std., 65 points for SSR, or 70 points for VWL, BCV, BWV Pref.

Also, SSR will be the closest resort to DD with a very short walk (shorter than the OKW walk). DD has more restaurant choices from Rainforest Cafe, to Planet Hollywood, to House of Blues etc, and all the way to an actual McDonalds.

At SSR you'd be staying in a brand new resort.

Don't know about getting reservations as that depends on what buildings will be open and when. But SSR is now open for making reservations for all members, regardless of home resort.

Just a thought.

I didn't think of SSR, but it's a good idea.

Do you all think the bathtub is really worth 22 points a night compared to 11? I mean twice as much?

The breakfast thing brings up another question, what do you eat? Do you eat out? Or make something in the room?

Thanks again everyone! You've been really helpful!

It isn't just the bathtub. It is a full kitchen, LOTS of room a luxurios two room bath room with a full seperate shower and two seperate sinks (at OKW anyway), and a large living room, a full laundry room and two tvs as well as a big deck which is a great place to relax and eat your breakfast.
