We just returned from our 1 wk vacation. This was our first trip "home" and our home resort is BWV. We stayed at OKW our first night in a studio, 2nd - 6th night at BWV in a one-bedroom and our last night at OKW in a one-bedroom. I have to say that although the 1 bdrm at BWV is more convenient, the 1 bdrm at OKW is much more spacious. The studio was smaller than I expected but it worked fine for the first night we were there.

So do you go for the convenience and atmosphere or the space?

Wealso own at BWV and so far, we have only used our points to stay at BWV. (we've also stayed at VB, but didn't use points for those trips). Just love the location of BWV. Even though I think all of the DVC resorts are wonderful places to vacation, I just love the BWV location. Did I mention that I really love the location of the BWV? :D :D

So Carol, where are you planning on staying??? :D

Kathy: One other consideration between OKW and the other WDW VC's is point cost. We're staying at OKW in Dec. because that's what we could afford with our remaining points for the rooms we needed.

We own at both BWV and OKW. Our spring trip is our trip to BWV and our summer trip is at OKW. We originally stayed at OKW in '96, and bought at BWV in '98. We bought a resale OKW this past March.

I enjoy staying at both resorts. Yes, BWV is "in the action" and OKW is away from it all. For me, that's the beauty of it. In spring, when park hours are generally shorter, being so close to MGM and Epcot is great! In summer, when the heat starts to get to you, the quietness and relaxed atmosphere of OKW is a refreshing break.

Thanks to DVC you can choose which type of room you want!

So do you go for the convenience and atmosphere or the space?

If you can't decide, do what we do - alternate! We go May and December. May is more laid back and relaxing, more come and go, so we like OKW. December is more for all the Christmas activities, we like to be at BWV then, close to Epcot & MGM. I don't think I would like DVC if we always had to stay at the same place.

My biggest surprise at OKW after hearing all the comments on this board was how CLOSE it is to everything. True, it is not walking distance to Epcot or MGM, but the bus rides are VERY short to MGM and Epcot (in fact, I would bet that if I left my villa at the same time as someone at BWV, more times than not I bet I would get to MGM first if the buses are on schedule). My only point is that BWV and BCV do have locational virtues, but OKW is not as remote as most will have you believe.

Both resorts are great for different reasons, but when it comes to the room size debate,I look at it this way: my vacation is not my room. To me location and convience are the major factors. In May, we do more outside of Disney and enjoy being able to park our car right in front of our door rather then play parking lot lotto. In the fall we want Epcot resort area, in Dec we want VWL for decor and ease of boat ride into MK.

I think the BWV vs OKW debate really depends on the type of vacation you're looking for. I always have a more relaxed feel when I'm at OKW...the pace just seems slower. DH and I were there in January after having spent September through December taking care of his terminally ill mother, so relaxed was the way to go!

There have been times when I wanted a faster paced, more "in the thick of it" type of vacation, and consequently chose BWV. That's the beauty of the DVC...choices!!!!:)

but OKW is not as remote as most will have you believe.

Finally, someone has seen the light! I know some people will prefer one resort over another and some will never leave their home resorts, but the portryal of OKW as being located somewhere north of Jacksonville is misleading to many who might actually enjoy a stay in Conch Flats. Just as the insistence by some that the BWV room size is similar to that of a Lower East Side tenement is a disservice to that resort.

If you only come to WDW once a year for a week, I can see really wanting to be in the action every visit. But, I'm betting some folks may find that when they come to WDW 2-3 times a year for 10 or more years and stay closer to 2 or 3 weeks, that they just might really appreciate that golf course home that still gets them to Epcot for dinner in 15 minutes. ;)

I always like OKW-the convenience of parking right outside your door can't be beat.
But the pool--that poor excuse for a main pool!!! Only been in it twice since we became DVC members way back in 92'
Once on our very first visit, once when I was hot and tired after a workout. But other than that we always pool hop to a REAL pool.
So if swimming in a modern pool is of any concern, Boardwalk's Luna park is a "plus".

We own at both OKW and BWV. We usually do a big family trip (just found out we will have 2 more grankids for our 11/03 trip) every other year and OKW works very well for our large group
The room size is important to us for our family meals and just chilling time. We go to BWV when it is just DH and I. We generally go only to MGM and EPCOT so the walking feature is big to us then..
