BWV vs. BCV

If the boardwalk area is where you are interested in buying why would you choose BCV? I would thihnk that BWV would be the better buy since you can buy a re-sale cheaper at the BWV than what the BCV's are selling for. I don't own yet, but hope to in the very near future. I am contemplating where to make my home resort. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

A BWV resale is less expensive, you also get to have the opportunity to spend less points with a standard view room once in a while.

I don't think that either of these are enough to change where you should buy.

Have you visited both resorts? If you don't have a real preference, go for a resale. If you would rather stay in one over the other, buy there.

I think that BWV units having a boardwalk view, when you are lucky, BWV having lower point standard rooms, BWV being available through resale, and in my opinion, BWV being actually on the boardwalk rather than outback, make BWV more attractive.

Of course, they both pale in camparison with OKW.

We currently own at BWV but the closeout of the BCV from pool-hopping is the impetus for us to add-on there. Stormalong Bay is awesome and I would like to have the option of swimming there for at least a part of our stay which is why we are adding on there.

BWV has more activities at night which is why you might want to purchase there. Yes you can walk from BCV but after a long day in the park it might be a problem for some.

If you are tired, you can always take a boat from the BC pier to BW. We found it quite nice to take an extended boat ride in the evenings, moving from dolpin to YC to BW to Epcot, back to BW and so on. We would get off on BW and then stroll around at a leisurely pace. I haven't stayed at BW before - do the neon lights and activity bother anyone trying to get in an early night?

I like both the BWV and BCV but I prefer the BCV because:

1) BCV is a little quieter then BWV at night but if you want to walk over to the Boadwalk it is just a few minutes walk away.

2) Stormalong Bay

3) A like taking a nice stroll along the beach both in the early morning and late at night.

4) Cape May Cafe is excellent for both breakfast and Dinner.

5) BCV's have dedicated 2 bedroom Units. We have little kids and would like to have dedicated so that the kids get two seperate "regular" beds (not pull out sofas) and also so they don't have a seperate door to their bedroom that goes outside.

These are just my opinion!

These two resorts are som similar in so many aspects that it is very difficult to judge one better than the other.

But this:

5) BCV's have dedicated 2 bedroom Units. We have little kids and would like to have dedicated so that the kids get two seperate "regular" beds (not pull out sofas) and also so they don't have a seperate door to their bedroom that goes outside.

This kind of swings it back in the favor of BCV.

Then again, BWV has Grand Villas, BCV don't....but the point requirements for the BWV GV are so high.......which brings us back to OKW actually beating both of them out again.........

I just can't help it, I try, I really do. I try to give as honest opinions as I can when judging other resorts, but I always come to the inescapable conclusion, while the others are good, and certainly have their place....there's no place like home...there's no place like home....OKW just wins.

Peterpan,

"there's no place like home...there's no place like home....OKW just wins."

Disregard that man behind the curtain......................
( He really can't help it)

Back to the original question
BWV and BCV are both excellent choices. We considered buying BCV when we visited in Feb, but are going to look for BWV instead.
Both have:
excellent location, excellent restaurants and health clubs.
Both are/ or will be, hard to book in the 7 month window. Both are full service deluxe resorts, with all the hotel amenties that some of us enjoy.

BCV rooms are very nice. (They even have a DVD player, instead of a vcr.)
BCV has storm-along-bay

BWV has the entertainment right below you.
BWV has a great Community Hall w/free video games and other entertainment.
BWV has the standard view. Less points, (and still are great view of the fireworks.)

All in all they are very close and it will just come down to personal preference. No matter which one you buy, I am sue you will be VERY happy with your choice.

This will probably sound crazy to some, but we now own at BOTH and OKW is still my personal ALL TIME FAVORITE!

We took several things into consideration and since we are early baby boomers, we assume that our kids or grandkids will be the ones useing the last year of points and there will be something for everyone no matter what the age with these to locations and currently we have GK from 12-1 with 2 sons not yet married. So we get the pleasure of enjoying opposite years at each resort and their special features. But the biggest reason we made the decision of BCV over OKW was based on the number of rooms available and how difficult it would be to book rooms w/o the 11 month window. OKW has nearly double the number of units available and since we now have enough points b book a grand villa at BWV, with banking and borrowing for a weeks vacation if we choose, if we had to, we could split the family up between BWV and BCV and they would be close enough to walk from resort to resort, it made sense for us to buy BCV.

One further note is that we do not intend to use all the points on the kids, we have the freedom to book at many of the non peak seasons and at other non-disney destinations. It really comes down to what will work best for you and your families situation for the llength of time you own the points.

Just in case my DH reads this, I still plan on purchasing an OKW resale as part of my 5 year plan! LOL

BWV is the best. I keep trying to figure out why anyone, including Richyams, would want to buy anywhere else.

drusba,
Now, we have been told many, many times that OKW is the only true DVC resort, how could anyone even dare to suggest BWV is the best????? It is not even a true DVC resort after all!!
I think we should just 'fess up and say that BWV is a horrible, horrible resort, with terribly long 2+ mile walks to your villa, rooms so small that even Mickey himself could not move in, noise so loud that you can't hear yourself think, the guest parking lot is so far away it is located in Tampa, out of control children and guests running wildly through the long, long hallways and to top it off a villa so small that you only need to take 2 steps to cover the whole villa. On the plus side you can clean the whole kitchen and dining area (if you are into cleaning on your vacation) with a single paper towel and not even a Bounty extra strength paper towel is needed!!!!!
Why would anyone want to stay in such a substandard place? I think we should discourage any and all people from completely ruining their vacation and staying in the horrid BWVs. If they have reservations at this terrible resort they should call member services immediately and try to save their vacation and book at the one and only true DVC resort--OKW. I do often wonder if the self appointed power to be on this board has informed Disney that there is only one true DVC resort and that they are building all of these fakes! Disney could be accused of false advertising!!!

DeeP,

Love the tongue-in-cheek humor!

Maybe........just maybe.......... some day soon Rich will finally figure out how VERY tired most of us are getting with his "OKW is the only DVC worth a darn" rant.

I'm glad he loves his home-away-from-home. But why is he so forcible about telling us that we all made horrible buying choices and how our vacations must really stink since we aren't parking our cars next to his?

I guess an equally good question is why don't the board moderators tell him to "give it a rest"?

Because I think most people read my posts and enjoy my humor.

I think there are only a few people that take things seriously enough on an internet chat board to actually get upset.

I think most find my candor refreshing and thought provoking.

'fess up and say that BWV is a horrible, horrible resort

I have never said any such thing.

with terribly long 2+ mile walks to your villa,

I said 1.2 mile, don't go exagerating.

the guest parking lot is so far away it is located in Tampa,

Wow, I actually didn't know that, that is far.

out of control children and guests running wildly through the long, long hallways

I have never once mentioned noise in the hallways....I must assume you are speaking from experience.

a villa so small that you only need to take 2 steps to cover the whole villa

Maybe three long paces from the front to the back.

On the plus side you can clean the whole kitchen and dining area (if you are into cleaning on your vacation) with a single paper towel and not even a Bounty extra strength paper towel is needed!!!!!

I wish I would have thought of the Bounty part:mad:

Listen, I have a lot of fun with these boards. I hope, and I believe, that almost everyone reading my posts is having fun too. If I can offer some candid views and opinions and help someone make a more informed decision about their purchase, that is a bonus. I know of at least two people who canceled their original contracts with DVC and purchased different resorts as a direct result of reading my posts, I know one of them purchased BWV. I am proud of that. If one or two people felt their home resort was being insulted, I guess its the price we pay for candor and I know the two posters who canceled their contracts were happy for the information.

Richyams.... I will be honest, I am a very gulliable person, and the first few posts I read of yours awhile back, I thought you were just a real mean person. After reading a few more of your post I realized that although you do really love your home resort, you do just like to tease and now I acutally look foward to "what is Richyams going to say about this one?". I think these boards are very informative, I planned on buying BCV before these boards and I did buy it after these boards. I will also say that I have never seen OKW (except the drive by on the bus) and never even planned to see OKW until I read these boards, now I do plan to at least take a look.

I LOVE richyams posts!!!!! He has a great sense of humor. I always enjoy seeing what kind of comments he will make on a subject!! What he says is TRUE!! OKW rooms are bigger, they do cost fewer points, you can park outside your unit etc. BWV rooms are smaller, cost more points and there can be a long walk down a hallway. Disney purposely has made different styles of resorts so people can pick what will make them happy!! They are all great resorts!! I have seen many posts where people highly praise BWV resorts (deservedly so) and no one gets their nose out of joint over that!! For some reason richyams certainly gets bashed a LOT for giving his own personal opinion. So now you are wondering where I own points--well, I own at all three places--OKW, BWV and BCV! I am a "lucky duck"--and anyone who owns DVC points at any of the resorts is a "lucky duck" too! they are all wonderful!

Perfect!
Thank You Dee, but sorry it seems some still don't get it. It was great reading, we know how you feel, but it doesn't matter how much we post it, you know they have no answer except "Mine's bigger". So this is my last try at this, then I'm done, unless I see that stupid 25% bigger thing again.
We know Okw is for someone that likes to just relax and not do too much on vacation, (unless you want to get on the buses or use your car to go to the parks), and the BW/BCV/Wlv offer more exciting things. The nightlife, location, food choices, valet, room service, and so much more.
To each his own, but noone asked about the okw in this post.

"there's no place like home....OKW just wins."

What was the topic again BCV vs. BWV? I love this. Someone asks about the bWV and BCV, and someone says Okw is better. Call Monday, Okw has rooms, BW doesn't.. I wonder why? Someone should tell those dumb Bwers Okw wins, but it doesn't work, still no rooms. Brother in law for two years trying to trade into Disney, can only get into the Okw, I wonder? I guess they only offer the best resorts to the outside.

"I think most find my candor refreshing and thought provoking. "

Too funny! What else do you think people like about you? Would it be you telling them how many times you stay in a grand villa a year? That really doesn't impress us too much, just makes me wonder what could you possibly do in an Okw GV for 12 days? Our kids after two hours at the Okw are bored to tears. I can see how older people or people who like to be away from it all, could possibly like it. It is like home, But I'm on vacation away from home. I have a quiet pool at home on a lake, a short walk to the sound, with the ducks and other wildlife. Home Excellent wouldn't trade it for anything, vacation to do the same thing, Boring. When some of us go on vacation, it's usually to go away from home. To each his own though.

"Then again, BWV has Grand Villas, BCV don't....but the point requirements for the BWV GV are so high.......which brings us back to OKW actually beating both of them out again......... "

What was the topic again BCV vs. BWV? If you have never spent the points to stay at a Grand Villa at the Boardwalk, how can you give an opinion? Some People believe what they read, so if someone trashes a BW GV as not being worth the points, they might think that you had some sort of experience with this, and that you might have actually stayed in one. So the opinion is worthless, unless you actually tried it once. Once you do, there's no going back. So until you have actually stayed in a GV at the BW, I would think that you couldn't give a fair opinion of what it's like to stay in one.
Now, back on the original topic.
BCV best pool on site. Love the BWV, kids love the community hall. I would buy a resale at boardwalk but you can't go wrong with buying into the Beach club. Good luck with whatever you choose.

If I were purchasing a new contract it would be a tough decision between BWV and BCV. If you have young kids then BCV might win out over BWV. I would think they would enjoy SAB and the dedicated 2-bedrooms are a definite plus. Our daughters hate sharing a bed. But if you don't see those as advantages then it would be a toos-up. If you could find a great deal through resales then I would probably go for it. Just be sure to take all the cost into consideratin. You will have to pay closing cost on a resale. Also it is tough to find good financing on a resale.

Rich I enjoy your posts. When a subject comes up I often return a number of times looking for your response. It is amazing that you keep posting here after all the criticism you receive. It is interesting that you usually keep personalities out of the mix while others find it so difficult. I would find these boards awful boring without your occasional comment. Keep the humor coming!

AnnK, I love your comment about the man behind the curtain. Very Funny! :D

Richyams,

Keep up the "Great Posts", I would venture  to say the majority of people on these boards, get a good laugh:D from your posts. You are just stating true facts (dues, size, distance to walk, etc) If certain people can't appreciate a little laughter in their day, then they must not be very happy with their lives or their decision in buying BWV's. When someone makes fun of of OKW, I don't take it "personal":) , I just chuckle and move on to the next post:)
Back to the topic....I would think you wouldn't go wrong at either resort:D

You are just stating true facts (dues, size, distance to walk, etc) If certain people can't appreciate a little laughter in their day, then they must not be very happy with their lives or their decision in buying BWV's.

Yes, and when people post about BWV 's superior locaction, the great hotel amenities, 2 parks within walking distance, etc, and the fact the BWV is always harder to get into while OKW is almost always available, etc and the fact that OKW is in a remote location, with little to see except inept golfers on a golf course, has NO amenities except bringing your luggage to your room, if you ask, has only 1 restaurant on property and has only bus service (which is not even that good--the Value resorts have much better bus service than OKW!) to the parks....they are just posting true Facts also.
As far as people being very unhappy in their decision to buy at BWV, I think you have that backwards. It is a certain OKW owner that constantly bringsis OKW into a post whether OKW was asked about or not! I think it's this owner who has a constant need to justify their purchase and to do this they feel a need to put down the true superior DVC resorts--BWV, VWL & BCV.

As far as the 25% bigger rooms, etc etc, litany my response is:
BWV has a 100% better location, 99% better resort amenities(can't forget the luggage services you get IF you request it, at BWV a luggage service person greets you at the enterance to help with luggage, park your car etc), 100% better access to parks, 99% better selection of restaurants (can't forget the one restaurant and the snack bar), 100% better nighttime activities and entertainment and 100% better pool and pool slide. Like the old saying goes: "You get what you pay for", you want to pay less, you get less. You get bigger rooms but that is about it, you do not get any of the amenitites or conveniences that are usually associated with vacation. In all hotels the price is based on amenities not the size of the room, the more amenities and conveniences that are offered to guests the higher the price of the room. This is why the rental homes and condos within the WDW vicinity that are much bigger and nicer than OKW units have lower prices because they do not have the convenience of being on WDW property while OKW is, true it is a remote, away from everything location but it is still on WDW property so therefore demands a higher price. When alot of people go on vacation they want the amenities and want to be pampered and spoiled, (this is shown over and over in how quickly BWV books up) if they wanted a do it yourself vacation they could save alot of money and alot of paper towels and just stay home!

I think you illustrated our differences perfectly.

Your post came across to me as angry. I didn't laugh once.

Also, remember, "Truth is at the heart of all comedy" . The numbers I use are actually true. You use the 100%, 99% on qualitative judgements, kind of meaningless. And there IS luggage service at OKW. Humor is lost with the untrue.

I generally have two goals with my posting.

One is to have fun. I like having fun. I am always joking, anyone who knows me, knows that I rarely can be taken seriously.

Two, to convey facts. Anything I ever say is either very obviously my opinion..."OKW is the greatest place on earth" or its simply true. I am very proud of the fact that I have been responsible for people looking at and re-evaluating their decision about how they are going to buy into DVC.

And by the way

dsruba said:
BWV is the best.

I take offense to that, are you speaking for all people? Are you speaking for me? I think nasty things like that need to have disclaimers about it only being your opinion. Maybe the moderators can look into this and see if we can get dsruba out of this nasty habit or ban him.
