BWV view categories -- changes?

I remember reading that at one time in history, DVD changed the room categories at the Boardwalk Villas from one category (?) to two. That second category combines a boardwalk view and pool view and garden view. The cheaper category must be parking lot view or something.

Does anyone know if there is any consideration being given to changing it up again so that Boardwalk is its own separate category? It certainly seems to stand alone and is in such high demand. Would members get notice of this or would it just change then the notification goes out?

EDIT: there are 3 categories, but 2 are the same price. Any ideas if the pricing/pointing would change for those top two categories or why it wasn't done that way with the first change?

There are currently 3 views at BWVs. They are Standard , Boardwalk and Preferred (Pool/Garden). The BW and Prefered views cost the same number of points.

I can see that an argument could be made to make the BW views higher points then the Prefered view.

There are currently 3 views at the boardwalk, standard, garden/pool and boardwalk. The garden/pool view and the boardwalk costs the same amount of points as they are both considered preferred rooms, but when making reservations they are 2 separate categories.

The Boardwalk view is the same amount of points as the Pool/garden category, but it is it's own booking category. The lower number of point category is called "standard view." It is basically the entrance, road side of the building. However, if you get one of the longer walks, you really don't see the road as much as the water retention basin, and the tennis courts.

Your reservation will list the type of room you have.

I think I may have had one of these before, a studio. It was on the first floor and stepped onto grass and a tree or two. The grass sloped upward to the edge of the parking lot. I remember thinking it would be a nice room if you had kids. You could open the slider and let them run around the grass or kick around a ball.

The problem is there are so many preferred pool/water view rooms that Boardwalk would have to go up 8 points for every drop in the pool view category...

The split of the preferred pool/garden and boardwalk views came around 2003 or 2004 when they decided to go to a "room ready" room assignment system. You would be assigned a room that was ready when you checked in or you could come back later to see if something better was available. I talked to member satisfaction at the time because I was upset because when I bought I was told that requests were assigned based on the date of the reservation. So BWV members who booked at 11 months would have priority for the boardwalk view rooms. Main reason I bought there. So I guess they got alot of feedback and decided to go to the boardwalk view booking category where you would know upfront what you were getting. I think to avoid chaos at the front desk. It's only fair since BWV members pay the highest dues on property.

I don't believe it is that extreme.

It's been said that the resort is approximately 20% Standard View, 20% BW View and 60% Pool / Garden View.

If accurate, lowering the cost of every Pool / Garden room by 1 point per night would allow for an increase of 3 points per night on every BW view room. That's an oversimplification, of course, but I suspect some change is not only feasible but warranted.

If the Treehouse Villas at SSR deserved an increase due to high popularity, I highly suspect the same is true of the BW View rooms at BWV.

When BWV opened in 1996, there were no view categories and all rooms had the same point structure. There were loud complaints about those rooms which are now considered standard. Early on, they actually redid the offering statements and total points and divided the resort into preferred and standard view with standard having the lower point cost. It was about 2003 when they divided the preferred into boardwalk and pool/garden view with points the same but no changes were made to the official documents and that was just a change in method of reserving through MS and to assure the request for boardwalk view would be met. Later DVD did a similar change at OKW for rooms near the Hospitality House.

Don't know whether they will ever try to make boardwalk view higher than others. They have the issue that, unlike when changes were made at SSR (when it increased TH and decreased other categories), BLT (when they changed some rooms from MK view to standard), and AKV (changed some from savanna to standard view), there is no existing catgory in the official documents for boardwalk view or preferred pool/garden view to apply the change to; there is just preferred and standard view.
