My family was planning on going to disney next may (17-24). There are just two adults and two kids (6 and under). What are the pros and cons to the studios/1-bedrooms? I see that the 1-bedrooms are pretty much twice the points, I just wondered if it was worth it?

It really depends on a few things:

1) how much room/privacy do you want?
2) do you care to have a full kitchen? do you plan on cooking and having a lot of groceries?
3) would you like to have a washer and dryer in room?

The one bedroom is much more roomy and is just like a one bedroom aparatment where as a studio is like a regular hotel room with a mini kitchen. Ask yourself the question above and if you do want more room/privacy, a full kitchen, and a W/D then figure if its worth the extra points for you

Good luck

so the studios don't have a washer/dryer? we are planning on getting the dining plan, so I don't know that we will NEED a full kitchen, but the extra space might be nice on the days that we don't make it to the parks?

One reason we always get 1 BRs-2 TVs. DH wants to watch sports 24/7.

I have done both (my kids are 4 & 6) now and to be honest - we would rather have the extra points than the other bedroom...but the other bedroom is nice!

I think the biggest question is how much time will you spend in the room...we always go early and stay late and my kids have always napped wherever they are so we aren't in the room that much. We try to go to bed at the same time as the kids so we have as much energy as them in the morning (not that it ever works ;))

I figure with the studio we can go more often!

A studio is nothing but a glorified hotel room. A one bedroom is a nice vacation.

Studios do not have a washer and dryer in the villa, but you have access to a washer and dryer somewhere in the resort.

Studio - either two queen sized beds (OKW only) or one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa

One bedroom - one king sized bed and one queen sleeper sofa

Studio - tub/shower combo

One bedroom - separate jacuzzi tub and stand alone shower in two different rooms.

Studio -kitchenette with microwave, toaster, undercounter refrigerator

One bedroom either full sized kitchen (OKW) or galley style kitchen, both with refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher

The main reason I bought DVC was for the 1 or 2 bedrooms. The main perks:

1. putting DS to sleep and being able to watch TV, read a book or do whatever in the living room without worrying about waking him.

2. washer/dryer - we did a load of laundry every day (easy to do with 2 toddlers on a trip)

3. kitchen - again, with 2 toddlers, having breakfast and dinner in the room daily was a lifesaver.

Before I bought DVC, I did rent a studio and stay there with DNiece and DNephew (and DH). The kids were 8 and 10 on the trip. It was fine - but overall there was not much space, and the room was just for sleeping. If you want any more than a place to sleep out of a room, a 1 bedroom is much better.

I vote 1 bedroom........I agree that we bought DVC for the space, kitchen, laundry, space, space, and space. Since owning we have not stayed in anything smaller than a 1 bedroom. My DW, who is not a huge Disney fan, absolutely loves the room and functionality of the villa. But I also understand that planning point usage and staying in a studio can extend a WDW visit....

Heck, in your situation, I'd even be tempted to get a 2 bedroom!

One bedrooms are SOOOO much nicer than studios with little kids. THEY can turn in early, and YOU can stay up with your sweetie!

We never do the dining plan. Too much food before, and not enough of a good deal now. We have breakfasts and snacks in the rooms, some lunches, and get the DDE card for 20 percent discounts on our sitdown meals.

We do studios as bookends on longer trips. But Sunday through THursday, we're are in a 1 bedroom or larger!

I would go for the 1 or 2 bedroom. It's nice to be on vacation with your children, but it's great to have privacy - or even give them privacy! Can't complain about the King size bed and the Jacuzzi tub either :thumbsup2

A studio has a queen bed and a pullout. A one bedroom will have a king bed in the bedroom and a pullout in the living room.

I don't like the pullout in the studio - strangely, I don't mind it being open in the one bedroom - probably because in the one-bedroom we treat it like a pullout - pull it out in the evening, put it away for the day. In a studio it stays open and messy all the time.

Cannot share a room with my kids-thought I could now that they were getting a little older, but stayed at CBR(ran out of points- took too many trips LOL) for a week last August(they werealmost 6 and 8), NEVER again. I don't want to go to bed when my kids go to bed, I don't want to have to be quiet and sit there with the lights out waiting for them to finally go to sleep.

1 bedroom all the way.

Studio is fine with just me and DW. When my daughter went with us we did a 1 BDR. When my son and his GF where added in we did a 2 bdr.

I find having the extra space of a 1 bdr over a studio is significant. There is more privacy, more relaxing and lounging room. The washer/dryer is also a big plus, helps keep fresh towels available. The full kitchen with the full size refrigerator is also a big bonus, even if you don't plan on cooking that much. You have an oven and a stove if you do want do something besides microwave.
