BWV Std view vs. BW view

Hmmm... I was all set to start reserving my std view 2 br at the 11 mos window in a few weeks, and then they had to throw me this curveball!

I chose std view b/c I figured the BW view was truly no guarantee, and if my options were possibly a canal /TOT view or front entry / Illuminations view, etc. -- I didn't see the justification between those views that would be worth the 52 points for 8 nights. We would then put the "saved" pts towards our stay in a 1 br at BCV that follows (staying 4 nts there instead of just 2! :) )

But this new reservations policy sure changes things.

So tell me -- IF (I wouldn't do the waitlist thing, probably -- too messy. I like a more sure thing!) IF... they have a BW view, do I go for it? What if, on day 4 out of 10 days, they don't (I'll call day-to-day for our trip). Too late probably to get a std at that point!
On the other hand, though -- calling day to day, as an owner, first thing... surely I have a shot?

So... Is a BW view in a 2br WORTH the 52 points? Is it so great that I'd rather look at it for 8 days than spend 2 extra days at BCV?

Be honest, BWV experts!!

For me, yes the Boardwalk view would be worth the extra points, but you're talking to someone who owns 700. You kind of have to decide that part for yourself.

As far as possibility of getting it, I think whichever you decide you want, you will get calling day-by-day. If you think about it, from what we've all been told, it's about the same percentage of rooms in Boardwalk view and standard view. You should have an equal shot at either one.

I'm in the same boat. I bought in 1999 and on my first trip in 2000 I booked preferred with a boardwalk view request at 11 months. Didn't get it, got quiet pool. Since I don't have alot of points to work with, I booked standard view the past 2 years. We were on the 3rd or 4th floor across from the bus stop and had a view of Illuminations fireworks. Now that I could be guaranteed boardwalk view, I may try for it next year. Starting to get add on fever....;)

Our points are limited...we really need more....and though I've splurged on preferred view points in the past (hoping for a BW view and getting it both times) at this point I feel like I've btdt and will save my points. It helps that the standard view room we got last time was absolutely incredible.

I guess if you've never had a BW view and you're really interested in it, its worth looking into. I don't think I'd take it over a guaranteed standard view if they only have some of your days available as BW view though. I just don't like having things up in the air.

We are trying to decide whether we want to book a BW view for our next trip or our usual standard and we will probably go with the standard. For one reason, we LIKE the standard views. We enjoy how nice and quiet it is. I love the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk, but I also enjoy being on the flip side and away from it when I am trying to sleep at night. Some day we will try out the BW view but only when we have extra points and are looking to spend them. Right now we can spend the points on additional days so we will take the standard view.

All this talk about BW view vs. Std view has got my interest piqued. We're staying in a 1-BR Std view for 7 days in a few weeks time and I'm curious what to expect. I've stayed at OKW with no spectacular views and at VWL with no spectacular view. Is the Std view at BWV that bad? Am I getting worked up over nothing?

There are more preferred view rooms than standard. Below is the info MS e-mailed me many months back in response to my request. I am sending an e-mail now to ask if they can break down the preferred view to let me know how many are BW preferred.

Standard View
Studios 22% of total 241 studios
One Bedrooms 23% of 272 total one bedrooms
Two Bedrooms 25% of 145 two bedrooms
Grandvillas - all preferred view

For me, I would love the view but can seem to part with the extra points. I will however have it for our GV trip next year. I hope it doesn't spoil me.
