We're considering a BWV Studio for later in the year and noticed that it seems to be the only resort w/ different point requirements for either a "Preferred" or "Standard" room. Can anyone provide insight as to the difference between the two....is it strictly location, or somehting else??

Also, any thoughts on BWV vs. BCV would be appreciated. Our kids are 6 and 4, in case someone has thoughts on which one might be better w/ young children.

Thank you,
Jeff

BWV standard view will be on the front side of BWV as you come up the driveway. we get these all the time because of the low pts. they face the parking lot but the views are really good.

BWV preferred view will be 2 types but use the same amount of pts:
1-- pool or garden-- views of the pool or waterway facing Swan/Dolphin and grassy area between the BWV and BWI out back doors.

2--boardwalk view-- all rooms facing boardwark

BCV has SAB pool for the kids but is very spread out so watch your children.

BWV has luna pool and easier to watch children

both have slides

others will tell you more>

At the BWV it is based on location. The standard view rooms overlook the entrance way and parking lot. The preferred view are divided between Boardwalk view and pool and garden view. The Boardwalk view is a guaranteed reservation.

Here's a link to a great location map created by Granny.

HBC...thanks for the kind comments, as always.

I've actually updated the map based on feedback I've heard on these boards. Evidently, SV now extends the entire length of the building facing the tennis courts/parking lot.

I also added a disclaimer that it's not an "official" map by any means. :)

I'll post it on the next post in case anyone wants to bookmark a "clean" post.

Thanks for the map granny:goodvibes

headed to BWV in april.....wonder where i'll wind up:confused3

OP.....I would pick BW....with 2 young children stormalong bay is
VERY spread out.....
to get to the slide you have to leave the pool complex and walk
across the "street" to get there....

your 6yr old will probably love the slide.....but the adult watching them
will be very tired....walking to the slide and up the stairs a hundred
times:lmao:
Happy Planning

While I don't know where it stops exactly, I don't think the entire canal side is SV. It hasn't been in the past and they can't just generate SV units due to the points structure.

Dean...I think that before they demolished the small building and put in the croquet lawn, many of those rooms used to be designated SV. Likewise, the PV-Water/Garden used to "wrap" around the south end of the building and went one or two villas along that edge.

When they created the croquet lawn and much better view, they switched those rooms to PV Water/Garden and evidently swapped them with those villas on the south edge of the building. So they "broke even" when swapping the room designations.

That's all anecdotal of course...as reported by posters on this site.

One last caveat...evidently there are some lower floor rooms that look out at the "back side" of the Luna Park pool slide that are designated as SV. That is as reported recently by at least on DISer.

It seems that BWV SV/PV is an ongoing project, though I agree that in total they can't grow one category in total.

I know we've seen complaints from a couple in the last few years, after the building was gone, where they had a canal view that was designated preferred. I suspect one of the problems with this issue is that they may float some of the rooms depending on inventory and availability. Thus one may get a preferred view and another get the same room later designated as SV.

We've had a Standard View room in the pool area as well. It faced the back of Leaping Horse Libations. The view was only partially restricted with enough of the pool area visible to make it reasonably pleasant overall. It was just steps away from the fitness center and the doors out to the pool and the boardwalk which made it very convenient.

I have this same suspicion, but without specific evidence I was hesitant to float the hypothesis. I guess I'll need to add a caveat when I post that map.

Given the number of people who post here who stay in BWV SV rooms, I'm surprised we haven't heard more stories like this. It almost seems to support Dean's thoughts about the "flexible" designation of rooms. I agree with you that I would have no problem using SV points for the room you describe. Was that a lower level room as well?

I think they are sort of flexible myself, which is why Disney doesn't comment or have an official list - I think those Village Green rooms have been reported either BW or Preferred - generally the ones close in seem to be preferred, and the ones on the corner BW, but I'm sure I've seen cases where its been switched.

To the OP. 20% of the resort is Standard View. These rooms are very popular with owners because they are one of the great DVC bargains. Boardwalk Views are another 20% of the resort. They are also very popular with owners since you are guaranteed what a lot of people think is a fantastic view. 60% of the resort is "preferred view" and if anyone prefers a preferred view room - I've never heard of it. So you may not have a choice depending on when you are able to book - for instance, it will be nearly impossible to get anything other than Preferred View for F&W unless you can call at least ten months out.

Our own preference is standard view than boardwalk view than preferred view - unless we have guests we wish to impress - than its boardwalk view than standard view than preferred view.

Thank you so much for posting the map. We are staying for the first time in July in a Standard view room and I was afraid we were going to see the roof of another building, but with the number of points we are saving I thought it was worth it.

Keep in mind that the map is from an older photo that still shows the building at the northern end of the resort (canal side). That building is now gone and replaced with a nice croquet lawn and landscaping.

So you shouldn't have to worry about looking at rooftops. Evidently, we can't rule out the back of slides or pool bars though! :)

Well, there is the "gutter view" If you are very close to the lobby, you see the roof of the entrance if you look left.

crisi....yeah, I was glossing over that one since it really is only one 2BR villa on the top two floors of BWV SV.

Yes it was a ground floor room. We stayed there in early December and spent a lot of time out of the room, touring the parks and lots of resorts to look at the holiday decorations. So the view didn't matter to us that much on that trip. My DH used the fitness center several times so it was handy being so close!

Thank you to all for all of the good information! A quick follow up question on something several of you have brought up....do Preferred and Boardwalk require the same number of points? If so, and I rent enough points for preferred, is there any way to ensure that you get a Boardwalk room, or is it simply based on availability when the owner calls to make the reservation? That said, has anyone found that the Boardwalk view rooms too loud late in the evening? Just don't want the kids to have trouble getting to sleep if there's a lot of noise from the Boardwalk.

Thank you.

Dean, I don't know anything about a canal view, but I had a swamp view room that was just awful and it was considered a "preferred" view room. In was in the back towards MGM. I would have preferred a parking lot.
