We've got a BWV Standard Studio for 9 days next March and we'd actually prefer to face the Swan/MGM canal. Are there such units and how would we go about requesting one?

Thanks,
Bill From PA

I don't think that would be a Standard view.

Request a villa down by the tennis courts, that will give you the S/D canal view.
It is a long walk from the elevators but the view is worth it.
Have a great trip!

What you are requesting sounds like a preferred view - water view.

We had standard view rooms in May and ours faced the valet parking lot, but you could see the canal if you looked to your right. Mostly we looked at the shrubs blocking our view of the pond since they were pretty high and we were ground floor. My daughter had a standard room also and she faced the driveway of the cars driving to and from the entrance, she was also on the ground floor, but could spend time sitting on her patio car watching if she choose to.

We have preferred view booked at BWV this August and I was told it will be either pool or garden view.

Is canal view also preferred view?

We had the view you are looking for and it was preferred, not standard.
When I stayed in a standard studio, it overlooked the parking lot and entrance.

Thanks for all the info. I should have been more clear in my post. I'm really only interested in being in that wing so we can high-tail over to Swan in the morning to catch the bus to MK and AK in the event we're unhappy with the BW bus service. The actual view doesn't matter.

When we were at BWV last October, the bus going to MK and AK stopped at BW first, then went to the Swan. I am not sure how going to the Swan would help if you were unhappy with the bus service. Also, you will need to use the bridge to get to the Swan, which connects near Jellyrolls, so a room at that end is actually closest to the Swan.

Now, if you have a SV room that is near the tennis courts, you could walk to MGM and catch the park busses from there. You should note that, although the walk to MGM might not be bad, the busses from there are on the other side of the entrance and will add to the walk considerably.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

Bill - If you check out this map you'll be able to see how the villas are situated in reference to the canal.

I think if you ask to be near one of the stairwells in the first four sections listed on the resort map, you'll be pretty close to the walkway leading to the Swan and Dolphin. But honestly, if not, it really isn't as long of a walk or as big of a hassle as some people make it out to be.

Plus, as the previous poster has said, if you're in the area closer to the adult pool, you can head out that stairwell and already be halfway to MGM. That's pretty convenient, too.

I didn't think this was an everyday thing. On rare occasions we've been on one bus that stopped at all 5 Epcot resorts, and once or twice this March there were folks already on the AK or MK bus when it got to Swan, but usually it was empty in the morning and only serviced S/D. Obviously we'd be better off catching it at BW if that's the first pick-up, but my impression was that in a busy time such as March, S/D had their own bus for the majority of the day and that Swan was the first served. I'll have to hop over to the Transportation board and see if Chip'n Dale can shed some light.

CRSNDSNY, that's a great site, thanks for the link.

Bill, there are no standard view rooms in that area. They are all on the other side of the bldg. to the best of my knowledge...facing the entry way.
As far as the buses go, they really do stop at BW first. The BW, S/D route is pretty much set in stone...at least for getting to the parks. Now, I have gotten off the bus at S/D and walked over to BW in the past...that can be quicker since they drop them off first. And in the middle of the day, the buses sometimes combine with YC/BC, making it a lot faster to get off at S/D stops and walk to BW.

since S/D are not disney owned I don't think the Disney buses would service just them.

It's usually BW/S/D or BW/S/D YC/BC

Bill, two years ago we stayed in either 4012 or 4013 (can't remember which one, even or odd) and it was exactly what you are looking for. It was a preferred view with a great view of the canals and the Swan/Dolphin and an okay view of the Tower of Terror. It was a long walk from the elevators but after our initial walk we only used the end staircase which let's out right behind Jellyrolls. It was a quick walk to the Friendship dock and to the Swan bus stop. Both gave us good options for getting to all of the parks, attractions and the Boardwalk and was a shorter walk than all the way back out to BW bus stop, and on the way home it was usually an earlier stop. I assume that each floor would have the same numbers. Someone else might know off the top of thier heads which side of the hallway is even and which is odd. I think one side was Boardwalk view and one side was a preferred view. Good luck!

He has a standard view, so he wouldn't be on that hallway at all.

I had a standard 1 bedroom and we faced the Swan. We were in room 4010. Now this was in Jan 2004, so maybe it has changed since they removed the DVC offices from that section and put in the croquet court. We were NOT upgraded. I specifically asked when we got our room and was told that some of these rooms were standard.

Ditto.

Our room was either 3001 or 3002 and it was a Standard View 1B. I assume the room was classified as Standard View due to the old sales center. We stayed there in mid-2005 and the sales center was gone by then. Doesn't seem like DVC could arbitrarily re-classify units, so I suspect that series of rooms that formerly had obscured views has remained Standard View.

IMO it was a pretty crappy location--far from the lobby/elevators, far from Epcot, far from MGM. The one thing it was close to was the Dolphin / Swan.

Still I agree with the others about the bus routes. In 3 stays at the BW, I've never been on a bus that had already been to either the Dolphin or Swan. BW was always the first stop (other than during park closing time when the routes seemed to vary. :confused3 )

The only standard studio I've ever stayed in at BWV was facing a parking lot & front entrance of the resort -- 3085.

Here is our view:
