BWV room request suggestions?

I'm leaving in two weeks for our first stay in a BWV. We have a standard 1 bedroom reserved. Other than this being a "cheap" stay, point-wise, I know nothing about what to expect with our room. I've heard the hallways are long. That's fine. I'm more concerned with having a cool view, if that's possible with a standard. So, besides requesting a high floor, any suggestions on what to ask for?

If you don't mind the long hallways, I'd request far from elevator. The standards overlook the driveway and the parking lot. The further from the elevator the closer to the parking lot, however there is a treed lawn area and a little pond with a fountain in the middle of it BEFORE the parking lot. The view isn't all that bad. As far as the driveway view, again there is a treed lawn area, you are not on top of the driveway, I've never noticed road noise on the driveway views either. We usually get standard views and I've never been disappointed at one. I'd like to try staying on the first floor, as you have a little patio outside the door instead of a balcony, then the lawn area. It looks pretty from the outside, I wonder how I'd like to stay in one. We've never stayed on the first or second floors, always three and higher. I always request non smoking as DH suffers from asthma, and I have had medical issues in the past and prefer to stay away from second hand smoke, not to mention no need to expose my kids to it. I hope will enjoy the BW. We really love it. The long hallways never bothered me either, some don't like them. At least when it's really hot or raining out you are inside instead of walking an outdoor complex.

Good luck, and have lots of fun.

When I've stayed in standard view, I always requested top floor, across from the bus stop. You get a great view of Illuminations fireworks.

We have reservations in October for a 2 bedroom, preferred view. The confirmation came and says the same words plus the words
Boardwalk view -----
We have never stayed at the BWV -
so who has advise for us when checking in -

What do we ask for ? :cool1:

I like to request top floor, you don't hear the noise from the boardwalk as much.

We've never had a location request met at BW. I'd request your smoking preference and have low expectations for any other request.

First floor is very convient to the pool - which we like for ease with the kids, who spend a lot of timein the pool. The views are better higher and farther from the elevator - particularly with BW View, but the rooms are less convienent to the lobby and you'll walk more.

I've been pretty lucky. The only time I didn't get either the top floor or the one below was last year when I got 2nd floor above the Big River. My 3 other boardwalk views were 4th or 5th. I usually check-in on Saturday, that may help. The time with the 2nd floor, I checked in on Sunday.

We own at BWV, book 11 months out day by day, and request top floor with an open balcony. We don't even care if it's a smoking or non smoking room, we just want an open balcony! We have NEVER had our room request met in 6 years! We have honestly had the SAME room every year. It is on the second floor over the store. Not a bad room by any means, but we really used to (before DVC) enjoy sitting on our balcony and having a drink while we people watch. When you sit on the enclosed balconies you are looking at a wall, so you have to stand to see the boardwalk. It used to really irritate me, now our family finds it mildly amusing. I just wish they would rail in the balconies (instead of solid wall) at BWV so you could sit down and see. Is that too much to ask? Anyways, the moral of my rant is ... You can ask for anything you want in the way of room requests, but I sure wouldn't expect it. :flower3:

MickeyLover6: I actually prefer those rooms on the boardwalk with the enclosed balconies and in almost ten years and about 25 trips I have gotten that request three times and otherwise always got the open balcony; maybe if we start requesting the opposite, we will get what we prefer.

dvc at last!: your ressie shows you are guaranteed a boardwalk view, the best there is, so you really do not have to request anything else.

Juliet25: you have standard and have requested high floor, all those rooms are fine. As to the "long walk" that is greatly overblown; from elevator to the particular rooms that are furthest from the elevator, the walk is about 90 seconds, normal pace.

We were there in March and must have had the same room as you - second floor, right over the store. I couldn't believe it! What is the point of a Boardwalk view if you can't SEE it???
I will definitely be asking for an open balcony the next time.

Okay, we just booked the Boardwalk for the first time! We've never even been near this resort. We reserved a preferred view, but I think they told my husband it was a pool view. Does this sound right? Is the boardwalk view more points? My kids will be 13, 8, and 3.5. Any suggestions for requests? At the SSR we stayed at a building across from the main floor and loved being close to the pools and food court. We avoided the first floor because we thought it would be more noisy. I'm up for any recommendations on requests I should make. This will only be our second DVC stay.

Boardwalk view is just what it says and garden/pool view is what it is, they are both considered preferred view and they are the same points.

When we made reservations we asked for preferred view,
not standard view. Yes, it is more points !
:cool1:

Can hardly believe we are using all those points, but gotta do it atleast
once to experience it. Just might love it over the standard view !

You do know that preferred view isn't Boardwalk View? Boardwalk View and Preferred View are the same number of points, but Boardwalk View is a guaranteed category.

A lot of people will take Boardwalk View over Standard View if available. But you'd be the first I've heard of that will take Preferred View over Standard View.

(Oxymoronically, preferred view rooms are the least preferred by most people).

I just got back and had a standard view one bedroom #5075. Funny, we actually had the same room in January. It is very close to the elevators (I think 4 doors down). It has a pretty decent view of the fireworks too. I enjoyed this room both times, but I do actually prefer the rooms a little farther from the elevator because they tend to have better fireworks views. Have a great trip!
