I hope this forum is the right/best place to post these questions! We will be staying 5 nights in a 2BR at BWV at the end of Jan. (My in-laws, my husband, our 4 1/2 year old ds and 21 month old dd.) I'm going to add some requests to our ressie this week, like bedrails for ds, etc., and I have a few other Q's.

I do realize nothing on a room request is guaranteed, but I can always ask, and I am a bit Type A :)
I've recently read that BWV now has some "dedicated" 2BR's. What is the advantage/disadvantage vs a studio/1BR with a lock-off? We figured the in-laws would be in the studio and we would be in the 1BR, with one kid probably wanting to sleep with Gram and Pop in the studio. Would one or the other be better for me to ask for, or is it not that big of a deal to worry about?

We will be coming back for naptime most days around noon (good thing we're early risers, by default!), so should we ask for a "quieter" room, esp with all I'm reading about construction noise? We'll be putting the kids to bed fairly early most nights, as well. I do have a "white noise machine" that I'll bring, which covers a lot of noise. I've used it in hotels before.

I don't think we are *too* worried about distance from the elevator, so I think we'll leave that alone. Although you never know, we haven't had a lot of swimming weather in Jan in the past, so I also don't think we need to ask for any certain proximity to the pool in terms of that.

Finally, are there any certain areas/rooms that have better views of IllumiNations? We won't be able to stay out late enough to see it most nights with the little ones, except for the night we have a pontoon booked for it, so it would be nice to see some of it from our room or balcony once the kiddos are asleep. If not, I'm sure dh and I can get out ourselves and leave the il's with them

Thanks for your indulgence! What would *you* ask for if you were me? Be nice, now, this is my first time staying in a BWV and my first post in this forum :) Now that I'm writing it all out, it seems that maybe the quiet area is the biggest deal, although in my mind beforehand I was thinking IllumiNations was the most important.

If there are any other factors you think I should consider, please feel free to add them. If you've had experience with room requests of this sort, I'll appreciate your advice on that, too.

Thanks!
Shel

I don't believe there are any dedicated 2 bedrooms at BWV. What type room view do you have reserved - boardwalk view, pool/garden or standard?

Sorry, I forgot that part :) It's preferred (pool/garden I believe) view.

It may be so that there are no dedicated 2BR's but I did read recently on another thread (probably another forum, too - Rsorts Forum maybe?)that there are a few now, maybe something to do with the construction? I don't know. I plead ignorant, other than what I read, and now that I can't seem to see a way to search forums I'm not sure I'd be able to find that post....

Thanks again!

None of the 2 bedrooms at BWV are dedicated units, whatever you read its a falacy. In the official documents from BWV (and I bought after the 19 units were added from DVC) there are no 2 bedroom dedicated units listed. Also, if my information is incorrect and there will be a few BWV dedicated units from the construction, those units won't be ready for occupancy until June 2005, so not available for your stay.

With a pool/garden view a view of Illuminations is going to be hard to come by. Most of those rooms, over look the area directly opposite where Illuminations goes off. If you ask for a Village Green view, you'll get a partial view of the BW and maybe some of Illuminations, but that's it. Otherwise, you'll be overlooking either of the pools, or the canal between the BW and S/D resort. Some of the rooms farther from the elevators (in the pool/garden category) have a view of the fireworks from Fantasmic, but that's about it. The 2 bedroom lock-off will be exactly what you stated, a one bedroom and studio joined together. So, they'll be two exit doors and the studio portion will have the kitchenette.

Keep in mind that the more you ask for, the less likely you are to get what you want....

When we checked in last October, not a single one of our requests were met....keep that in mind as well. And we checked in early in the day.

But here are some popular requests:

High Floor (better chance of seeing fireworks - although few are available from any of the preferred view rooms) or Low Floor (easier to skip the 'vators for the stairs).

Smoking or Non-Smoking

Luna Park or Quiet Pool (in January this probably won't be much of an issue) or Village Green or the Garden/Canal. The Village Green rooms are basically a BW View - but their are very few of them.

Non Handicapped (Handicapped rooms with have a roll in shower and no tub in the studio - not a big deal to us - we stick the kids in the Jacuzzi - but a lot of people really don't like handicapped rooms).

Close to the elevators (those halls can be long).

FYI, we found BW to be fairly noisy (we had a BWView room). When the fireworks from Fantasmic stopped, the fireworks from Illuminations started. Then there was the BW noise (probably not a problem at the other end of the resort.

Word is that some of the units at the BWV that used to be in the old sales area are being converted to dedicated 2BR's but nothing official has been put out on this yet. Since those won't be ready by the time you are visiting, that shouldn't be a concern for you, at least not on this trip.

Interesting rumor. I hope they put a dedicated 2 bedroom in where the sales center was facing the Boardwalk, that way I know I will not get it when I reserve a 1 bedroom (I think that would be a bad location).

Thank you all for your input. I'll take it all into account when I make my request! IN terms of the dedicateed vs studio+1BR, it sounds like the studio + 1BR is what we'd want anyhow, so that's good. One more thing - does it matter *when* you make your request, as far as you know? I was thinking sooner than later even though we aren't going for almost 2 months, but maybe since this is a busy time it would be better to wait till after the holidays?

I would get your request in at least a week before your trip. They tend to pre-assign rooms at BWV, but not more than a few days out.

Doesn't it say something on the DVC member website about room requests ONLY being done through MS now? I think it said not to contact the resort and that only requests made through MS will be honored to be fair to all members. It's in the what's new section at the bottom. I don't know how true it is, but it's there! Hope you have a great time!
