Hi! We were recently at BWV. We requested a boardwalk view. We were fortunate enough to get this, however, it was the second floor over the shops and we could not see from our balcony if we were sitting. (We also requested top floor) It is VERY inportant to us to be able to sit on the balcony and see out because we have small childrn that go to bed after the fireworks and then we get some time to sit and relax. I know this may sound petty, but enjoying the view is really important to us! We used points for a PV, but would rather have had a SV with a decent balcony. Of course they had NO other rooms available when we inquired. Does anyone know what we should request next time when we book at 11months out? Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm afraid you're not going to like what I have to say. If you'd rather have standard view unless you get that perfect room, always book standard view. There is no way to know and the only way I can think of to improve your chances is to book a 3 BR GV. Realize that the preferred view is really a misnomer. Think of BWV as standard view and non standard view. That way you'll not be disappointed when you get a view of the canal or the quiet pool. Those that think preferred view means it's anything special are going to be disappointed most trips.

This is a good tip for exchanges also. Timeshares in general tend to clasify units on the basis of location rather than actual view. That means that an ocean front unit may have a great view of the sidewalk and maybe the landscaping. An oceanside unit may have a glancing view of the ocean or it may have had that view before the trees were addes but no more. Garden view often means parking lot view or the like. Mountain view usually means you get a view of the other building, parking lot or the strip mall across the street. That's the reason I always suggest people check out any resort before they accept it, especially exchanges. This happens at DVC where someone books at VB and gets a garden view room at a special rate when they thought they were getting an ocean view or at BWV as described earlier.

Your right, I don't like your answer since it didn't respond to my question AT ALL! I didn't quite understand why the long dissertation for such a simple question! I was merely asking for suggestions on what to request to help make it more likely that we get a patio we can sit on AND see over. As I stated in my original QUESTION, we feel very fortunate to have received a boardwalk view, we know there are no guarantees to receiving exactly what is asked for. However, doesn't it make more sense to at least TRY to get a room that is "perfect" to meet our needs? Chances are good it won't happen, but I'd rather be a little more proactive in my room requests than just leave it all up to fate. Hopefully someone will help answer this QUESTION if they have experienced this same problem and if they found a way to request something different.

Can't we all just get along?
No reason to get masty here.
Just give others a chance to respond and I am sure you will get the reply you are looking for.
This has been a very nice community to have talks and get questions answered. Don't jump on the first attempt.
Thanks for hearing me out.
Have a Magical Day....

I think your best bet would be to call the room controller or front desk and discuss it. I'm not sure they even distinguish between types of balconies when assigning rooms. I've seen them look into a binder to see room locations, it just shows squares down the hall.

There are 2 types of balconies at BWV - either fully open or covered/enclosed. It sounds like you had a covered one. One thing to think about - we had a covered one last December and were fortunate because we have several days of rain, we could at least sit out on the balcony. If we would have had an open one we would have been drenched.

Request a room with an open balcony.
Yep, that will do it. The CMs do have notations of which rooms have a open balcony vs an enclosed balcony and if a room with this is available, they will be more than happy to give it to you.

Maybe I misunderstsood. I thought you were asking how to guarantee a view and there's no way to do it. I also thought you were saying you paid preferred view points and that you didn't really get what you expected. Did I misunderstand on both points? I did answer both of those question.

Thank you!!!! I didn't know how to word this so the room controller would understand. "A balcony that you can't see off of, if you sit down" just seems like a lot to put on a request! (LOL) I will know next time to ask for a "fully open balcony".
Dean, I think you did misunderstand. I know there are no guarantees and don't expect perfection. That only leads to disappointment, and would make a vacation pretty miserable. Believe me, miserable is the LAST thing I ever am or want to be!! I do apologize if I came off nasty, I just really wanted to know how to word that. I totally understand the point you were making, and do agree with you 100%.

okay correct me if wrong - but aren't all the smoking rooms on the 2nd floor - if you need a smoking rooms I don't think you have a choice.

I thought the same thing! According to the CM this is not true????? This was a non smoking 2 bedroom we were in on the second floor! I don't know if they have smoking rooms on upper floors or not??? I know now that they do have non smoking rooms on the second floor though. It was a great room too, it was only the closed balcony that we didn't like. However, as pointed out earlier in this toic, it did have its advantages when it rained!:)

That is correct - the only smoking rooms are on the 2nd Floor.

However, there are non-smoking rooms on the 2nd floor as well.

I noticed when walking down the hall on the standard view side that the rooms closer to the lobby on the second floor were non-smoking.

Not a problem, the written word is difficult to convey the true meaning and intent at times. The problem is that so few get the BW view that to restrict it further may set you up for failure or disappointment. You can word it differently but I doubt that will improve your chances.
