Just wondering if there was an announced date that the rennovations would be completed. We're going down for 10 days in October and were hoping most of it would be done.

I heard somewhere it will continue through 2003. They haven't even started on the standard view side. I have a feeling they are not working at a quick pace. Construction projects are funny. We have a local strip shopping center going up, they have been working on it for a year and it's still going to be another year to full completion. Meanwhile, they built PNC Park & Heinz Field in about 18 months. I guess it depends on how much overtime the contractor (or owner) is willing to spend.

The BW renovations are still underway. We were told by one CM valet that all of the repairs are being absorbed by the original contractor because of problems with the original work. He said that it was more than just a repainting of the exterior. While we were there in mid August the canvas screen hiding the work was over the BW section above Big River Brew House and the exterior of that restaurant was boarded up. Some tables were moved to the other side of the BW by the rail.

One thing that I noticed was that the green roofing on much of the building had black stains but nothing around them that might explain their source. Perhaps it could be mildew with all that Florida humidity, but with all that direct sun it's hard to believe. Has anyone else noticed this?

I am not sure if some of the roofing is being replaced, too, but some areas did look new with no stains.

When we were there in June we were informed that renovations would continue through this year and probably into first quarter next. Things are being done on a rolling basis and most work is outside (inside is finished or mainly so).

As to those black streaks on the roof, it most likely algae, which can form on roofs in hot humid climates. Usually you just clean it off every year or so. There are roofs that are algae resistant but not apparenly on BW or various other Disney resorts that have similar issues. The algae are not a serious problem although left completely untreated they could lower the life of the roof somewhat.
