BWV preferred view

I booked BWV, but they only had the preferred view available, is it worth the extra points over standard view or just stay somewhere else. I am waitlisted for boardwalk view and if that came through I would definitely take it. Any advice for me?

If it's a Boardwalk view - yes, it's worth the extra points in my opinion.

Don't think of Preferred View as "extra". Think of standard view as a discount.
The points for preferred view are essentially the same as points at BCV and VWL - and the views are just as good (or just as blah depending upon how you look at it.) So it doesn't really make sense to go elsewhere to avoid paying for preferred view.

The preferred view at BWV is actually two different types. The regular preferred view could be a view of the quiet pool. The other view you will have to request is the boardwalk view, which can also look over the clown slide pool. If you want a view of the boardwalk call back and put in this request. As always they will say it is not guaranteed. Either way its a great place and location.

fyi, BW view is a seperate booking category, not a request (it was changed a few years back). there are now 3 BWVs view categories: preferred pool/garden view, preferred BW view, & standard view.
hth:)

We had the preferred view when we were there this past Dec/Jan and we loved it. We were overlooking the clown pool and beyond was the Tower of Tower as well. It wasn't our first choice (had wanted boardwalk too) but the family was thrilled with it.

If you have the non-Boardwalk "preferred view", ask for a pool view ! We had a preferred view room several years ago and the primary view was that of the valet parking lot. Because we had a view of water (a small/narrow canal directly under our balcony), the BWV and MS told me it was considered "preferred". The pool views are nicer.

Preferred non-boardwalk views are main pool, quiet pool, overlooking channel to MGM and the almost boardwalk view -- group of rooms that overlook the center village green outside the main lobby. All of them are decent but not as desirable as boardwalk view. I consider all somewhat better than the standard view but the standard view is also not bad. So whether it is worth the difference is a matter of personal choice. If what you want to do is stay at BWV -- and thus have a decent view AND walking access to two parks, night activities and within walking distance of over 20 restaurants -- and all that is available is preferred non-boardwalk view, then it seems you should do so. If you just want to spend fewer points, you need to consider OKW or SSR and some room categories at AKV

overlooking channel to MGM
True...our preferred view did overlook this channel. But, I'd like to point out the primary view was that of the parking lot. The water view was secondary to the parking lot. In fact, I later found out, that the dividing line between the preferred and standard views was maybe 2-3 rooms down from me. I felt my room should have been standard view points. I don't know if there are better views of the channel or not. I can only speak about the channel view we had which was overshadowed by the parking lot view. This is why I suggest requesting a pool view which would be guaranteed a nicer view.

Its highly unlikely that standard views are available if Boardwalk views were not. If you want to stay at the Boardwalk, you probably won't have a choice.

Remember that Boardwalk preferred views are the same number of points as any room at VWL or BCV.

I think I may have gotten somewhat lucky as I just booked for the first weekend of F&W and said I'd take any view of a studio for either BWV or BCV. The only one they had for both nights was standard view...hopefully it won't be too bad and it did cost us less points.

I've stayed with boardwalk, main pool, and the standard views. Of course, the boardwalk view is the best, but since we're not in the room that much, we've stayed in the standard view for the past 2 years. We could still see the fireworks from Epcot ( just the high ones ) and if it is quiet enough, we can even hear the music!!! Have a great time!!

I think you did get lucky....that's great. I like the standard view rooms - they are dependably pretty good and are generally my first choice. Some of the preferred views are really good, and some of them are frankly not as good as the standard views. Boardwalk is, of course, always the Boardwalk.

Thanks LoveTheWDWMagic & crisi, I'm amazed we got something this late since it is F&W. To hijack the thread for a moment...any request we should put in? This will be our first time staying at BWV and I have no idea if we should put a request for something (like upper floor) or not.

I've had lousy luck with requests, if I ask for high floor, I discover that ground floor is really convienent to the pool. If we want close to the elevators, we find out that being at the end near the stairs is more convienent to MGM and the bus stop.

Generally speaking, high floor and end of the hall are best for fireworks, but least convienent for everything else. If you have a stroller, remember that there are two "ground floors" at BW - its functionally a walkout with the second floor where the entrance and lobby is and the groundfloor where the pool is - and there is one set of elevators near the lobby - meaning most people that don't bring strollers use the stairs a lot - so high floor for the fireworks can mean a lot of stairs. I think the fireworks views from BW are overrated, most of Illuminations happens low enough to the water that I'm not sure its worth a walk - but other people love it.

I've never requested a certain floor, but we've always stayed on either the third, 4th, or 5th floor. The high floors gives you better view of the fireworks, whether you have the standard or boardwalk view, and the noise level is less, especially if you have the boardwalk view. We are going again in August, standard view, and hope to get another high floor room. This time, I will request that when I check in. Remember to go to the boardwalk in the evening ( after 8 ) to enjoy the entertainers that will be there.

We stayed at the BW preferred Boardwalk view last October.
It was fantastic. We were on the fourth floor - and the firework
view was worth the extra points.
Try it atleast once. You will not be disappointed !
