BWV points rental

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in. There didn't seem to be an appropriate place in the DVC forums.

We're looking at heading to WDW the first week of December 2013 - most likely Nov. 30 to Dec. 7. We want to rent DVC points at BWV. We've rented twice in the past - OKW in 2007 and AKV in 2009. My question is when would be the right time to advertise on the Rent/Trade forum for the points I need? I've read that BWV studios fill quickly at the 11 month window, which would be the end of January-beginning of February 2013 for our time frame. I wasn't sure if I advertised early, a member might respond and agree to the booking once the 11 month window opens for them. It would obviously have to be someone whose home resort is BWV. I appreciate any insight someone could give me.

I would look for posts on the rent board at least 12 months prior. That gives you a month or more to try and line something up. Speaking from experience, I have never been able to book a room anywhere in that area during the timeframe you are looking at in the past 5 years. I try at the 7 month mark when I am eligible.

You can't post on the Rental forum that you are looking for a specific resort and time frame.

In fact if you post this info on the DVC forums it will be removed, because when you put in your comments what you want and where; you can be contacted by scammers.

You have two choices, either use a broker and contact them far enough in advance so they have your dates and preferences before the 11 month window opens.

Or go to the Rent forum and see if anyone has points listed for what you the resort you want.

I would start looking at for rent posts now looking for someone that has BWV points. Once someone posts a "for rent" you can reply with your request.

We rented the week before thanksgiving in 2007 at BWV & loved it. The transportation could be better but that's another thread.

I'm actually surprised your post hasn't been removed. You mention you are looking for a specific time frame and a specific resort, so don't be surprised if a moderator removes or modifies your post. It's nothing personal, just the rules here on the DIS.

Many have used David's DVC rentals. Yes, it's a bit more expensive, but it's really easy to work with him. He is the middle man and takes a lot of the guesswork out of the whole process. And, he can start looking for a rental for your time frame immediately.
I would give him a try.

Sorry about that. I thought that only applied to the Rent/Trade board. I was actually only looking for advice about when I should start searching for someone to rent from. I'm not looking to solicit any offers. Thanks for the heads up.

As Sammie said, part of the reason the DIS decided to monitor these type of posts is because the poster then received unscrupulous soliciting from people pretending to have exactly what the poster was asking for. They actually did not have the points to rent and posters were stuck paying out money for a reservation they never had.

It truly is a rule to protect you. Please be aware if you have anyone that responds to your request at this point.

The 11 month window for those dates would be late December-early January.
