BWV -- Odds of getting 3BR or 2BR during W&D at 11 mos.?

Hi all!

We're considering buying BWV resale, for the express purpose if being able to get a 3BR or even 2BR Boardwalk view overlapping Wine & Dine weekend each year.

Before we pull the trigger, I want to get a sense of the odds of actually being able to get this choice at 11 mos. Are there so few at this busy time that we still might not be able to book this successfully?

Anywhere else I could/should check for info on this?

TIA!

There are only seven GV at BWV. And every two bedroom villa is a lockoff, so if the studios book up first, that leaves no two bedrooms. I can see you getting locked out of GV, but not of Preferred two bedroom villas at 11 months out for Wine & Dine. The BW view two bedroom might even be gone by the time you book.

we are talking about Food and Wine. Right , or is this Wine and Dine something new?

We had to waitlist 2 days for a std 2bdrm (we are obsessed with saving points and best bang for your buck) at the 10.5 mo mark but it can through within a month. We are going in early October.

The Wine & Dine race weekend (Thurs to Sun) in the first part of Nov is the highest DVC demand weekend of the year. Since all BWV 2BRs are lock-offs, they can disappear as a result of studio reservations. For that weekend, there is a high risk that standard view studios (and 2BRs) may be booked full before or right at 8 a.m. at 11 months out, and some risk BWV boardwalk view studios (and thus 2BRs) and GVs may do the same. BWV pool/garden 2BRs should last beyond the 11 month window.

Thx for the responses!

We’re rethinking this whole thing. DVC appears to be less and less for us these days. Might just sell points we have and buy a vacation home in the area instead! :)

Meaning... booked for start days earlier than ours, overlapping our stay so they’re taken before we book?
They started booking their stay weeks before the actual start date and added days to the end while removing days from the start until they got the time they wanted.

Grrrrrrr... that annoys me.
It's a widely accepted practice with DVC. In the old days, everyone booked by the check-OUT day instead of the check-IN day. So everyone was equal. If you had a seven night trip and another guest checked in the same day as you, but had a six night trip, they got to book their stay one day before you. So members would book one night at a time and then add the next night to insure they got their stay. So on day one everyone was equal. Now on day one, only guests checking in the same day as you are equal. If I check in one day after you, you and other members booked up those seven GVs before I even got a chance to book one night. So by "walking" the reservation, I can modify the reservation every day to delete one night and add one night.

“Walking” is obviously not what is intended by Disney. While the system allows it, it’s clearly a workaround. Wish there was a way they could clamp down on it like they have with other manipulations recently.

Before asking Disney to fix a problem, consider the cause and Disney's likely response. The main cause of availability problems, particularly for studios (and as a result 2BRs at resorts with lock-offs) and during the fall is Disney, not the members who walk. Disney is the one that set points for the fall at mostly the lowest and second lowest of the season, created all the events that attract reservations in the fall, and then, beginning about ten years ago, began a process of raising new purchase point prices by about 80% over those 10 years, while lowering the new purchase requirements to 100 points and at many times 50 so it could sell most of the points, including those attached to newly added, outrageously priced bungalows and cabins, to persons who could afford only enough points to get studios, with the result that studios have been effectively "oversold."

And in December 2018, Disney showed how it planned to resolve the problem of excess studio demand that it created and about which members had expressed concern. It issued new point charts for 2020 that significantly raised the points needed almost year round to reserve studios and 1BRs while lowering somewhat 2BRs, and thus showing that its method of resolving the issue was to punish all those who bought into Disney's oversell of studios, and it did that despite representations (including written) made over the years that reallocations would be limited to seasonal changes, and Disney's response to objections from those who relied on those representations was that Disney "is not bound" by representations it made to its purchasers. It eventually withdrew those point charts but still asserts the right to make such changes.

Thus, if you perceive that something like walking creates a problem, think twice before asking Disney to resolve the issue because its probable response and solution will not be one that you expect.

The points they assign for that time period should be increased. That doesn’t preclude wanting to see them cut down on this sort of manipulative practice as well. Happy to agree to disagree on that. :) There’s only so riled up I can get about DVC.
