We are going to BWV in July and staying in a Standard View room. I had read somewhere that you could see Illuminations from there. Does anyone know if this is true?

You can see the higher fireworks and hear some of the music. I think the best views for this are closer to the end of the hall near the parking (looking over the convention center and France in the background). We were in a ground floor 1 bedroom in this area last trip and we would hear it with the doors closed.
Not all of the standard view rooms have IllumiNations views from the balcony. The rooms nearest to the elevators will have the view blocked by the BWI wing. Some of the rooms in the area Judique mentions have the view blocked by trees.
And most of Illuminations happens low to the water. With the Boardwalk itself in the way, don't expect a "great" firework view....higher and at the end of the building is better (but we've never had a location request met at the Boardwalk - we ask for high and get low).
The views from the boardwalk are decent. Take the 5 min and stroll down to the bridge just prior to going into epcot. You will be able to hear all the music, and feel the pounding of the fireworks in your chest, and be able to see 80% of the fireworks. It's a wonderful place to watch from.
The BWV standard views of the Epcot fireworks were much better in my opinion then the ones we had at BCV, when they allowed you to request an Epcot view.
