BWV Boardwalk View Request

We are leaving in a couple weeks for a split visit. I think I have my BLT request down but what are your thoughts for a choice room if you had to stay in a studio with Boardwalk view at BWV?

Other than staying away from rooms with a solid balcony, IMO there isn't a bad Boardwalk View room.

I always request top floor. If walking is an issue for you, request close to elevator.

we actually liked the solid rail with the huuuuuuuuuuuuge balcony (2nd floor), with the great privacy (i can watch illuminations in my pjs, but ppl can't see my attire)
it is definately not a good choice if anyone is in a wheel chair. some ppl with small children like the safety aspect of a solid wall, others prefer the openess, where the children can watch all the goings on without being lifted.

btw, another thing we like about those 2nd floor rooms is the easy walk up/down the stairwell on our way to the pool or BW

How well can you see illuminations from a boardwalk view? Can you hear the music or just see the fireworks?

With boardwalk view, you see the fireworks and can hear music in the distance. You can also see upper level MK fireworks..

As to request, upper floor would be my suggestion.

What is a "solid balcony" and where are they located? I'm thinking about switching from our usual BCV to BWV for our October stay. We obviously want to hit F&WF but want to commit to learning to vacation in WDW and make it a quiet stay, not all about the parks. Having the fireworks view sounds nice, but what about noise; is that a problem with a Boardwalk view?

My friend might disagree.. he just came home yesterday from a stay at BWV, and was so excited to have finally scored BW view. (he owns BCV so has to book at 7 months)

He requested high floor and got ground floor. They had to keep their drapes closed the entire time b/c people were constantly walking in front of their balcony. They asked to be moved but there were no other BW view rooms open until the next day, and since their stay was short they didn't want to move. I'd be so bummed if we ended up on the ground floor!

You can see high fireworks - much of Illuminations is down on the water and that is blocked by buildings.

High floor and further from the elevators gets you the best views - but those are the least convenient rooms. Especially if you are elevator dependent and can't take a lot of stairs, and if you spend a lot of time heading out - i.e. multiple trips a day to the parks or the pool. There is something to be said for a lower floor if you like the ease of steps and have kids going out to the pool three times a day. And something to be said for close to the elevator if you have strollers or an ECV.

I wouldn't want the ground floor rooms due to the traffic though, either. And the solid balconies are bad if you don't mind standing to look. They are huge and do give you some privacy from the Boardwalk itself.

That's a new one on me. We have been staying at the BWV with a Boardwalk View for years and never realized that there were Boardwalk level rooms other than the model.

There are currently 3 rooms in the area of the old DVC Sales Center on the 1st floor that face the boardwalk.
They are:
Room 1001 which is a Dedicated 1 Bedroom.
Room 1003 which is a 1 Bedroom Lockoff.
and Room 1005 which is a Studio Lockoff.

1007 (Stuidio Lockoff) and 1009 (1 Bedroom Lockoff) are used as the existing DVC Preview Rooms.

As for Privacy in these First Floor Rooms - It is true that you do need to keep the drapes closed for full privacy, but they are raised up a bit from the boardwalk level and have a small hedgerow providing some screening. Overall we enjoyed our stay in these rooms along with the view and easy access out the back entrance behind Jelly Rolls that they provided.

Also the Solid Wall type balconies can be found on some of the 2nd and 5th floor Boardwalk View Rooms.

I know, I felt so bad for him. They were so excited to have finally scored BW view after years of only being able to get Pool/Garden, and then to end up on the ground floor. Talk about a major bummer!

Aaahh....we've stayed in Room 1003 and 1005 (as a 2 Bdrm) and yes, you have people walking by your room and peering in.

Luckily, when we went, it was January 2010 and COLD COLD COLD so the curtains were always closed to keep out the cold air.

And it was noisy at night. We stay BW view all the time but this was by far the noisiest it's ever been.

A higher floor will mean a little further away from the noise!

And we did jump the hedgerow a few times for quicker BW access.

Once I even had BWV points transferred in so DH could have a BW view. I requested higher floor, and you guessed it we got 1005!

Is there a patio/balcony there? I don't recall. I think it would be super cool to sit out on the patio at night and watch the boardwalk traffic. Also, if you leave out the french doors, do they lock behind you or are you leaving your room open for robbery?
