I am a huge fan of renting a car while staying at Disney. One time I did ME and I'm not a huge fan - not horrible, not great. BUT, my DS8 and I will be staying at BWV from 06/01 to 06/05. Since I don't think DH will be going, I'm a little unsure about the rental car. Since we aren't going with DH, I want to keep my trip as inexpensive as possible . . because that's just the way I roll. :hippie: We can walk to DHS (MGM in my heart) and Epcot easily, but I am not sure about the transportation to MK and AK. I was thinking all of the resorts in that area share buses. Is that right? :confused3 I know we could walk through Epcot and monorail over to MK, but I did that once before and it's not as easy as you think.

Opinions . . .

We stay at the BWV all the time and seldom rent a car.

Lately, the BWV shares a bus (for MK & AK) with just the Swan & Dolphin in the mornings and at the end of the park days. Going to the parks, tHe BWV is the first stop so you can almost always get a seat. Returning seems to differ - sometimes the BWV/BWI is the first stop, but sometimes it is the Swan.

If you return to the BWV during the middle of the day, the bus is almost always shared by all 5 EPCOT resorts - the Swan, Dolphin, YC, BC/BCV & finally the BWV/BWI. (This is just because the number of people traveling at those times is small relative to the "rush hours"). When the bus is shared by all 5, it seems that Swan is usually the first stop. We just get off at the Swan and walk to the BWV. It's a lot faster than staying on the bus until the end. Depending on the location of your room (and how well you know the stairway "shortcuts"), the Swan bus stop can be closer to your room than the BW stop.

If we do get a car, we would drive to the AK and DD/PI only. We always bus it to the MK. FWIW, if you would be the least bit uncomfortable driving around WDW, just plan to use the bus. It's really not all that bad!

We always have a rental for Off-sight drives but never use it to go to the Parks I just don't see the savings in time if not going from park to park or resort to resort.

And yes both DHS and Epcot are a doable walk but the boat to DHS is not that bad either.

For a short trip like that, grabbing a cab to MK and AK (if you don't want to bother with the bus) will be cheaper than renting a car.

I always rent a car. I go at off times and usually pay around $100 including taxes with National. I like to go to the outlets, grocery store. I drive to AK & DTD, boat or walk to MGM & Epcot. MK I sometimes take the bus.

This is a question that we keep going back and forth on...
We have been coming in the night before our 1st day at BWV and staying offsite or at SOG. Having a car for this is the only way to go.
Then we use it for a supermarket run, DTD/PI, and we normaly drive to AK as it seems faster. Last trip we did take the bus to AK and it was fine.
As far as MK we take the bus, but at least once a trip I need to take the monorail from MK to EPCOT and walk back via the backgate. The monorail ride to EPCOT is one of my fav things to do:cool1:

I think our current way of looking at it is this: if we stay offsite the 1st night we will get a rental car, if not we will use ME....

But... we also live close to the Auto Train in Lorton VA and I want to try that at least once, when I work it out the auto train is about the same price as flying down, rental car, and spending the 1st night offsite.... So if I can get MY DW to sleep on a train I want to give that a go as well.

research and planning is sooo much fun:thumbsup2
