Do you think it is worth the point differential to stay in a BWV 2 Bedroom Preferred View instead of a Standard View? What are your reasons?

:surfweb:

We do not mind walks, and we've had wonderful 2 bedroom standards...the one at the very end of the hallway had a wonderful view! We haven't had a two bedroom preferred, but we have had studios preferred twice, and once the view from the balcony seemed little more than the "works" of the slide, not preferred in my estimation, but the other time the studio was of the Village Green area, very preferred. So, for the points, and a 50% satisfaction rate (very very limited sample), I would go with the savings, since there are some very nice standard view. We are getting our first taste of Boardwalk view, a GV and some BW studios in June. So, it may be from now on, we go with BW view.

PS. There are standard view villas close by the cages used for luggage handling. I would definitely not want that area!!! Just knowing you will not get that area if you pay for Preferred, may be enough to weigh the decision for some people.

At BWV, we generally book "standard", no matter what sized villa because we are "point-misers". We prefer to have more visits/year rather than a specific view. :thumbsup2

We too prefer standard over preferred just mainly because of the point savings. We're not ones to sit out on the balcony much and quite honestly we've always had wonderful views in our standard rooms.

We'll be in a standard view 2br at BWV for the first time this Dec. I'm hoping to avoid the luggage handling view. Where is that located?

I believe they are referring to the area located near the valet parking. I stayed there a number of years back, but my stay was prior to Magical Express. I would imagine that has drastically increased the amount of luggage passing in and out of there each day to the trucks.

The area with the luggage cages is up by the bell stand. Facing the building, from the driveway, they are on the left. There's a walled in area, and large cages and every so often trucks come up and luggage is loaded, and I guess unloaded. We were maybe 8-10 units down the row last December (along the driveway) we were not bothered by the luggage handling, but I thought to myself that if I were much closer to the elevators, we could be.

PS. I, we, do use our balconies, during the day even, and I think the noises would be during the day. For instance, we would eat lunch on the balcony and see luggage moving.

I think it depends on the person and the trip.

We generally stay Standard - fewer points. But the Boardwalk View is a great view (particularly with the hand going down - hated that hand) and that view may be worth the extra points. If your choice is standard and preferred without Boardwalk, I'd go standard every time - there are some nice standard views and some not great preferred views - so why risk it - at least you get the bargain.

However, unless you are making your reservations well in advance, you may not get the choice. We own BWV, almost always book 11 months out, and I do all my point planning under the assumption there won't be a standard view room for me to book. If I get the standard views, bonus! If not, we ask for Boardwalk View. If we don't get that, preferred view is still ok. Standard views are about 20% of the resort and are the most popular of the three possible views at Boardwalk. With the Boardwalk view being a close second (another 20% of the resort) and the Preferred View being generally not preferred by anyone.

Thanks Bobbi and Carol! We also use our balconies ALOT (especially with our girls (ages 2 and 4)...they love getting to go out and look at the goings-on). I went ahead and dropped our request for "near the elevator." I'd rather walk....

To the OP, my first choice is boardwalk view. I've never stayed standard view before (Dec will be our first time if our waitlist for bw view doesn't come through). But if I stayed preferred view, I'd be afraid of having to get a clown pool view. My girls would probably like it, but I wouldn't. And having to use the same amount of points for a clown view as a bw view would just irk me.

I still can't believe that our waitlist for a BWV standard view for 12/9-12/14 actually came through, though. I'm THRILLED!

BW View is so worth it....I think that watching Illuminations every night from your balcony overlooking the fun filled atmosphere of the BW with its performers and entertainment make it the best view in WDW. The sun also never blares down on the BW view villas....Some balconies are impossible to sit on during certain times of the day but I noticed during our August trip that the BWV balconies are beautiful morning, noon and evening. I almost baked on another balcony during a different trip , so I noticed the difference this year.

I love the BWV...You can conserve points and have more stays by booking SV or have the option of the fantastic BWV.

BWV offers the very best options of all the DVC resorts, in my opinion.

FWIW, if you request quiet pool view, I think you will get it. Most guests request close to the elevator/ Luna Park view (clown pool), so odds of them being able to make you happy are pretty good, LOL. You have to walk a bit, but I think it is worth it!

Hope you get your BW view, but if not, the SV are quite nice. We also prefer them!

IMHO I would go standard and save the points. That said, I made my plans for next June at 11 mos and requested a BW view. So I may be singing a different tune after that trip!

Yahoo! I finished booking my 7 day stay in a BWV 2BR Standard View for a week in April. This will be my first stay at BWV. I decided to save points a go standard. Any tips on areas to avoid?

We ask for high floor, end of hall. We get ground floor near the pool. I'm not convinced room requests are meaningful at BWV.

We had a 2 bd Boardwalk view(preferred). I don't think that I'd book this again. It was our first trip,so we wanted what we though was the "it" room. The view was nice but the noise at 2 AM wasn't so nice. It was my fault for not having realized that the bars are opened late.
From now on, at least at BWV, we'll book standard. I'll save the points.

We're planning on trying for BWV at 7 months next October 1-7, 2008. I saw the points charts were for preferred and standard. Preferred reads that it includes pool view and Boardwalk view, among others. So, how is it that some of you say you get Boardwalk view "if available" - do they guarantee BW view without charging more points for it? Just curious because we would like to try to BW view if possible.

Thanks!

Yes - the Boardwalk view rooms are a separate booking category. They are the same number of points as the other Preferred View category - Pool/Garden. You know when you reserve if you have a Boardwalk view or a Pool/Garden view (or a Standard View).

As you probably know, the BWV also has a third booking category - Standard View. Those are less points than the PV categories and overlook the resort entrance and entrance driveway.

If your gonna spend the points on a 2bdrm., by all means go for the BW view. There is no difference in pts. between preferred and bw view. But you need to specifically ask for bw view. This is also guaranteed. Even when getting a studio, I always ask for bw view. You have the best view, IMHO, why not take advantage of it?

Congratulations on securing the Standard View villa. :thumbsup2

All SV rooms are good, with some trade-offs like most rooms. Close to the elevators is many people's request...but that is also close to the ME cages and somewhat noisy.

On the other hand, many complain about the long hallways at BWV if you're not near the elevator.

We had one near the elevators last trip and many would find it less than ideal. We found it to be fine. Enjoy your trip! :)

I have never stayed in preferred although thinking about it for our Dec 08 Trip. Standard are not bad and some are even great. One year we got a 2BR and was facing the bus stop which at the time of check in ???? but when Illuminations started that night we had a great view of it when the fireworks came up over the Inn side. We were on the 3rd Floor and if you are able to get higher I imagine it is even better. Then others have been facing the back side and on that side were were able to see Fantasmic. Now with BW view I am sure you can see Illuminations even better. But I would way it on how often you will be in the room to enjoy the room. If not planning on being in the parks everyday...i.e. staying 10 days and have 4 day hopper... then I would go with preferred. If you are staying 7 days and have 7 day hopper...NOT... then there would be no time to enjoy the room... THAT IS HOW I WOULD DECIDE....
