BWPPI v CCI

My family (Me, DH, DS4, and DD2 mo) are heading to DL in February and we're debating over the Best Western Park Place Inn and Suites and Candy Cane Inn. We'd like some opinions on which people would go with and why? The big reason we're prevaricating is that my husband doesn't believe that CCI is really only .6 of a mile to the middle of Esplanade (according to Google Maps). Google says it's .6 of a mile from the front of CCI to the Esplanade and .3 mile from the front of BWPPI to the Esplanade. Looking at the distance, he thinks it's got to be a lot further away than just double. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

.6mi from CCI to the esplanade sounds about right. .3mi to BWPPI doesn't sound right, it's directly across the street from the esplanade.

Using Gmap Pedometer, it is .26 miles from the center of the esplanade to the front desk of PPI. It is .57 from the center of the esplanade to the front desk of the Candy Cane. The esplanade is the area between the gates of DIsneyland and DCA.

If you are going from the bus turnaround entrance, it is .07 to PPI, and .38 to Candy Cane.

I think the estimate is like 0.25 from PPI to esplanade, give or take a few steps. Seems accurate to me--its about the length of the loop around the task at the local high school...

I'd go with cheaper. CCI has a shuttle that's pretty timely. And PPI is right across the street. For me, it all washes out about the same, so I'd do the least expensive.

The difference in price is negligible, so we're really looking for the pros and cons of each motel by people who have stayed there.

Candy Cane:
Free timely shuttle
Free breakfast
Free parking
BEAUTIFUL landscaping, flowers EVERYWHERE
Pretty cobblestone parking lot
ABC Mart, 7-11, CVS all right next door for water bottles, sunscreen, snacks, etc.
Very comfy beds
Quiet rooms IMO
Pretty plantation shutters on the windows
Toilet/shower in its own room so others can get ready by the sink
Fridge and safe in room
Nice staff

I've stayed there five times. :-)

I've never stayed at the Candy Cane, but we'll be staying at the BWPPI for the 5th time in a row this coming January. I've never had a bad experience there. The pool seems ok but I've never actually used it, just walked past a few times on my way in to the park. When we stayed there last year they were in the midst of renovating their rooms - we stayed in one that hadn't been done yet so I can't comment on the upgrades, but they look a lot nicer from the pictures. The included breakfast is pretty decent. There are usually a few hot items, along with cereal, juice, milk, pastries, and bread items (bagels, muffins, bread) plus coffee and tea. It's a pretty good spread for an included meal. The breakfast is served in the upstairs room of Captain Kidd's buffet which is just a few steps from the front desk (if you value your digestive system don't actually eat at Captain Kidd's though lol).

Location-wise it's right at the crosswalk to walk into the esplanade. They don't have a shuttle but there's absolutely no need for one. It's just about as close as you can get. We love having the quick walk back to our hotel room at the end of a long day or even just to change clothes after getting soaked on Splash Mountain. It's also nice if it's a cooler time of year and you want to leave warmer clothes/jackets at the hotel. I walked from ToonTown to the hotel room and back in about 15 minutes once to grab jackets for my wife and kids on one trip.

I actually have family that live about 30-45 minutes from the park but we choose to stay at a hotel for the proximity. I always ask for a ground floor room close to the front and have never had a problem getting what I want. The staff have always been wonderful, and I've never had a problem with the place. I think it's a great hotel to stay at for a trip to Disneyland.

I would stay at the Candy Cane over BWPPI regardless of the price difference. I really prefer it. I didn't care for the PPI.

I’ve stayed at CCI anytime I cant book DVC. It is my favorite good neighbor hotel by far. Beautiful grounds, AP discounts plus they give you a $10 off per night voucher for your next stay every check out, good breakfast spread, shuttle that is on time every time, walk is easy, rooms are very clean, staff is kind and accommodating, free parking, coffee and lemon infused water in the lobby at all times... seriously the best.

When proximity to the gates matters, CCI (premium rooms) is our go-to. Never had a bad stay there. For us, it's about a 10 minute walk at a casual pace to bag check. (The one signal may add a few minutes.) I know PPI is right across Harbor from the entrance, but the customer service and atmosphere at CCI works so well for us that we stick with it.
