BWI vs BWV

We have decided to stay at the Boardwalk during an upcoming December visit with our 7 year old GS. Thanks to the DISboards responses, we were overwhelming encouraged to select BW over POR.

So now that we have settled on that, the follow up question is this; since the BWI and BWV are the same price, which should we go with? Is there really any noticeable difference between the two of them?

Thanks again for all of your help!:)

The BWV studios are 412 sq ft and come with a 1 queen bed, sleeper sofa & kitchenette (fridge, microwave, toaster, dishes, etc.=great for breakfast)

The normal room at BWI is 385 sq ft with 2 queen beds.

You can rent a studio from a DVC member. It takes 9-12 points per night on Sun-Thurs and 21-23 points for Fri-Sat. You can pay $10-11 a point so the studio will cost you approx $126 S-T; $222 F-S.

It's 9 or 21 points for Standard view and 12 or 23 points for Preferred view.

Hope that helps!

I know I'm a johnny come lately on the poll, but I tend to disagree on BW over POR.

Unless you're right at the elevator, you have a good sporting chance of walking what feels like a mile to your room. The rooms are absolutely beautiful at the BW. The walk to our room is usually so far that if we remember in the lobby that we forgot something, we do without or buy it in the park. Did anybody see The Shining where the kid is riding his Big Wheel around long, enormous hallways? I think they modeled BW after that.

POR is more compact and you don't have nearly as far to walk to room/parking.

Just my opion.

Personally I would opt for the studio since your GS will probably be very happy on the sofa bed. Also I would not pay extra for a view at the Boardwalk...the Boardwalk views are few and far between and the other vieews are just fine. When you make your reservation I would REALLY suggest you request a room near the elevator. The halls are long (actually not quite as bad as the previous poster made them sound IMHO). I think you might really enjoy having the frig and microwave, toaster, coffee pot, etc...great for doing quick breakfasts in the room and it is nice to have the couch/sitting area during the day.

The location is awesome...just a short walk into EPCOT and a nice boatride to MGM, so the only buses you need to take are to the MK and AK. Your grandson will LOVE the Boardwalk pool too. If you stay in the villas you can use the community hall which has air hockey, foos ball, craft activities, games to check out, etc, etc all without a fee (well some of the craft activities have a fee). Also if you stay in the villas you can use the laundry room if needed for free (just bring your own dryer sheets and detergent)

Have a great time.

If you stay at the BWV with a reservation from Disney CRO, you will probably get a preferred view which is of the Luna Park pool or the leisure (quiet) pool. You won't get a Boardwalk view or a parking lot view since these are reserved for DVC members using points.

Someone mentioned renting a reservation from a DVC member for your trip to save money. Unfortunately, December is a very popular time for members so there is a good chance everything on a points reservation is already booked. Some members might have a reservation that they are unable to use and might be willing to rent it to you. But there are somethings you need to know about renting a reservation from a member.

They fully control the reservtion until the moment you check into the resort. You cannot call Member Services to confirm or add to or modify the reservation. The member is the only one who can do that. The member also sets the rules for payment and cancellation. Some require full payment to make the reservation. Some allow you to pay it out, but most require full payment no less than 60 days out.

When you stay on a points reservation, you get limited housekeeping unless you pay for more. If you stay 7 nights or less, on day 4 you will get your towels replaced and trash removed. If you stay 8 nights or more, you will get a full cleaning on day 4 and your trash removed and towels replaced on day 8. You only get beds made, rooms vacuumed, etc on a full cleaning day.

If you get a studio, the sleeper sofa will be a double sized sleeper sofa. If you get a one bedroom villa, you will get a king sized bed and a queen sized sleeper sofa.

If it matters, BWI have 2 sinks in the bathroom area and BWV have only one. BWV does have a sink in the little kitchenette area though.

Deb and Bill- We are looking at Dec 13-18th. Is that what you would consider to be a popular time? Although it would be less expensive, it sounds like a lot of leg work. I took a look at the reservation requests on the DVC DISboards and there are a lot of them out there!

December is a very popular time with DVC, and it would probably be difficult to get a rental then.
