Well, DH & I will be heading to WDW on Sunday for 8 days.
After our last two visits and at least 4 rides on Buzz, I'm ready to give up. I'm totally frustrated.
No matter what I aim at, no matter how fast or slow I " pull the trigger", I get almost no points. Everytime. I aim exactly where DH aims-he gets points-me, nada, nothing ,zip, bupkiss.
So, I'm giving a shout out for some advice and guidance:listen:.
Right now, I avoid that entire area because I feel bad just thinking about it. I don't have a need to beat the high score. I have a need just to score. It's my one and only low point in all of WDW and I feel bad about feeling bad.:worried:

Thanks in advance to any and all who will take pity on me and offer help.:worship:

The beam from your "gun" ends in a little red dot. Have you found it when you shoot? You have to get that dot on the target and then fire.

DS and I do pretty well but we are both experienced video game shooters. I'm not sure how important that is.

You can google and get tips about what shapes are worth more points.

My kids will kick my butt every time though. No matter how hard I try.

Never let go of your trigger and have it constantly bleeping. In the first shooting room take a second to find your red dot, then have at it.

I seem to do better if I am the one moving the vehicle.

You can sometimes lose your red dot among everyone else's red dots. If I do that I just aim my gun away from the others, find the dot and get back into it.

Me too. I can never find "my" dot. Last ride my 4 year old beat me by several hundred thousand points. I rock at Toy Story though.

"To achieve a high score on the Buzz Lightyear Space Rangers Spin Ride, here are a couple of hidden targets. As you leave the first shooting area, there is a "Z" target on the ceiling above you, if you hit the target directly in the center with the laser, you get 100,000 points per hit. There is also a hidden target on the wall in the room that shows you the wall video of the flying Zurg ship. You can only see it for a split second while the Zurg ship is stopped and just before it gets destroyed. This is the most challenging one to find and hitting the targe (Not Enclosed in a "Z") also gives high bonus points, but I don't know how much since you really have to concentrate on the wall. "

"On the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin there is a target in the first room worth 100,000 points. When you enter the first target room there will be an orange robot on your left. As you pass, spin around and shoot at the target on it's left arm. Each hit is worth 100,000 points. I maxed out the score at 999,999 before leaving the room. You don't get anything except the satisfaction of being a Space Commander. "

This one puzzles me. I'm not clear on what the target looks like.

I'm terrible, too. Sometimes I just shoot at everything and I'm still lousy. I do a little bit better on the Men In Black ride. Except I shoot the humans a lot.

excellent!

 what? wait a sec ... you mean to tell me you are supposed to score POINTS on Buzz Lightyear?:confused3

All the circles with the Z's are targets. There is a little glass circle in the center of the Z. That's what you aim at. Yes .... In the second room, the robots left arm. You can shoot at this from both directions. As you enter, and then spin around and shoot as you leave. 100,000 points per hit. In the very next room, there's a volcano in the back of the room on the right side. Aim at the Z on top of it. Keep adjusting your car so you can shoot at it, ignore everything else. It's 25,000 per hit. In the next room is Zurg sitting on top of a rocket in the center of the right side. Shoot at the Z on the bottom of the rocket. Points will vary depending on how full the rocket is, but maxes out at 100,000. Then the one in the dark room .... There's actually one on both sides - to the right and left of the exit from the room, but it's very hard to see ... But they're 100,000 each. I often max out at 999,999 before I get to that room.

Don't have an answer for you but I found the same thing. The main problem I found is that the beam is so small you can't even tell where you are aiming. Not sure if you tried Toy Story ride/attraction at Hollywood Studios but that one is so much better...your laser is much bigger. Much easier (and lots of fun)

Just wanted to say that DH (and my kids) always kick my butt on that one too. I just can't seem to get the hang of it.

So, I may be deluding myself with excuses...
I have hit max and I've hit next to nothing. I use most of the tips already listed and definitely find my dot. Sometimes the gun doesn't fire or score consistently. It is crazy making to work hard at finding your dot and shooting at the right things only to not get a decent score; however, I've decided that some guns/cars/score boards work better than others. It's not (always) me ... :p so let's decide that it's not always you. Sometimes it's just bad Buzz luck :upsidedow

I had to chuckle when I saw the title of this thread!

Toy Story Mania - I love and totally have the hang of it.

But, the Buzz Lightyear Ride - I hate! When the ride is over, I'm always complaining and telling tell my dh that the darn thing is broken and doesn't work!

Glad to read I'm not alone! I hated Buzz Lightyear when we went. We didn't even get the ride picture, because I was pulling a face (nothing bad at all, just really pouting), and I'm sure they censored it because I didn't look like I was having fun! If I ever get on that ride again, it'll be because they've changed it somehow, or I've gone completely insane. :confused3

After hating it so much, I was sure I wouldn't enjoy Toy Story Mania, and hadn't even tried to get a FP for it. On our last day, it was EMH in HS, and wait for TSM was 20 minutes, so we thought What the heck, let's go anyway. It was the most fun ride of our entire trip, and we jumped right back in the line to have a second turn!:yay:

TSM has a visual from your canon to the target - no chance of getting your aim confused with someone else's. I'd say try TSM...

Now I am noticing that most of us are complaining to DH and sometimes kids about our scores. New theory: estrogen jams the gun :rotfl:
