Buzz and Woody- Day Six
Cast: Woody- planner, 21-year-old college student who has always wanted to go to Walt Disney World, second trip
Buzz- 23 year old fiancEwho has never been to Walt Disney World and isnt sure what to think of it
Dates: June 9th EJune 16th, 2001
Our story:
June 14th, 2001
Once again, another early wake up call, but if the Mouse says get up at 6:30, he means it. This was our last planned visit to the Magic Kingdom, and the only early entry we did the whole trip. The plan was to hit the Fantasyland attractions early, then catch the Hall of Presidents and the Tiki Birds. We were showered, fed and at the bus stop by 7:30. A packed bus was just pulling away when we got there, but another one showed up about 3-4 minutes later. The line was still very long to go to the Magic Kingdom, and this bus was packed to the gills as well, with many people left behind at ASMo. Oh well, we made it to the MK by 8:00.
I was very surprised at how busy it was this early. Once again, I assumed that we would have virtually no lines during EE, but I was wrong. The park was quickly filling up. We headed straight to Fantasyland and did Peter Pan first with about a 10 minute wait. Cute ride, but not worth an extended wait unless you have small children. We then did the tea cups, and only waited for one ride to go before we got on. We spun the cup pretty hard, and were still laughing and dizzy when we got off.
We walked by Pooh and grabbed a FP when we saw the line was already 50 min. long. That is crazy! It wasnt even 9:00 (regular opening time) yet. We then rode Snow White, which I thought was kind of scary for a kids ride, with about a 10 min. wait. Then off to Tomorrowland to use our AAA voucher for a free soda at their lounge. It wasnt open yet, so we rode the TTA and enjoyed the sights. We then got our free sodas at the AAA lounge and I flipped through a Disney Cruise Line catalog. Definitely under consideration for the honeymoon in 2004 (let me know your thoughts if you have done it!). As soon as our Pooh return time hit, we grabbed FP for Buzz before heading back to ride Pooh.
With our FP, we waited about 2 min. I am not a Pooh fan, so I thought this ride was only ok. But come on people, a 60 min. wait for this ride? Why dont people just grab a FP (it baffles me so). Small kids will probably enjoy this though, especially the Tigger part. After Pooh, we walked over to Liberty Square to watch the Hall of Presidents. The first show wasnt until 10, so we walked down to the shooting arcade to have another go around (still enjoyable). Buzz was tired of shows by this point, but I dragged him along anyways.
The movie part was pretty lame, but I really enjoyed the animatronic presidents. They looked so real. And yes, Lincoln is doing the speech right now until they prepare the new show with George W. Bush, which is supposed to open in October according to the CM. Buzz, who is diabetic, was starting to drop low, so we headed towards the castle in search of some ice cream. I had a Mickey Bar while Buzz had a Mickey ice cream sandwich. Both were very good, and it was nice sitting and gazing at the castle.
Back to Tomorrowland then to use our Buzz FPs with a 0 minute wait (45 min. stand by) I did even worse this time and finally occupied myself with spinning the car around. I think Buzz improved on his score from the other night but was still in the same category. I still wanted to catch the Tiki Birds, but Buzz was tired and hungry so we headed back to the resort. The park was starting to get pretty crowded by then (11) but I was satisfied because we managed to get a lot done. The Tiki Birds will have to be added to the list of reasons why we should plan another trip to WDW!
We only waited a few minutes for a bus and were back at the resort and eating lunch in the food court in no time. Buzz had a Quesadilla Wrap with French Fries and I had a turkey sub ($15). Then back to the room for a much needed nap. The heat and exhaustion were starting to catch up with us, which is why we relaxed a lot more our last few days. We slept for about 2 hours. I planned on heading to Blizzard Beach for the rest of the day, but when we woke up, there was a huge thunderstorm going on. Boy did it rain. I am really glad that we were back at the resort when it hit because these were torrential downpours.
We decided to still give BB a try, so we changed and headed to the bus stop when the rain had died down a bit. We left for BB around 3 and waited about 5 minutes for a bus. The driver looked at us like we were nuts when we asked if he was stopping at BB, but we were there by 3:20. The park was temporarily closed when we got there, and they werent letting anyone in through the gates. Hordes of people were exiting the park because they got tired of waiting. We waited with about 50 other people who had the same idea that we did about going to a waterpark during a storm.
They finally let us in around 4 and we quickly found a chair. There were more people than I thought left in the park, but it wasnt packed like it appeared to have been earlier. The whole park was very dirty though, because the storm had washed leaves, dirt, sand and twigs onto the pavements and into the water. We enjoyed the wave pool for awhile, then I convinced Buzz to do the family raft ride. This ride is sooooo long compared to Typhoon Lagoons and I really enjoyed it. We also did a loop in the lazy river, but had to stay in the water because it was really cool out.
We hit the wave pool one last time before we left. I like this wave pool because of the constant waves. I wish that the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon would have smaller constant waves with the big one thrown in once in a while. Anyways, we left around 5:30, and while I was changing into some shorts, the announcement came on that the park was temporarily closing again. We rushed to the bus stop before the crowds came and were on a bus in 3 minutes and headed back to the resort.
We were going to eat dinner at the food court in BB, but since it closed again, we ate at the ASMo food court. The lines were soooooo long. I guess a lot of people came back to the resort when the storms hit. Buzz had a hot dog and fries while I had chicken strips and fries. We each splurged and got desert. Buzz had shark jello, and I had vanilla pudding. We ate outside on the patio, which was nice and quiet!
Buzz and I had noticed that Disney was making a killing selling these balls on a rope to the kids at a little kiosk they had set up by the pool. Almost every kid we saw at the resort had one! Well, being big kids ourselves, we decided to get some to play with. At $9 each, they were kind of pricey but we were on vacation. You should have seen us trying to get the hang of these things. They were flying over our heads and crashing into the mirror and TV and stuff. I almost considered going and asking a little kid what the secret was, but with some practice, we finally got the hang of it. By the time we left, we could do the basic throw and catch, but not all the tricks the kids could do. I guess we will have to practice before our next trip.
We showered and changed then because we were heading to DD and Pleasure Island. We waited about 5 minutes for a bus, but it was going backwards, so we had to make stops at Music and Sports before we headed to DD. I did notice throughout the vacation that mostly families stayed at Movies and Music, while a lot of school groups were at Sports. We picked up a large group of 13-14 girls at Sports who were all dressed up for PI.
We got off at the Marketplace and did a little more shopping before heading to PI. Buzz finally found his Safari Mickey and had it sent back to the resort. At times, this perk came in handy, but on a whole we found it to be very annoying. It took forever to fill out the paper and ring up our purchases when we sent things to the room. Also, retrieving our packages at the resort was often time consuming because the store was always packed! We generally tried to make our purchases as we were leaving a park so that we could just carry it back to the room without much hassle. But tonight was one instance where it was nice not to have to carry it around.
Anyways, we got to PI around 9:30, and I noticed that the group of girls from the bus couldnt get in because they didnt realize you needed a ticket or had to pay. Got to love the LOS passes in this instance. We could have come to PI every night if we wanted to! But, again I digress. PI wasnt really hopping yet, but we checked out a few clubs. Buzz liked 8traxx, but no one was on the dance floor, so we tried Mannequins and the Beach Club (no one dancing at either). Neither of us like to dance, but we like to watch others dance so we were kind of bored. We looked in at the Adventurers Club, but it was also very empty, and Buzz didnt know what to make of it. I believe he thought that it was a single people out of the audience type of place, which is one of his greatest fears. Hence, we hightailed it out of there pretty quickly at his insistence.
I did convince him to go to the Comedy Club for the 10:40 show. We got there about ½ hour early, and just barely got in. We both thought this show was very funny, and wouldnt mind doing it again on another trip. We then headed back to the Beach Club and watched the people dance on the now bustling dance floor. We left PI around 12:45 and waited about 8 minutes for a bus. We were in bed by 1:30 and resting up for a busy day at MGM tomorrow.
