Buying wine at the Fort

Agreed, I've noticed there isn't as much of a markup in the theme parks bottle prices as compared to the resort stores, although they are obviously still higher than you would normally pay.

I actually went to the wine store in France for the first time in probably a decade last trip, I had totally forgotten about it. Which is one of the things I love about Disney, even when you go 6 times a year, I still find places all the time that I've never seen or haven't visited in forever. Ended up loving the wine store, I really liked some of the merchandise they had there (other than wine), they had a lot of "rural" type looking stuff, and some great stuff for the kitchen (amateur chef...lol). We ended up picking up a great picnic table cover, it was really nice quality, had a great design on it, and I forget the exact price but I remember we all thought it would probably be double what we paid for it.

We bought a bottle of Kendall chardonnay at the trading post. I *think* it was $18?? We made our one and only trip off of Disney property the next day for "supplies". ;)

I'll never buy booze at the trading post. I've got a 1.75 of Don Q in reserve for emergencies.

Don't they make motor oil?

that's why the wine was so expensive........ shoulda bought the quaker state wine.

Here's a good story. I kept bar for many years to help pay the bills. Anyway, I'm tending bar at this steakhouse in NJ called Charlie Browns, and it's dead during the week. This couple comes to the bar and they sit down and start drinking. The guy (this was like 2002) was just back from Iraq or Afganistan, and we were talking about war and anything else. blah blah blah. He then announces, that he wants to "get into drinking wine". Now CB's didn't have an extensive wine offering, but it was ok..... so I say to him, really, what kinds have you tried or what kinds do you like. He then proceeds to tell me that Riuniti is his favorite. It took all I could from spitting up my soda.

It was the only one without a screw top ;)

Actually, screw tops are on very good wines now. The only thing you have to do is open it earlier to let it breathe. As wineries replace corking equipment it will become much more prevalent. OK, now back to our regularly scheduled conversations.

You're a lot deeper and more sophisticated than you appear, aren't you?

Trimming vines? Never did that, but it is a Lake Erie kind of thing to do.

Here you go.............

Wine at new Disney restaurant to be served in screw-top bottles
Scott Joseph | Sentinel Staff Writer

When The Wave, a new full-service restaurant at Disney's Contemporary Resort, opens next month, it will boast an unusual wine cellar.
Besides stocking no California labels -- those wines are available upstairs at the California Grill -- the ground-floor restaurant will feature wines of the Southern Hemisphere, including vintages from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile and Argentina.
But that's not the most unusual aspect. The Wave will offer only wines that have screw caps; no wines with corks will be available. One exception will be sparkling wines, which are not yet available with screw caps.
John Blazon, master sommelier and manager of wine sales and standards for Walt Disney World Resort, said he wants "to show middle America that you can enjoy a great bottle of wine despite how it's sealed."
Blazon said he has collected 80 wines of various varietals and price points to present at the restaurant's opening, which is scheduled for June 7.
Once considered an indicator of low quality, screw caps, also known as Stelvin closures, have been gaining popularity among premium wine producers for several years as a more reliable means of sealing a bottle of wine.

Trimming and tying in the spring, picking in the fall (her vines were too close together for the pickers, so we did it by hand). She had strawberries, too, which was a summer thing - I hated them - too much bending over. Her farm was in Brant.

My wife's family has a lot of vineyards and at least one winery near Sherman, Ripley, Chautauqua and Northeast PA. When we get together all they want to do is talk sugar content and varieties and all I want to do is drink the wine.

We just drove by Welches in Westfield on Mother's Day. It's a big business.

Part of my pay was a case of whatever it was that the company made she sold to. We always hoped for a Welch's year - grape juice and jelly. What do you do with a case of Mogan David wine???? My mom probably still has some of it in her basement.

I don't know, it's probably just personal preference, but I prefer taking the cork out of a bottle of wine, it just feels more "rustic" to me.

Nothing wrong with screw tops, in fact, the wine I was talking about, "Two Princes", is a screw top and I'm sure it tastes the same as if it had a cork. I just enjoy being able to buy a wine opener every once in a while...lol.

Pretty hard to impress a girl with a screw top bottle of wine.

I prefer a box myself.
