A friend of mine is going on a cruise on the Dream, and she was wondering if it's possible to buy a DVC with Disney on the ship???? Thanks! :thumbsup2

Are the purchasing laws different if your friend is from Canada?

Not really Different....only difference is that you cannot get any reward for referring her (if that is the case)....it's against Canadian Timeshare Laws. Also if she is financing perferred rate is 11.75% and I think US residence get 10.75%.....other than that it is all good :thumbsup2

I thought that depending on where you live in Canada there were restrictions on where you can sign the contract and that Disney is not allowed to send certain mailings or even allow you to view their web casts. :confused3

Web casts are not an issue for us in Ontario...and I wouldnt imagine it is for other provinces. I get lots of mailings from DVC and Emails. I have never heard of a restriction on where you can sign a contract....We signed both of ours in Florida....

The only restriction (and it is like this in many provinces if not all) is that companies cannot solicit members with offers of Gifts, nor can they solicite members by offering gifts (incentives) to existing members for bringing new members in.....So in other words, We cannot get any $500 Disney Gift Cards!!:) Only thing we've ever gotten was some FP and Ice Cream! :thumbsup2

You also may be thinking of if it is done by mail/Courier, then we have to use a Canadian Notery to execute the documents.....but that's only if we do it by Mail/Courier.....

According to Disney, it depends on what resort they want to buy and which cruise they are on. Members can call the DVD Quality Assurance team who can explain the various laws and restrictions when executing purchase contracts.

Some of the best deals come on the Cruise Ship. So if your friend is able to buy, the Cruise may be the best place to do it.

I didn't know it was so hard to buy DVC in the North America !!

It's not....It is just as easy for a Canadian to buy as an American....at least at the presentation centre.....and I am sure the cruise is no different.....the only difference is the fact we cannot receive gifts for signing or referring......

To the OP....your friend will have no issues buying at any resort that is being offered.....:thumbsup2

I agree. From what I've experienced over the years, buying on a cruise is by far the most cost effective way to buy DVC. I always go to the DVC presentations when on board, and I was tempted to add on the last couple of times just because the incentives to do so were so darn good (even though I really wasn't in the market to that)!

Buying on board may be the most cost effective for buying direct. Depending on the situation, it might not be the most cost effective when comparing to buying resale.

Your friend should understand the pros and cons, as well as the price points, for buying resale before taking the cruise. Perhaps they already have done that and have decided to buy direct. It's their decision.

Well she's not interested in a resale!!!;)

No one can answer that question for sure, but it will be awhile. How anxious is your friend to buy? If your friend is excited for Grand Floridan she might want to wait.
