Buying Used from B&H Photo

Has anyone bought used lenses or equipment from them?

There is a lens on there that is a great price and it is what I was looking at renting for my trip in November. The price is a little more than what it would be renting the lens.

I buy used from my local camera shop. They let me put the lens on my body and inspect it before I buy. Plus they have a 14 day money back guarantee.

I would just be hesitant without seeing anything listed as less then perfect.

Ordinarily I'd be leery of buying any used camera equipment, but I've actually been to the B&H store and was impressed by them in person.

I've bought used from them several times. Bodies, lenses, you name it. Their rating scale is pretty accurate.

B&H is very reputable. And I'm pretty sure they have a decent return policy, but you should confirm.

Half my gear over the years has been purchased used -- from online stores as well as direct eBay purchases. I've never had a significant problem. (Years ago, bought a 20 year old nifty fifty for $50... And a couple years later, the aperture blades became sticky -- only time I ever had an issue).

Remember, unlike most consumer electronics, lenses are meant to last many many years. Some scratches on the body don't affect performance.

They are about an hour and a half from me, been there plenty of times and would not hesitate to buy anything used from them. Have a great reputation, I do a lot of business with them.

Thanks everyone...the lens I am looking at is rated at a 8+, so I am thinking this weekend I am going to be purchasing this lens. It is going to be my new all around lens.

I am looking at the Sigma 28-300 f/3.56.3. They also have the Tamron version also.

Right now I carry around a Sigma 55-200, Sony 70-300, and my Sony 35 f/1.8 lenes. I also carry around the kit lens sometimes. This would eliminate carrying the kit lens and possibly the 70-300 lens.

For fun, and to learn to be more creative. I have started to pick one lens for one day. And only shoot with that lens. Forces me to be creative. Then after 5 days, I have an idea what my favorites are for the rest of the week, and I will take the top 2.

50mm 1.4 nikor
24-80mm nikor
70-300mm nikor

All of these are FX.

With the price, if my tax return comes soon, then I can get it within the next couple of weeks. I have never had a problem ordering anything new from B&H, I was just curious about their used items.

I've bought used gear from them several times and I've also returned used gear to them with no problems at all getting a refund when I'd changed my mind. However, I don't plan to buy from them anymore due to the latest discrimination lawsuit that is being brought against them by the federal government. It's not the first time for them. I just can't support a business with that type of work environment.
