Hi just wondering about buying shares from ireland - I looked back on a couple of previous posts and was just wondering has anyone done it recently. I checked with my local AIB Branch and they were charging E100 per transaction. I was hoping to avoid big fees and if possible avoid yearly charges.

Hi Edengarden,

I was wondering this myself. I did ask kizzabelle (or was it kazzabelle?) a few weeks ago in another thread but never marked the box to say I wanted to be notified if there was a reply and now can't remember what the thread was called (sorry kizzabelle if you had replied)

I'd like to buy some shares here in Ireland too but any of the share threads I've read are with regard to buying shares in the UK.

Can anyone help?

It was I
if you click on my profile and stats you'll find posts by me.

Avoid AIB and there nonsense €100 charge!
Top advice is:::
Pay by CC or have an online banking account with your bank if you're using money from a bank a/c with no CC set up to it. If your a/c doesnt fascilitate online banking get it set up. Naturally having a CC is the most straightforward route.

I used fxcm as far as i can remember (used to be called odlsecurities)
Find it by clicking on small trades on sharewatch's website. You'll need some proofs of i.d/address as far as I can remember.

Set up an a/c with them and credit it with amount shares will cost plus an extra €14.95 - theyre ONCE off fee.

Using the mybroker platform buy your shares *****During the time the markets are open - so daytime***** The sharecode is EDL-F i think but its in that post ladies ^^^^

Go to the shareholders website, register and print form. Send this with fee (if applicable) and some proof of having purchased shares (will be sent to you by email by fcxm).

Reap the benefits!!!
Sorry I cant remember all the details but that link^^ gives all the details. Im currently ensconced in a whisky hangover and not really functioning. I apologise for not giving links but I just havent the capability today

hope this helps - PM me for help or if you want me to help you step by step :grouphug:

taim ag dul go dti mo leaba :)

Thanks a mill for all the help kizzabelle! And thanks pokerbanter for the link to the other thread. Sorry for not getting back sooner. Didn't get on-line much in the last few days. I will follow all your threads and instructions and hopefully get it sorted. Hopefully it's easier than it sounds on 1st read.

Will the sharewatch website tell me the current price before I buy? Does anyone know if the current price is good? I think prices went up to 9 euro-ish at one stage and then went down to 6 euro-ish.

Also Kizzabelle have you tried using your shareholder's card in the Disney Store in Dublin? I presume they take it. If they do I will earn back the price of the shares in no time!! :cool1:

Thanks DLPdaft for that. Have read up on the sharewatch site and it seems straightforward enough so might set that up tomorrow.

All this is making me wish I had a trip in the pipeline but I don't think we'll have the funds this year. :sad2:

When I've managed my way around buying the shares then I'll worry about getting the shareholders card. Last year I left all this until too late and knew I wouldn't have it sorted in time for my trip. At least now I can use my card in the Disney Store while I'm waiting for my next trip.

Thanks again to everyone for all the help

Hiya PrettyP
Ive used it twice in the Dublin Store. They were so confused by it!!
The last time the managers finger hovered over the 2 and 1 button (i.e to enter 20% or 10% discount) and i willed her to put in 20% but alas no!!

It is quite tricky to get the shares sorted but again they prompty reply to emails and are very nice and patient (im sure some of my emails were of the dumb questio variety as I was clueless!)

Hi, I am also from dublin and looking into buying shares and getting a shareholders card before our trip in Dec. Im in the process of setting up an account but when i entered my details it said:

You are applying for an Execution-Only trading account. You will only be able to trade Equities.

Can i still buy Eurodisney shares with this type of account?

My only advice is to email and ask them. It all baffles me still tbh

Thanks for all the help kizzabelle, you must be sick of us!! I e-mailed fxcm to ask what account to open and this is what they said:

Hi Paula,

Unfortunately we do not offer a one off transaction account,

However If you open up an individual account, then you will be able to fund the account, and then purchase the shares - The shares would then be held in a nominee crest account,

The Fees are as follows:

Online Trading:

€14.95 Minimum based on 0.3%

Telephone Dealing:

$40 Minimum based on 0.3%

So can I just ask anyone who has bought shares already are your shares held in one of these "nominee crest accounts"? If anyone has experience of this or knows what it is can you fill me in on anything you know? I am going to e-mail them again and see what they say.

Thanks again to everyone who is helping with this thread!!!! :worship:

Hiya Paula, thats the kind of a/c I opened. They didnt give it such a long winded name when they emailed me back tho, they must have known they needed to dumb it down for me lol!
Any more probs and i'll send my henchmen round after them for taking the mick. Feel like screaming 'i just want to buy DLP shares' yet?!

I have the same account but when i go to look up Eurodisney to buy shares it doesnt recognise the symbol. What is the Eurodisney share symbol?

Its either edl-f or ecl-f.
Think its the first one, sorry im not on my laptop right now :flower3:

Here is the next reply I got from FXCM:

If you open an account via the sharewatch website, There will be no maintenance fees, You will only be charged the commissions

Crest is where we hold the shares, Nominee means you would buy the shares, Then they would be placed into your trading account and you would receive a trade confirmation detailing your purchase/sale

As we are an online broker everything is held electronically, There is no charge for this account, As I said you will only pay commissions

Yes Kizzabel, I am definitely at the stage of screaming "I just want to buy some DLP shares!!!". I am so glad I am doing this when I've no trip already booked or I'd be panicing.

While all this has been going on I've been keeping an eye on the share prices on the link that DLP daft listed and the shares have dropped from 5.50 to 4.88. I can feel myself getting caught up in the share buying gambling bug already. Do I buy now at 4.88, that's a good price? Do I wait and see does it drop further but it could go higher? You can see how people get sucked in. I figure if I can manage to set up the account today I should just go ahead and buy and take my chances.

How did you get on funkychic? Did you find the right code for the Euro Disney shares? Have you bought yours yet.

God when this is all done I then have to start figuring out how to join the shareholders club. :scratchin I'll be glad when this is all over!!! I'm exhausted.

Hiya Pretty P,

The crest a/c is the one you want. Have the funds cleared into this a/c?
Just to put it in perspective I paid over €8 a share a few months back  I could have had a full 20 for todays price :scared1: so i would BUY BUY BUY!!

EDL-F is the correct share code. You go into the mybroker section to buy them.

Go to the shareholders website today and register - you have to print a form to post off. Then thats another thing ticked off the list.

I hear ya about losing the will to live - talk about complex!!

The end is in sight!
